How to map special keys in vim, e.g. ctrl+< , ctrl+> , shift+< . I want to resize the windows in vim, ctrl+w+< is complex, I want map it to double press ctrl+< , how can I achieve it ?

As I have seen in kde, they are recognized already, very good.
But I would like to use the play-pause, ffd, rwd and stop button in a special way.
After pressing one of them , a programm or script is called, which does:
a) determine the entries ( in a list ) of assigned applications to be controlles by this mm-buttons. ( The list can be edited, I decide to add vlc, amarok, flash plugin for firefox )
b) determine, which of the applications are running actually.
c) determine, which of this applications has the focus ( means, which of them ( if all more running ) is "the active one".
d) issue its shell command, which corresponds to the keyhit ( play, pause, fwd, rwd, stop )
Now my question : Is it all possible via shell/and or x-script?
If not, i will have to code something, i suppose.
i am using gcc 4.3i need to recognize ctrl+c,ctrl+l,ctrl+d in my C program without terminating the program when i get a ctrl+c...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Arch Linux with KDE 4.5. I have a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0
At the top of the keyboard are 5 extra buttons numbered 1 to 5. These are in addition to the function keys.
I ran xev to determine the keycodes generated by these buttons and nothing results. The keys do nothing in xev. How can I enable these keys to use for desktop switching?
I'm installing Slackware 13.1 on a Samsung N150 netbook and am stuck trying to make the special keys do their normal functions when using a virtual terminal, that is not under X. Under X + Xfce it can be done via Menu->Settings->Keyboard->"Application Shortcuts".
In essence the question is how to make a special key (example Fn+Up to increase screen brightness) run a command in the background.
Changed title and text to make clear that the command should not run in a virtual terminal but while the display is being used for a virtual terminal, that is after Ctrl+Alt+F2 for example.
I've been making some progress with my new Dell Inspiron n5110 and the OpenSUSE 11.4. After searching through the net I found some drivers to get my laptop going. Now I'm facing the following problem: I want to adjust the audio volume using a special key combination on my laptop(fn+F11 to rise, fn+F12 to lower, and another key that works as mute). Although the sound itself works fine, when I use these keys the have no effect on the volume. It stays exactly the same. Some I ask myself are the drivers for the sound card installed? In "Playback Devices" there are two devices: Internal audio analog stereo(which is the one that is working) and GF108 High Definition Audio Controller Digital Stereo(HDMI). The lsusb provides:

So I searched for some Realtek drivers and came up with nothing. If you have any idea on how to get my audio running or how to make the special keys working, please let me know!
I am using windows XP as my host machine and vmware workstation 6 to install and run RHEL 5. I have set the inittab to runlevel 5. While i am in gnome, i tried pressing
Ctrl-Alt-F3 and nothing happens. I searched the net and found that i should do this
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-F3. It worked and kinda throwed me to shell mode. When i issued runlevel command it showed me
N 5
Now when i tried to go back to gnome by pressing
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-F5 it didnt work !! i tried all other combinations
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-(F1-F5) but no response.
I*am using Kubuntu 10.04. I would like to change some of the standard shortcut keys for bash (terminal).
I want:
Ctrl-C to copy the selected text to the clipboard.
Ctrl-V to paste from the clipboard into the terminal.
Ctrl-Z to undo.
Ctrl-Shift-C (or even better, Super-C) to terminate the command.
Ctrl-Shift-Z (or Super-Z) to be the background command.
I*don't even know what Ctrl-V did before, some I*won't worry about remapping it.
EDIT:*I*have no idea what is putting the * char after each "I". Maybe this is a non-breaking space?
NOTE: compizconfig manager is not suitable for ubuntu 11.04 with unity,works fine with 9.10 and 10.10.
Ubuntu enables "Desktop Wall" by default. By holding Ctrl-Alt keys and pressing the left-arrow or right-arrow key each time, it slides through desktop workspaces horizontally for you to choose one to work on. Alternatively, you can change this to a "rotate cube" effect. Go To System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager.
Select "Desktop" from the left panel.
Tick "Rotate Cube".
Select "Enable Desktop Cube" as this plugin is required by "Rotate Cube".
Select "Disable Desktop Wall".
Immediately you can rotate your desktop workspaces in this way holding down Ctrl-Alt keys, EITHER press the left-arrow or right-arrow key OR left-click the mouse and drag it to left or right.

So Ive had this issue off and on for a while now, but have never really looked to see if others have had it or how I can fix it. Essentially the problem is that kde seems to randomly decide that I am holding down the shift or ctrl key.Im using a logitech cordless desktop s510, running openSUSE 11.3 x86_64. Ive had this problem on and off using a couple of different logitech keyboards. The most often time when it happens with the shift key is when im coding, and the control key when Im running a keyboard shortcut.
I can usually fix the issue by holding down the key that kde thinks is pressed for like 5-10 seconds and releasing, however sometimes I have to unplug and then replug in the usb adapter for kde to get things right. This doesnt happen if im running a non-graphical terminal (thouhg I cant say whether it happens in gnome as I dont have gnome installed) so I am thinking its related to kde. The keyboard can be plugged into other computers and they dont act the same way.
This gets esspecially annoying when Im coding (because of all the symbols) and generally when the issue occurs. I think it may have something to do with the key being pressed for over a certain length.
I'm running Kubuntu 10.10, with KDE 4.5.2, what I've noticed is every so often my Tab, Caps, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Super keys stop working. I'd been running Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and hadn't ever come across this issue. I'm not sure if this is related to KDE 4.5.2 or is possibly because I updated to 10.10 and would also occur on a Gnome environment.If I switch to my virtual machine (VMWare Workstation 7.1.2 build-301548 which I was able to get working on 10.10 using URL.... the keys work within that but if I switch back to my host desktop they stop working.To fix it I've found logging out or unplugging the keyboard and plugging it into a different USB port fixes it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 layouts: USA, Russian and Hebrew. In Hebrew the W key is mapped to apostrophe, so Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout doesn't close tabs in Firefox. There is no workaround for it as I see by now, so I am trying to get it work this way:I want to map Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout(which is actually a Ctrl+') to be a Ctrl+w. I looked in the keyboard short cut and it was not there. i tried to add it and it put it in custom as disabled and I could not enable it.
anyone has a clue why 'ctrl+a, k' nor 'ctrl+a, :kill' doesn't work for killing one of screen windows? Other screen's commands invoked with 'ctrl+a'seem to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and already am really annoyed by Firefox, which freezes my mouse after changing a tab (with ctrl+tab, alt+#) or closing it (ctrl+w). After about one second, i can continue working as usual. Changing Tabs by just clicking on one does not freeze anything...Maybe some of you would think now if I am crazy because of complaining about such a little thing, but it is really annoying if you are used to work fluently with ff.Edit:I today noticed, that not only shortcuts in firefox, but all Hotkeys freeze my mouse for a second. I just spent a few days ripping out all the broken/buggy apps that are in the opensuse 11.2 official repos so I can finally get working software(openoffice, thunderbird, wine, eclipse, rubygems, rails, and a few others required getting the "official" versions from their respective websites to avoid strange behavior and outright broken functionality).
All of which makes updating more annoying and time-consuming. Why are opensuse packages so different anyway? Anyway, the last thing that I have noticed to fix is Konsole. For some really bizarre reason ctrl+z and ctrl+c do not work without a third keystroke: enter.Maybe this is something new with the KDE team, since they seem bent on making simple things that already work more complex, but given my experience with crappy packages in the suse repos, I am thinking this is the problem. I have looked over all the config settings that I can find and nothing fixes this affront to productivity.
I've been using Kaggregator in KDE-PIM, which uses Konqueror as the browserto go to links from Kaggregator.Unfortunately, Konqueror no longer seems tobe able to Copy highlighted material with Ctrl C, the way we've done it forever.Is this a setting I've missed? The example always given is:

I have to enhance the behaviour of a backup script written in perl. I don't need to change it, what I need to do is to create a bash script that does some checks like file name and file size, execute the backup script then check if the backup files match the original files.Here's how I try to do it:
- read the files from the original files folder
- store them in an array
- search in the array the files that have a specific file extension
- store the file names that match the search pattern (I know the backup script skips some files so I can hardcode the search pattern)
- run the backup script
- read the files from the backup folder
- store them in an array
- compare the original files name and size stored in an array with those from the backup folder
- send a report email
I would like in depth knowledge of how these keys work. If I were to want to use these keys for my own application how would I program them?
