Programming :: IDE For System Level Programming Using C?
May 24, 2010
I am new to Linux development and want to know within Linux which is the best IDE for system level programs in C like kernel modules/device drivers and other H/W level programs. I used to use Sun Studio Compiler in Opensolaris world.
I want to know what are the advantages and disadvantages for accessing spi(serial peripheral inerface )from kernel level and user level. like methods of doing it, speed ,memeory utilization etc
I first created a fork on github from an existing git repo. Then I made changes to my fork and pushed them to github again. After that the person from who I forked included my changes in his code but made some alterations on it. What I want to do know is having the exact code he has in the repo. This way I am sure that I actually develop on the same code.
I wonder how I should do this. I tried using git mergetool but I had some conflicts. So if I resolve the conflicts and make some mistake here, then I still wouldn't have the code the original repo(the repo where I forked from) has. what is the correct way to do this?
When someone is speaking into the mic, I'd like a "level meter" such as the one that comes with gnome sound recorder, that flashes up and down when a sound is made or somebody talks. This will be done in Javascript, using the brand new "Rainbow API", i.e. inside the browser.I know nothing about audio programming, so - where would I get *started* with something like this? Could anyone tell me at least WHAT to Google?
I'll just say I am a complete Linux beginner, but I have done vbs, js, php, html web type stuff so I'm not a complete beginner to programming. However I've been trying to learn C and python but it's not making a huge amount of sense.I am wanting to make a simple low level program that copies an image from a mjpeg stream on 192.168.0.1/videostream.cgi for example to a variable then save that variable to a file on my system.I am aware that there are programs out there that would do this but I still want to make my own.
I wrote a C++ program that uses two different parsers. The first parser is reading program arguments from command line:./mybin arg1 arg2 ...then during program execution there's an interactive prompt asking for more parameters:
... >> (second bunch of arguments here) ...
I'd like to run my program inside a bash script, but I don't know how to give the second level arguments.
Most kernels are written in low level programming languages such as C and Assembly. Would it be possible to write a kernel in a high level language such as Python? Many high-level languages are themselves written in C.
i was recently building on a simple socket program i had written in python basically like a little chat client but i added a server_socket.close command to kill the server on disconnect and now im getting all sorts of indentation errors
The algorithm for reading and writing disk blocks use the algorithm getblk to allocate buffers from the pool. In the algorithm getblk, if the kernel removes a buffer from the free list, it must raise the processor priority level to block out interrupts before checking the free list. Why ?Where can i find the C implementation of the above algorithm for buffer allocation in the linux source code ?
We all know linux kernel base layer is made up of structures, in which every object of kernel is well defined. Structure members correspond to object properties required to define object behavior.
For example if we take case of File system. It composed of four objects , superblock objects, inode objects, file objects and dentry object. Each having well defined structure which is being operated by system call handler and by system call service routine in the kernel mode.
Now my question is even in kernel mode we do not have some mechanism by which we can get access to pointer of these structures. We have some macro.
If I want to manipulate structure on my on way, or performing some more operation defined by me.For example after the crash of Hard Disk Drive, having ext2/3 file system, If i want to know all the inode pointers, and block details.
Can I have some way out to do desired operation ??
mechanism to operate on these base label structures, even in kernel mode ..
How can I do some socket programming using which I can send some data from a linux system to a windows system and vice versa. Can we do that using the IO:Socket:INET perl module??
I am interested in learning 3D programming. The thing is, I would hate to put too much effort to learn something that doesn't have future and is dying. My favorite language at the time is Java. My goal is professional programming.
So I have several questions: 1. Should I learn JOGL or start learning C++ and do C++ openGL programming? 2. Is there a big difference between JOGL and C++ openGL programming? 3. Is it worth to learn openGL? Does it have a future? 4. Is it a big difference between openGL and directX coding? 5. If choosing Java, then JOGL or LWJGL?
I have used Dump Command to dump the application files. For Full backup the level 0 is working fine. For incremental backup I used the level 1 or 2 it is getting the error as
DUMP: Only level 0 dumps are allowed on a subdirectory DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted.
The code I used =============================== #!/bin/bash #Full Day Backup Script #application folders backup #test is the username now=$(date +"%d-%m-%Y") [Code]...
I have a useradd script that can be found here: [Bash] #!/bin/bash #useradd script while true; do echo Please Enter First Name - Pastebin.com.I need to add users that have the same name, while keeping with the current scheme, I'd just like to have numbers at the end of the user, for example joeuser, joeuser1, joeuser2... Basically, keeping with the current naming scheme, I would like to modify the script to automatically add a number to the end of the username when I have users that have the same name.
With the command "tail -300 /var/log/apache2/access.log | less" i can look in the log for the 300 latest visitors from my logfile. and i wanted to ask if it's possiblle to get that command to run from a php file and if yes how ?? how i run system commands in php? i use debian if it matters.
I have to write a script or program to log the details of the primary partition of a linux server which should be generic. Can anyone tel what is the command in linux to get the list of the partitions and how to find the primary partition among the other. Or can I know from proc filesystem.
If you really want to learn C/C++, get set up on a Linux box with a full gcc dev system. I fixed up an old P4 Machine with 2gig ram and 80gig HD to install Linux on. Don't know anything about Linux yet but installing several distros for evaluation, but a thought occured to me. Is there a particular distro that has this "full gcc dev system" in the initial install or is this something that I will have to install after the OS is up and running on the machine? Is one distro better suited for programming than another?
i am working on a client server real-time gui application written in C++ for linux os. There is an issue with this application that it makes the system hang. i am not able to sort out the issue as it happens randomly. Sometimes with in half an hour it makes the system hang, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 hours when it receives realtime data. Is there any way to debug this issue. I tried valgrind..but it was not of much use.
Here is the program for Linux machine. GOAL: User will get notify via email when any File System reaches 90% or over 90% of its used space. User will notify as below:
Filesystem: /bkup Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/backup-BKUP 14G 12G 1.3G 91% /bkup Large Files: /bkup/prtlprd6_bk20100312_aft2ndjcr.xml
get data(like CPU Usage, Memory Usage) of a windows system through my Linux server.Because I want to monitor all the systems that are in my network. How to get data from a windows system into linux ?
So basically, there is a really cool writing system I have been working on. It could be viewed (for simplification purposes) like an encryption method for the Latin script.
Facts about the writing system: It has a little over 300 symbols. It is syllable-driven. It is highly compositional (eg. "c", "ca", "cae", "ca " and "ci." all map to different symbols - and NOT by overlaying elements) Symbols have medium graphical complexity (comparable to Korean Hangul, or Japanese Hiragana) Has a rather complex set of diacritics (~10, some of which can go on any symbol) Has no ligatures
How transliteration occurs: Sequences of Latin symbols map to certain symbols. Example below:[G][rou][p ][hu][g.]Characters sequences between "[" and "]" map to a single symbol (so it would take only 5 symbols to write "Group hug.").
How I want it to work: I would like to have a daemon that: Intercepts all text displayed on the screen. Converts it to my writing system (changes letter sequences with individual Unicode codes) Leaves unsupported symbols unchanged. Displays all the text on the screen using my font and characters intertwined with the fonts and characters left unchanged.
For example, if you take the following line of C++ code:for (i = 1; i <= n; i++) I would like it displayed like this:[fo][r ]([i ]= [1]; [i ]<= [n]; [i]++) Bold-symbols should be in my Unicode font with special symbols defined for this writing system, and the rest should be in its original font and encoding. Also, I would like this encoding to hold for display-purposes only. The data in the memory should remain unaffected. This also means real-time adjustments: if I open a text editor (say, from the OpenOffice Suite) and I start typing, I would like to see what I type encoded with my writing system, even though the document actually contains Latin letters. This also means that the symbol immediately before the cursor may change as you type.
For my work, I have to modify the routing lookup process at Linux kernel.
The details is below:
A-----B.
We have pcA, pcB (using Linux OS kernel 2.6.26.5) connect together. We need to modify the source code of kernel at B in order to if A sends the packets with destination IP address as C, pcB still receives this packet and send to transport layer (that means, it bypass the routing lookup process at kernel).
I want to add my C program's path to the environment variable PATH. My C program called "md5". So that I can execute it from anywhere (i.e any directory). My md5 program is located at "/home/ahuq/MappingServer/md5_program". So what I did was to put: "export PATH=$PATH:/home/ahuq/MappingServer/md5_program" in the running SHELL. This only makes temporary changes and lets me run the "md5" program from anywhere temporarily.
root@ahuq-kitchen:/home/ahuq# md5 -sanis MD5 ("anis") = 38a1ffb5ccad9612d3d28d99488ca94b But I want to make this change permanent. I tried to put the line "PATH=$PATH:/home/ahuq/MappingServer/md5_program" at the end of "/home/ahuq/.bashrc" and "/home/ahuq/.profile" files. I logged out of the SHELL and went in again. But it didn't work:
root@ahuq-kitchen:/home/ahuq# md5 -sanis No command 'md5' found, did you mean: Command 'cd5' from package 'cd5' (universe) Command 'mdu' from package 'mtools' (main) Command 'mdb' from package 'mono-debugger' (universe) md5: command not found
Maybe I am putting the PATH statement in the wrong place of the above mentioned files. There are a lot if-else-fi structures inside those two files. Do I need to put the PATH statement inside any of those structures? Do I just logout or do I have to restart the system to make the changes active?
I wanted to know how to kill more than one process in unix?? e.g- I have problem statement as "Write a shell script to Kill all processes started from your login "
I am wondering which operating system is better for web development between Mac, Linux, and Windows? I want to code in HTML5, PHP, MySQL, and also use AJAX.
