Programming :: Create/delete Temp/backup Files Through A Shell Script?
Dec 31, 2008
I have a shell script that need to create some files:
1) backup files of user passed in file ( that will be written by this shell ).
2) temp files that the shell will create and later delete/remove.
This shell script will be used from my local dir ( I am not a super or a sysadmin ). Users of this shell will call this script to run on their local files in their respective directories. When my script runs, it errors with the following:
I would like to develop a shell script that would automatically run a backup program and then shutdown the computers, but I do not know the first thing about script development or even writing scripting.
we have 2 linux desktop m/c as server and we use amc n windows as clients....we get more temp files like .AppleDoueble, ":2edstore".i need to remove these temp files periodically with the script. how to write a script to remove these temp files.....
I am facing a problem in Windows due to a virus called Newfolder.exe which creats files with the same name as it's parent directory and an extension .exe and this happens for every directory in the entire hierarchy in the infected pen drive. The antivirus detects them, but is sucking slow. So I thought this is a good opportunity to use the concepts of the all mighty shell script to remove those as they follow the same pattern. Say my complete path is
The virus would have created an file with complete paths
If fol1 has two more directories fol11 and fol12 Then there would be two more .exe(virus created) in the following path
I have 2 external hdd in wich I have all my files. yesterday, I have copied all the files from hdd2 to hdd1 and I want to eliminate duplicates so I used FSLint to find them, now I want to make a shell script to delete all the files/entries (read from the log file) that begin with.
I have a PHP script running on my website that can generate temporary images, but if I clean them up right away, then the browser doesn't have time to render them.Is there some way to make Apache2 delete them after 5 minutes or so?

Code: /media/My Book/!!!MIS DOCUMENTOS/Documentos/2 sep2003-jun2009 USB/!TESIS/TESIS/TESIS CVT LABVIEW Y CODEWARRIOR/LabVIEW85RuntimeEngineFull.exe /media/My Book/HDD_Toshiba/Borrable/Pen_Drive_4GB/Tesis/Super CD de la tesis/LabView/LabVIEW85RuntimeEngineFull.exe multiplied by millions of entries...
now I want to make a shell script to delete all the files/entries (read from the log file) that begin with:

I would like to create a bash menu script for my home server For instance if i were to type ./script It would then bring up 3 options

I have a problem need help, I want to do a schedule with using shell script with crontab in linux SuSE SLES 10.
1. I have many server that want to do backup mysql all from that server everyday. I need advice for for write shell script to backup all mysql in different server to server backup everyday and create auto folder as date example 27102009, 28102009..........for a month will has 30 folder in server backup.

I have an NTFS file system nfs-automounted on our RedHat servers. Users can read and write to the file system no problem, and can create new files, edit them, and delete them to their heart's content. The only issue is that utilities such as "dos2unix" cannot create temporary working files:
$ dos2unix events.0818.dat dos2unix: converting file events.0818.dat to UNIX format ... Failed to open output temp file: Operation not permitted dos2unix: problems converting file events.0818.dat
This isn't limited to "dos2unix"; any other utility that creates a temporary working file gets the same problem. If I copy the file to a local file system like /tmp, it works fine. Here's the kicker: this works fine on Solaris systems. I can take the "dos2unix" utility over to a Solaris system that has that exact same NTFS file system automounted via NFS, and it works. No issues creating temporary working files at all.
I am trying to create a shell script similar to ls, but which only lists directories. I have the first half working (no argument version), but trying to make it accept an argument, I am failing. My logic is sound I think, but I'm missing something on the syntax.
Code: if [ $# -eq 0 ] ; then d=`pwd` for i in * ; do if test -d $d/$i ; then echo "$i:" code....
the permissions for my home directory were accidentally changed from 'access files' to 'create and delete files', and I changed them back, but ever since then I am not able to change any preferences/settings at all. power management, themes, panels, emerald, anything. my user account is supposed to be the administrator, and all the user privliges are checked. how to get control of my computer back?
I've discovered that after restoring my site's backup this has happened to me again. How to delete the hacked /home/crocbits directory so that I can restore the backup under the same username. When I try to delete /home/crocbits I get this message when logged in as root:
I have requirement on shell scriptingre scripts for the following: 1) Full backup(application and DB): tar all the files and database and copy them in the backup server 2) Incremental back up of files: backup of all the updated filester the last backup. 3) Restoring of backup files: restore the backup files from the backup server to the application server.
I have an archive directory that needs to be cleaned up once per quarter. The top level (/data/archive/*) directory names change daily, as well as the subdirectories and the filenames (the application names everything according to date). Also, there are two top level directories, bin and incoming, that we can't touch. I want to write a shell script that loops through the 15 or 20 top level directories and deletes all files and subdirectories older than 3 days (skipping the bin and incoming folders). Can someone get me started on a script? I am kinda new to shell scripting.
I take responsibility for data backup my centos server. Please help me backup data using tar. following scenario:- Sunday - full backup- the rest of differential backup. We're back up to full as follows:tar-cvzf / backup / backup-date.tar.gz / data
i'm confronting atm. I need to create a folder where ppl can copy files and i need to be sure that those files cannot be deleted after they are copied there. The folder will be accessed over network, and i need to be sure no one will delete somebody else's files. Also i need to tell you that i'm working with regular users, so creating a folder for each user and chown/chmod-ing it won't do the trick(allready tried and ended up with a whole lot of files in the parent directory).I also tried chattr +a but that doesn't allow them to write new files in the folder.
I am trying to create a shell script, on taking a input file as parameter, which need to do 3 things
1) create a copy of existing file.
2) add a new line to the copied file.
3) strip off all the absolute paths inside the copied file
The first 2 points are straight forward. but i am finding it difficult to acheive the 3rd point. myself not very good with awk and sed. but gave it a shot in vain. For example, the input script consists of below,
