Programming :: Unable To Access Filehandles (Perl)

May 17, 2010

I've been reading / trying to learn some Perl lately. I've found the free book, "Learning Perl", quite good and easy to follow most of the times. However, today I was testing one of the scripts in the book and it would only run partly.

Code:

#!/usr/bin/perl
use warnings;
use strict;
my %inventory;

[code]....

This row is supposed to give option, either to use an additional script as pipe (sort.plx),or STDOUT if the extra script is not found.It works with the other script present, however, with the sort.plx being absent it simply wont use STDOUT instead but whines to me:

Can't open perl script "sort.plx": No such file or directory

Has the author of the original script done some error writing it? Since I'm a beginner and found most of the stuff confusing in Perl either way (having previously only experience in Bash and some in PHP) - I can't really tell for sure , but from what I can read in documentation - it doesn't appear to be wrong.As it looks now, the only way for me to use STDOUT is only by removing:

open (SORT, "| perl sort.plx") or *SORT = *STDOUT;
select *SORT;

rows. But then, I lose the piping in to that other script as an option.

Programming :: Access A Perl Script Behind A Firewall From Python?

Nov 23, 2010

I have a Perl script behind a firewall. I want to access this script from Python on Google App Engine. I have access to the server running the Perl script via the following methods: SSH VPN What are the ways I can do this with Python on GAE? Can I use something like wget, login through ssh and run the script using perl interpreter?

Currently it is a CGI script that I can access through a web browser if I'm inside the firewall. My only other option is to turn the process around, i.e. have perl send data outside the firewall to google app engine. But I want to know if this is possible as it is now without changing the perl script.

Programming :: Perl - Store And Access An Array In A Hash Of Hashes?

Jul 7, 2010

I am in need of some syntax help. I'm trying to figure out how to store and retrieve an array out of a hash of hashes. For this example, I'm trying to access the city list for a particular state for a particular country. I understand I could do a join and split on the hash key to combine Country and State, but trying to keep things separated.The code I have gets in all the information for the Countries, and states, and gets the list of cities together, no problem. I store all the city names in an array, then make an anonymous pointer to the array for the hash, like this - $MY_CITIES{$COUNTRY}{$STATE} = [@CITIES]I believe that syntax is correct, or is it? What I'd like to do is I need to cycle through every hash to find if a city exists or not. If it exists in 3 states, then it should print 3 times. Here is the code block to search -

Code:
for $COUNTRY (@LIST_OF_COUNTRIES) {
for $STATE ( keys %MY_CITIES{$COUNTRY){$STATE} ) {

[code]...

Programming :: Unable To Match Across Multiple Lines In Perl

May 11, 2011

I'm trying to split a text file into various parts. Everything in between "123" and "break" (including linebreaks) goes into the splitted file.

e.g. using this text file:

This should split into 4 files. However I'm only getting 2 files: one for the line "123break" and one for "123 blah break". The two occurrences that contain linebreaks are being ignored. The .* part of my match should capture linebreaks seeing that I'm using the /s modifier shouldn't it? Even when I use the match /(123 break)/gs it still doesn't capture the first occurrence. I'm using Perl v5.12.3 (from ActiveState) on Windows XP. The text file is also in Windows format.

Code listed below.

The above code generates two files Output_1.txt and Output_2.txt which contain "123break" and "123 blah break" respectively. I want it to generate four files.

General :: Make All Filehandles On That Filesystem Invalid?

Aug 12, 2010

How to unmount a filesystem in Linux without investigating why is it busy? I want to do it in one command. It should handle applications using that filesystem, submounts, containers (lxc-execute -n qqq <command>) and all other things.

Just "unmount. No objections!". Special kernel patches or configuration is allowed. Filesystem should be really unmounted, so umount -l is certainly not an option. For example, for cryptsetup remove (BTW how to forcibly cryptsetup remove? Update: cryptsetup luksSuspend, but you won't be able to cryptsetup luksResume if it is not LUKS). How to make all filehandles on that filesystem invalid?

The only reliable way I know is mounting the filesystem through the FUSE (there is usually no problem to unmount FUSE thing because of I can just kill it's process). P.S. Already know mount fuser, lsof | grep, cat /proc/*/mounts | grep and obsolete non-working "badfs patch".

Programming :: Unable To Access Java Package

Feb 16, 2011

i am a complete newbie in java. while dealing with packages i faced the following problem. I created a file named "CreatePackage"

Code:

package lobkush;
public class CreatePackage {
public CreatePackage() {
System.out.println("you are presently under package named "lobkush" ");
}
}

after this i created a folder named "lobkush".I also compiled the source file and placed the .class file in the corresponding directory.

Now to test it i created another java file. This is where the problem arises.while importing the class file if I write:

Code:

import lobkush.*;
the compiler shows an error

but if I write

Code:

import lobkush.CreatePackage;

no error is shown and the .class file generated.

Programming :: MP3 - Tag And Perl Script

Mar 27, 2011

I am a newbie on linux and just searching everything about perl scripting and modules nearly 3-4 days. I need a perl script but one of not easy to find on searching google. Okay now I need a perl script which create or recreate (edit) id3 tags (artist, comment, album, year, cover) of mp3 files stored on my linux centos server. I installed MP3::Tag version 1.13 pearl module to my server. I Searched tutorials about how to use it, finally I get through reading id3 tag of mp3 file but not achieve to modify it or create a new id3tag.

These are the details:
I have a mp3 file called 1.mp3 this script will process that '1.mp3' file read its id3tag if there is one, than modify or create id3tag for it by my fix artist name for example:
'1.mp3' files id3 tag details are like this
Artist: Dj xx
Year:2010
Title:yyyyy
Comment:eerwer
Cover: x.jpg

Now via this perl script which uses MP3::TAG I will change it's
artist as YYY
Title:ttt
Comment:cool
Cover:t.jpg
these are gonna be my fixed values. I mean all '1.mp3' file will have same artist based on script value.

The reason of this script is I will share Dj podcasts on my server and Dj's would have upload their mp3's which has got different id3 tags and cover pics. etc. I want to create more organized podcasts of them by the way I would trigger this perl script via Cronjob.

Programming :: Interacting With A Website Using Perl And LWP?

I'm trying to write a Perl script that will go out to a website, log in, pull up a query page, fill-in and submit the query, extract a few specific lines from the query results, and finally place that output into a file. I'm having difficulty with the log in portion. It appears that rather than using the built-in Apache authentication, the developer decided to write their own authentication scheme that uses cookies.

I setup a cookie jar but I'm not certain I'm actually getting and keeping the cookie. When I try to go to a page after the log in page I get an error saying I'm not logged in or my session has expired. Here's the code as I have it thus far.

Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl
