the script runs fine. but the perl one liner seems not working at all. but if i copy the perl line to a command line, it runs correctly.

Sep 27, 2010I have a machine with 8 cores. I have a directory of input files that I need to process using a non-parallelized program. I would like to write a script that works its way through a list of commands executing 8 commans (i.e., instances of this program; each with specific flags having to do with the current input file) until the list of commands has been exhausted. Is there an easy way to do this?

and it would execute, even though it's not a perl script. Is that just a feature or is there something I'm missing? Why does perl do this?

Jul 16, 2010I had a problem on ubuntu when running "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and wanted to report how I solved it. Hopefully this helps anybody with similar problems.

The problem is in libxml-sax-perl.postinst which does not seem to be executable.
I did not install any perl packages manually by cpan and found the solution in http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...t-1342009.html where it was only one part of a bigger problem.
I created a backup file (always a good idea) of my libxml-sax-perl.postinst:

Programming :: Make A C App Do Multiple Tasks Simultaneously?
Oct 22, 2010I have been working on a project for a while now that involves a rather complex daemon that has to be simultaneously running different tasks. For example one of these tasks is to receive IP packets from the Netfilter queue and place those packets into one of several internal queues. While other tasks involve taking IP packets from those internal queues and processing/manipulating them and finally returning them back to the Linux network stack.
As I as I have no previous C experience before starting this project I just spawned a new thread each time I needed the daemon to be doing something else while those other tasks continued to run. Is there any other way of doing this or is this pretty much the only way of doing this? Because C is procedural I could not figure out any other way of doing accomplishing what I wanted. Should I have done it some other way or is this the correct and only way I could have gotten my C app to be running multiple tasks at the same time?

Mar 28, 2011I been using linux for a while, but I havent had the time to really learn it. Something Id like to get more familiar with is bash so here is a simple example of something I would like to do:
I have a directory full of files. For each file in the directory create a new subdirectory with each files name.
I tried this:
#im already in this directory
aaa=./*
for a in $aaa
do mkdir $a
done
One of the problems is that there are spaces () and - in the filenames so I get many subfolders with names like "-" which i don't want.
I tried stuff like:
aaa=./*
for a in $aaa
do mkdir "'"$a"'"
done
This of course also did not work.
Additional I tried just creating a folder with the name of one of the files and I got this:
mkdir: cannot create directory `(audio) - R56339.EXE': File exists
Well yeah a file exsists with that name, but I want to create a folder- why is there a conflict?
Just to be clear here are the contents of this folder:
~/Desktop/LAB/Media/Drivers - (Image Deployment)/Optiplex_GX260/XP> ls
(audio) - R56339.EXE (NIC-Onboard-Intel) - R54402.EXE
(Modem-datafax-V92) - R54403.EXE OEM_Applications

Okay now I need a perl script which create or recreate (edit) id3 tags (artist, comment, album, year, cover) of mp3 files stored on my linux centos server. I installed MP3::Tag version 1.13 pearl module to my server. I Searched tutorials about how to use it, finally I get through reading id3 tag of mp3 file but not achieve to modify it or create a new id3tag.
These are the details:
I have a mp3 file called 1.mp3 this script will process that '1.mp3' file read its id3tag if there is one, than modify or create id3tag for it by my fix artist name for example:

The reason of this script is I will share Dj podcasts on my server and Dj's would have upload their mp3's which has got different id3 tags and cover pics. etc. I want to create more organized podcasts of them by the way I would trigger this perl script via Cronjob.

In one of my (Haskell) programs, I have some error-handling code that must be in the program to keep the compiler happy (due to the type checking).
