I am involved in a project where some regression tests are to be automated. Could you please tell me what are the testing tools that are available for doing automated GUI testing in Linux?

General :: Automated Telnet For Testing Servers

Aug 20, 2009

So I have a script that is supposed to check to see if a mail server is up and responsive. What I want to know is how I can send it the telnet escape character. I've tried:VAR=`(sleep 5;echo quit) | (telnet mailserver.timbuktu.net 25 2>&- )`

This works BUT there is a problem as the mail server may have been accidentally firewalled off. If this happens, my automated checking script will hang. What I want to do is send the escape character so that the '>' prompt comes up. They I should be able to send it "quit" even if it is hung on not getting a response from the server. VAR=`(sleep 5;echo -e '^]';sleep 1;echo quit) | (telnet arhqmg01.usarec.army.mil 25 2>&- )`

The above doesn't work. telnet interprets CTRL+] as '^]' but you can't type '^]' and get the same effect. So I guess what I need is to send the actual keystrokes. Like echo "somenumber" ; echo quit

Programming :: Automated Ftp Download Of File With A Name That Changes

Apr 30, 2010

I am trying to create a script to do the following.. Login to a ftp and download a with the following naming convention xmtvMMDDYY.xml.gzon a daily basis followed by extracting that file. which I can do easy enough with a static filename. but the variable filename is throwing me off. I was planning on doing a mget with wildcard to just grab the entire directory but this found to not be as clean as I had hoped. Mainly due to the admins of the ftp keeping multiple days of the above mentioned file on the site.

Programming :: Automated Monitoring Of Different Sockets For Available Data

Feb 4, 2011

NextPendingConnection () returns a new socket with respect to a new client. This new QSocket is passed to the connect () function which connects it to a SLOT 'xyz' with SIGNAL 'readyRead()'. Now in the SLOT 'xyz' how I am supposed to automate the monitoring of ALL connected sockets to see whether some data is available on them? One pathetic way would be to run all the sockets through a for loop and check each one of them for the data. Secondly, I read up on QSocketNotifier() here: [URL]. But I am not sure if that is the correct thing.

Programming :: Testing Interactive Shell $- $PS1

I'm writing a bash script that can be run by crontab or by a user interactively.

If the script is run by a user interactively, it will ask for a parameter interactively.

If the script is run by the crontab, it validates if a command line parameter is provided.

In doing so, I cannot get these tests to work inside the bash script

Code:

This shell is not interactive

How the tests be done inside a script?

Debian Programming :: Building Gtk-sharp2 Binaries On Testing

Nov 20, 2014

I am trying to build architecture specific binaries of gtk-sharp2. So far I have been unable to get gtk-sharp2 to build even without specifying a specific architecture. I got the source with apt-get source gtk-sharp2 and attempted ./configure, make, but it fails to build with the error message:

Code: Select allNo rule to make target 'thread.c', needed by 'thread.lo'.

I've also tried downloading the source directly from the mono project [URL] ...., but when building it fails with

Code: Select all#error "Only <glib.h> can be included directly."

This site [URL] .... provides a patch to fix the error, but when I applied it I got the same error.

I think the Debian version applied the patch correctly, but for some reason I still get that other error message.

These message outputted by configure may point to the problem:

"checking if gcc supports -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions... no"
"./configure: line 12920: enable_msi: command not found"

Programming :: Coverage Testing With Gcov - Terminal Not Accepting Copy Paste?

Jun 1, 2010

I have this treacherous program in C which uses external static libraries (extern etc), and want to do a coverage test of it. The libraries are written in fortran. I compile like this Code: gcc -fprofile-arcs -ftest-coverage -o main main.c library.o I run my nice program like that

Code: ./main Then I do the magic stuff
Code: gcov main.c library.f

Ok 98% of the lines were used in main.c, and I get a file with line counts and all that. Great! But, I need to know the coverage in my library too! It says 0.0% and that's impossible. So what can I do? I can't run it like an executable because it's a library.

And why is the terminal not accepting my copy paste? I copy some lines from my IDE, then I want to paste it into the terminal (with ctrl-v of course, not some crazy local application non-standard counter-intuitive key combo made just to cause agony among honest users!), and that could've been the only problem here, but it isn't. I can't even paste with that right click menu. So, if I was crazy before, I went nuts after that. My great "solution" was to paste it into the firefox URL field (not the search field ) and then copy that and paste it into the terminal. Is that common practice for you all while dealing with that unburied DOS-window?

Programming :: BASH Script Optimization For Testing Large Number Of Files

Sep 18, 2010

I want to move files from a $SOURCEDIR to a $DESTBASE/$DESTDIR. Under $DESTBASE there are many directories, and I need to test beforehand if a file from $SOURCEDIR already exists in any of them.

This is obviously extremely slow, and the real use case involves dozens of dirs and thousands of files. Creating a temporary "index" file for the find command (instead of running it every iteration) speeds it up a little, but it's still very clumsy.

Fedora :: Software From Updates-testing Repo / Grabbed From Testing Repo When Run Regular Updates?

Jun 22, 2010

I am using Fedora 13 and I have one program (wine) that I need to start grabbing for the updates-testing repo instead of the default repositories in order to get newer versions. I think I can figure out how to add that repository, but I need to know if there are any others I need to disable or any other changes I need to make to my system so that I don't confuse my set up with conflicting updates.

Also, is there anything special I need to do to be sure that only that one program is grabbed from the testing repo when I run regular updates?

It there a way to enable automated mouse cursors in Fedora 12? About the only thing I miss from WinDoze is the animated hourglass cursor when I start an application by double-clicking its icon. With Fedora, I'll sometimes double-click an icon again, thinking that my first attempt didn't work, only to find that the program was loading and then I have two instances of the program.Yeah, it's a minor thing and, yeah, I can live without it, but it sure would be nice.

OpenSUSE :: Automated Script To Run Zypper Dup Periodically?

I recently updated my girlfriends laptop (and my own) to KDE 4.4 (using the Factory repository). I am also using some additional repositories like PackMan.

I recently read on this forum, that the updater-applet is only updating from the main repositories (the ones set up after install). I would like to update from all updates periodically using "zypper dup".

I read somewhere else, that cronjobs are used to run scripts based on schedules. how I could run "zypper dup" with a cronjob and preferably under root, so I dont have to type the password every time?

Ubuntu Installation :: Automated Kickstart Partitioning

Aug 9, 2010

I am trying to put together a customized automatic installation of Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop for a set of computers I manage at work. Since there are other servers in my department that are Red Hat based, I was introduced to Kickstart so I have been using that exclusively.

I have almost my entire installation automated using Kickstart with the exception of the partitioning, which is as follows:

My problem that I am asking for help on is that the Kickstart automates everything until the clearpart, where it then asks 2 questions which I would like to figure out how to automate the answers to (preferably within my Kickstart script)

The first question is the install process telling me about my currently configured partitions and mount points. Asking me if i want to "Undo changes to partitions" or "Finish Partitioning and write changes to disk" which I of course want to finish partitioning.

The second question is telling me if I continue the changes listed will be written to the disks, and asks if I want to "Write changes to disks?" which I want to select Yes for automatically.

Like I mentioned before I have searched the web and this forum for any potential way of doing this, but so far have come up with nothing, so I figured I would ask the experts out here and see what suggestions come up. I realize the Kickstart is not completely implemented in Ubuntu, however since I have everything written in Kickstart already I would prefer to stay within the Kickstart script to fix this.

Networking :: Automated Way Of Loging Into Servers By Netbios Name Instead Of Ip's

Sep 18, 2010

In recent days, (today is September 18, 2010) I've been surfing the web trying to learn how to access nodes in my soho lan by netbios names instead of having to connect through the ip number, because ip's change every time according to DHCP assignments. I do not know what has happened to the "new" command mount.cifs, but things seem to have become a bit more complicated with the new version. Security problems, they say, and surely that's the reason.

I show here an automated way of loging into servers by netbios name instead of having to resort to the use of IP numbers, hosts files, wins servers and all that jazz. This is especially useful if your soho lan have five or more network nodes, and you do not want to go finding out the ip numbers assigned to the machines you want to connect to (temporarily or permanently).

This output is piped to gawk to isolate the line containing <00>, and gawk outputs the first element (print $1) of that line, which happens to be the ip of the server ServerName. I tested the script in my soho network, which now has Linux, Windows XP and Windows 7 nodes, and it worked perfectly for both tipes of servers.I'm using GNU's gawk, but I'm pretty sure that awk would do the job just as well.
