Red Hat / Fedora :: Installing LOCAL APPS On LTSP 4.2?
Jan 7, 2011
We have a combination of Red Hat Enterprise AS 3.0 and LTSP 4.2. There are 100+ users connected to a single server through Thin Client due to which the server is overloaded and degrades the performance. So I want to know how to install LOCAL APPS on LTSP 4.2 so that I can reduce the load on server.
I just installed Fedora 12 86_64, and Wine won't run any software that I attempt to install. It just says opening file, and after a few seconds disappears. The same software that I was running in Wine f10 is not running in 12.
When I run the command << kiwi-ltsp-setup -n >> the process gets to the point where it starts "Retrieving repository 'http:__download.opensuse.org_update_11.3' metadata" What do I change so that it will read from my local update repository. The local update repository is already listed in my yast repositories while the ttp:__download.opensuse.org_update_11.3 is not.
I want to install Ubuntu LTSP on top of an already existing system. However, I want to use a different DHCP and TFTP server. Do I simply just install 'ltsp-server-standalone' with apt and run 'sudo ltsp-build-client', stop the DHCP and TFTP server and stop them from starting automatically? Would I then just copy over the pxelinux.cfg/default file from /var/lib/tftpboot along with the initrd.img and vmlinuz images to the TFTP server?
Edit: Do I need to actually copy the whole /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp directory over to the TFTP server?
Background: I need some help regarding install X server/apps on a headless(ie. no monitor, no graphic device) server. The server is in fact a virtual one by Amazon EC2. So there's no monitor nor any graphics hardware. Fedora server (6, i believe) is pre-packaged. The problem is that I want to be running a server app with a GUI. The app won't start without the GUI (and I probably need to tweak a few things through its GUI too).
I plan on setting up very very bare minimal X on the server and then uses NX for remote access. Can somebody shed some light here?
Simply put, my questions are:
1) What would be the minimal list of package i need to install? 2) Where can I find docs about installing and setting up NX? I could only find very fragmented/outdated docs about it.
When I try to install Cinelerra I get this error: Local file conflict between packages Two packages provide the same file. This is usually due to mixing packages from different software sources.
Test Transaction Errors: file /usr/bin/mpeg3cat from install of cinelerra-2.1-20_git20091116.fc13.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libmpeg3-utils-1.8-3.fc12.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mpeg3dump from install of cinelerra-2.1-20_git20091116.fc13.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libmpeg3-utils-1.8-3.fc12.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mpeg3toc from install of cinelerra-2.1-20_git20091116.fc13.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libmpeg3-utils-1.8-3.fc12.x86_64
Currently have a problem with my LTSP server when using a gigabit switch with a megabit thin client.I am using K12LTSP with Fedora 9.The thin clients get most of the way through booting up then I get error messages saying:nfs: server 172.31.6.1 not responding, still trying.I don't get this problem if I use a 100 meg switch though.I have found several forum posts on the internet which all seem to point to the following webpage with a solution:However, when I make the recommended changes It doesnt make a difference.Below is an example of the default file located at /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg with its default settings:
I have FC10! so far i have downloaded the mplayer and its codecs.further i extracted both the packages( in DOWNLOAD folder).but I'm not able to extract the codecs in the /usr/local/lib/codecs directory.it says you do not have permission. how should i know whether to compile the mplayer or is it pre-compiled?
I've found lots of posts about reinstalling applications when they're already installed but I'd like to install Mediawiki v1.14, instead of the current v1.15, in order to replicate an older Windows implementation of Mediawiki. I've installed Ubuntu desktop 10.04 and Synaptic offers me only v1.15 of Mediawiki. So can I use Synatpic or the Ubuntu Software Center to obtain this slightly old version 1.14 of Mediawiki? If I use Synaptic to obtain v1.14, will it also provide the additional packages (Apache, PHP, MySql etc.,) in the same way that it would for v1.15?
Just installed Ununtu 11.04 (on a dual boot system) and can't seem to install a thing. I opened terminal and when I try to install a package it says it can't be located. Also, Firefox seems to be behaving a little oddly as it won't let me visit certain links via google. Strange indeed?
when i want run "ltsp-build-client" command i get this error: ERROR: fc14 is unsupported i want know there is any plan for ltsp 5.2 support in fedora 14 and how i can solve this problem for use ltsp in fedora 14.
Whenever i'm trying to install apps via one click install or any other way, it later demands i insert the OpenSuse 11.4 CD into the drive, otherwise it won't install.
I just installed openSUSE 64 bit and have it up and running. Great looking OS. I have four questions, not sure if I should post four threads, or ask all in here. I'm familiar with the Gnome GUI, but this is my first experience with KDE. Want to learn something new.
one: I installed the benchmark bonnie, and now can not find it. I've looked in just about every folder and can't seem to locate it.
two: I looked for the benchmark Hardinfo to install and the installer was unable to locate it. How do I find it, it is not in the package manager.
three: I install the bubble monitor desktop applet and can't figure out how to bring it up, the setting menu is in the upper right on the desktop. How do you turn on the display?
forth: Where do you set your signature in this forum? I went through the setting and couldn't find it.
This is the forth Linux OS I've installed and this was the cleanest and smoothest install yet, Debian could take some lessons at least on the install app, 5 out out 5 stars on the install package. So far I've been able to configure everything the way I want with the exceptions above. Below is my system info just in case that matters. openSUSE 64bit KDE,LMDE 64bit Gnome,Squeeze64bit Gnome - HP Compaq dc5700 MT desktop w/ Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 2.13GHz, 3.6GB DDR2 SDRAM, Intel 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller
I'm somewhat knew to Linux (CentOS), so WINE is completely foreign to me also. I'm immediately interested in TaxAct, which is how I learned about WINE. My question is whether my system will maintain the same stability that Linux is known for, and whether my CentOS build will keep it's current RHEL integrity after I install WINE, and probably other Windows Apps. Your experience with WINE is coveted.
I acquired an old ML370 Proliant server, and I'm attempting to find a way to control the fan speed, as all three noisy fans are running at full blast, and I had planned to keep this thing in the office, because it has no wireless capability or support.
I know the following:HP has a suite of programs that are variously called Insight Control Manager, Server Health driver, HP-health, hpasm, and a few more I can't remember. Obviously these are different iterations of the same program, but I have been unable to determine which one I need, and I've been completely unable to find a way to install any of them or find the repository that contains them.
The website: Download Drivers and SoftwareIt lists a lot of different Enterprise-class Server OSes, but nothing about Ubuntu or any home server OSes. I've only been at this for a week, so I don't know which of these would work with Ubuntu Server, or how to make them work if their aptitude file extension is not .deb. I'm currently running Server version 10.10, as 11.04 gave me monitor troubles.
Is it possible to install a local .deb package with synaptic package manager? I managed to trash network-manager-gnome removing it by mistake instead of a package with a similar name..... oops. So now have no network connections. I downloaded the following file network-manager-gnome_0.8~a~git.20091014t134532.4033e62-0ubuntu1_i386.deb via a computer with a net connection. and now have it on a usb key. Can I point the synaptic package manager to the local package and install like that, or do I have to do it via the console. I also have my original Karmic 9.10 disk, which I imagine has the package on as well. Is there a way to add it via the system installer?
I have created a local repository to install linux with. (class assignment) Created the following file structure off of /html directory;
/yum/base/13/i386 /yum/updates/13/i386
copied the contents of the packages from my fedora dvd;
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt cd /mnt/Packages cp -v * /var/www/html/yum/base/13/i386 cd / umount /mnt
using rsync against fedora mirror updated the base to have compete set of .rpm packages from the Everything directory. Ran createrepo /var/www/html/yum/base/13/i386 Verified repodata folder was created and the contents are correct, shown below
[Code]....
Boot the PC and start the install using a kickstart file (if you need to see it let me know), all runs fine until it gets to the point of resolving dependency then it errors out - unable to resolve dependency against the repository. May not be the exact phrasing but generally speaking to that effect.
Is it possible to partition a hard drive with Debian already installed and put a live disc image in the second one and use grub to boot it. Then using this boot to the installer and install to the first partition. The answer for why I want to try this is that I have a computer that runs a robot that needs Debian. There is no CD, USB, or internet currently on the drive. there is an Ethernet plug, but It won't work until the OS is in place. We tried taking the hard drive and installing Debian to it from a USB stick on another computer, but it has the wrong Ethernet drivers and we can't get it to talk to the internet on the robot's computer.
Everything else is fine, but with out an internet connection the robot will not work.If your interested the board is an old Versalogic VSBC-8 and the robot is a Pioneer 1 from Mobile robotics. The hard drive (not that it matters) is a standard 80GB IDE notebook drive from Western Digital.
I was under the impression that if I have any programs not installed by the package manager, they belong in /usr/local rather than /usr. But if I put the executable in /usr/local/bin, and the jar files into /usr/ local /lib, I get runtime errors about being unable to load the Java classes. So I resorted to putting things in /usr/bin and /usr/lib and it worked fine.Is this something that can only be corrected by compiling differently, or am I missing an installation step?
I have been given a task to install samba server from my local PC in an another PC which is a linux server. The linux server is in my own company and I have been given its ip address and root login password. I don't know how to install that samba server from my own PC.
I wish to use the new Eclipse Galileo, and so far it works fine... out of my home directory.I would like to install this system-wide, so that all my users can use it just the same.I assume the destination would be /usr/local/bin, but when I put the directory there and link the executable as /usr/local/bin/eclipse (linking to /usr/local/bin/eclipse_bin/eclipse), I get shared library errors. This was a failed attempt at a hack, so I would like to know: where can I put the files so as to properly do this installation?
I am trying to install ubuntu from an ISO on a FAAT32 Partition. Is there a way of booting into the FAT32 partition with the ISO on it, and mount it to install from, from the Debian installer ?I have been searching for over a month now and still have not found anything that gives some information on how to do that. I remember that i was able to make a rescue disk for Fedora 5 and use the installer from it and select the partition and then the iso i wanted to use.
I have fedora 11 as a host and two guest os rhel5 on VirtualBox. I wan to install a local repository on fedora 11 so that my guest os rhel5 can install packages through http with yum.To do this what I have done so far:
>Install httpd >chkconfig httpd on >service httpd start >createrepo -v /var/www/html/rhel5/ >create file rhel5.repo in guest os /etc/yum.repos.d/
fact is same process i have followed when i had rhel5 as a host os and i found no problem. Is there any problem with fedora 11 createrepo command that does not allow rhel5 to install package over http.
Some minimized apps no longer appear in the top menu and by that are no longer accessible. For example firefox with the minimize addon or Jungel Disk backup service. How can I reach apps that minimized them self and are not shown in the top menu?
I'm using f12. My university has recently become a mirror for fedora packages. But i'm facing a trivial problem. I have set proxy for yum so that the packages that are not available on local mirror can be downloaded from other mirrors. But then i don't know how to set no proxy for my local server. Consequently it is not using my local mirror at all. Tell me how to set no proxy for the local mirror. I want my local mirror because it's damn fast. My proxy settings are like this (they go in /etc/yum.conf):
I'm running Fedora 14 KDE. I've configured my HP LaserJet 2300 printer in System Settings, and can print the test page fine, but when I try to print from an application such as Firefox, the application seems to think it's printing, but it doesn't actually print. I see no dialog box telling me that a job was created. There are no new jobs in the printer applet. Where are my print jobs going? I'm not really even sure where to look. I don't see anything printer related in /var/log/messages.
Well, looks like I got it fixed. Not sure exactly why, but restarting CUPS seems to have resolved it. We'll see if it stays working, but for now, I can print...
I am a complete Linux beginner, and have just installed F15 with Gnome for my desktop.
How do I get applications that may be installed but are not on the desktop, onto the desktop with an icon? I want to run iPython now, and soon I will want to run an Office suite...
I have this weird problem. some of the apps like gnome-system-monitor, gnome-power-preferences, nm-applet(when clicked on edit connections) keep crashing.
the moment I log in into my gnome desktop, all the apps work fine for a minute. the problem starts after a while say 5 mins... I will not be able to run any of these apps. I always get the crash window.
Iam using fedora 11 on a toshiba satellite m200. this problem has been there for a long time now. initially I thought that software updates will make it ok. but even after several updates, the apps keep crashing.
is there a way to fix this?. everytime I need to access them, I need to logout and login and then acces them quickly before they start to crash. this is quite time consuming and irritating.
I work in a school and we plan to upgrade acquire 50 computers for the Laboratories. Can someone led me the way to setup diskless windows xp using ltsp or any alternative?
