Programming :: C/c++ Getting Serials \ Used An Execl Call To Dmidecode And Parsed It Using Sed To Get Serial Numbers?

I used an execl call to dmidecode and parsed it using sed to get serial numbersso a business friend could make a (mostly) unique serial when his cross platform software is installed on different machines.I know this is falling outside the spirit of Linux being a profit thing, but the request has been to now do the same thing without using Linux commands. Which sounds like a chore since I would be re-inventing something that already exist namely dmidecode. Is the source available for dmidecode?I have no idea where to start to look for the info like dmidecode provides.

I can get the serials of HDD & RAM using hdparm & dmidecode,but don't know how to get it for processor & Graphics card.

I'm trying to write a program that will fork a series of FTP sessions. For each session, there should be separate input and output files associated with stdin and stdout/stderr.
I keep reading how I should be able to do that with dup2() in the child process before the execl(), but it's not working for me. Could someone please explain what I've done wrong? The program also has a 30-second sniper alarm for testing and killing of FTPs that go dormant for too long.

Why am I getting the ftp> prompt? If the dup2() works, shouldn't it be taking input from my script and not my terminal? In stead, it does nothing, and winds up getting killed after 30 seconds. The log file is created, but it's empty after the run.

am writing a small search program for my class. I have decided to use indexing for my program. Ive researched online about indexing and how search engines do it. If im gonno do that I need to create inverted files to associate files to numbers ( numbers being the index of my paths ) . Now I was wondering what would be the best way to create an inverted file ? I was going to create sql tables using mysql api in C but then again there is no array data type or vectors to store few numbers in a single column in mysql and it is not advised to use Enum or SET

I'm using Ubuntu, and I'm programing with eclipse CDT. My goal is to execute a php file and read the output to my c++ program. To do so I thought I should use fork(), dup2() and execl. When in shell, the call "php myscript.php" worked just fine, but when in c++ I tried
execl("usr/bin/php", "php", "home/geiger/workspace/SemiServer/server_content/myscript.php", NULL); and it didn't work (the process wasn't terminated and I got no output). I tried different version of this call, like losing the "php" string and/or drop "home/geiger" from the path string, to no better result.

I am trying to extract 2 numbers from a same file and my goal is to print them both in another file, on the same line, separated with a space. I have to do that for 20 files and I would like to have therefore 20 lines like this in the output file. It would look like this :

I want the get the date of the oldest log in this directory and compare it with current date.Time of the each log can be seen before ".Z" prefix.I have written the following piece of code. However, it is not working for the following case:

TODAY= 20101201
Difference is 72, which is not correct, since these are dates.

I am struggling to understand why nawk matches values that are either 1 or 2 digits in length, but not 100 (3 digits).
Am I missing something obvious ? Should I use substr to remove the % ?
I am sure it's something to do with character and string matching behaviour with nawk.

I have a program that sends QByteArray datagrams over a udp socket. I would like to have 4 bytes of the datagram that contain a 32 bit integer. When saving numbers to the QByteArray, I have tried the static function number(int) and member function setNum(int), but they convert the integer to its decimal string representation and save that in the byte array. So if the number were 10, it takes 2 bytes, if it were 10,000,000 it takes 8 bytes. This wastes space, and makes it more difficult to get the number when it is packed with a few other pieces of data in the same datagram. Is there a standard way of doing this in Qt?

I'm playing around with some shell scripting and I've got a directory call CS005 and I'm trying to write a script to I can locate to the directory really quick and easy.

Now I get this error
CS005DIR=/home/stud/0/043234/CS005 No such file or directory.
This is because I've got numerical values within my variable.
Is there a way to allow numbers for variable names?

Can sed remove non-numerics (apart from an optional leading +) from phone numbers when prefixed with text that must be retained? The need is to make phone numbers exported from an Orage address book to a .ldif file suitable for gnokii to send to a mobile phone. Here are sample lines:

I have been working on writing a small rs232 driver like minicom for months. I am almost there, I have the interrupt service routine running, I can read() ok. However when I write(), it returns the number of characters written, 1, but nothing is actually written out the port. I researched termios, and they say that serial port programming is really messy in linux/unix.
I am probably not setting up the port parameters correctly, or my write() function is not doing what it is supposed to. As I said, write() is returning successful. Other comm programs run ok (picocom & gtkterm) on my hardware. I am running knoppix/debian on an ancient computer. I saw other guys using slackware.
