Programming :: CVS Client That Comes As A Single Executable File Or Web Interface?

Oct 10, 2010

My senior project team at Penn State is starting to write our code, and I was looking for a revision control system to manage it. I was going to use CVS, but I can't find a client that doesn't have to install something on the local machine(we dont have administrative permissions on school computers). Is there a CVS(or Subversion or anything else) client that comes as a single executable file or web interface?

General :: Machine Act As Both A Wireless Client And Access Point Simultaneously Using A Single Physical WLAN Interface?

Jun 23, 2010

If I have only 1 physical WLAN interface, is there some hackery that can be done so that it can be a client of an existing access point and at the same time also act as an access point for other clients? I have an existing 802.11g ADSL router, and I'm going to be building an HTPC which will have 802.11n. My laptop also has 802.11n, but at the moment it only connects at 54Mbps because thats what the AP supports. I'd like to be able to have the HTPC be a client of my ADSL router, but have my laptop be a client of the HTPC, so copying files to it will be faster.

Programming :: Convert An Arbitrary Binary File Into A Executable File?

Feb 18, 2010

In a project I'm working on with a few other people, I got the task of writing an assembler. The last thing I do is convert the commands into a binary representation, and jam it into a file. Now one of my teammates said he'd like to be able to "reference" the code within another program. He said he'd be able to do this if the file I output is a Linux object file. I'm thinking it'd also work as an executable. Anyway, he said he'd like to be able to grab the file and reference the binary by address. I'm still fuzzy on this, and if you're confused with what I said here, please tell me so I can ask him for better details.Anyway, I'm aware that gcc can compile files to ".o", but that's only for C/C++, and my file is just binary. I'm also aware of "ld", but I haven't seen any use of it to help me. I'm happy to hear suggestions as to what I can do. If anything, I think I'll implement a few functions to grab the bits and hand them to him in an array or something.

Programming :: Grep Multiple Values In Single Pass Through Log File?

Nov 13, 2010

I have a huge binary log file. There are lets say 4 id's that I want to find in a log file. I know that those 4 id's will be present in the log file and I also know in what order they will be present. I want to find 1st id from the log then 2nd id and then third id and so on..

Simple/inefficient solution is: Loop through the id's and then grep in the log file. Problem with this solution is for each id grep will search from the beginning of the file.

Better/efficient solution would be: Sine I know the order in which id's will be present in the log file. Loop through id's, grep 1st id and then move on to grep 2nd id and so on...this way I can grep all id's in one pass. Is this solution possible ?

I have 500000 + values to find in log files and I have to find efficient solution for it.

Debian Configuration :: Setup Multiple Mac Address Over Single Ethernet Interface?

Jul 23, 2015

I want to configure multiple virtual ethernet interfaces over a single physical ethernet interface (eth0) and for each virtual interface the MAC address must be unique and the IP address must be Static. Finally all the virtual interfaces must be able to communicate both internally and externally and the traffic should be captured using wireshark.

I need to have such kind of setup to communicate devices individually using one physical ethernet device.

Because I was fiddling with few kernel modules like MACVLAN and MACVTAP and successfully enabled those modules and rebuild kernel. Using macvlan and macvtap I can configure virtual interfaces with unique mac address and static IPs but while capturing packets using wireshark interfaces behave weirdly.

For example say on HOST machine I have 1 physical interface and created 3 virtual interfaces as shown below.

Interfaces :

eth0 (physical ethernet interface)
IP: 192.168.A.A
MAC: aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa

[Code] ....

First from above interfaces I started pinging eth0 internally from host machine in which it worked as usually.

Second I did same externally from other machine which is connected to the same network of Host machine, and this did work as usually.

Third I pinged first virtual interface veth0 both internally and externally and this also works and after that I did check source and destination MAC address using wireshark tool-where both showed up there respective MAC address.

Now triggers the issue, where I pinged second virtual interface same like I did for first one, but this time ping was success and where as in wireshark tool the MAC address for veth0 is picked by veth1. This is where I got stuck and this issue happened for all the remaining virtual interfaces.

I couldn't see any virtual interface showing their respective MAC address, as of the remaining except the first virtual interface has been picking the first veth0 mac address.

Programming :: Detect A Closed Tcp Client Connection When Client Is Only Receiving Data ?

Mar 9, 2011

I am writing a TCP server in C, and the server listens to incoming client connections and accepts them. It then creates a thread to handle the client. The clients are expected to only receive data from my server and not send any data. So if I use a select() call with a recv(), I believe that the recv() will just block forever since there will not be any data coming from the client. If I use a non-blocking recv(), then this will just return a 0 which tells me nothing because the client is not expected to send any data. I am not sure if I have misunderstood some socket concepts, but I need a solution to detect when the client has disconnected so that I can close the socket and stop sending data to the client. As I understand it, simple ACKs etc are not captured by the recv(), and only data sent by the client will cause recv() to return a non-zero value, so I am not sure how to know when the client has disconnected.

Networking :: Configure Torrent Client To Use Particular Interface

Jun 30, 2010

I am using two ethernet interface, in fact one ethernet interface eth0 and other is USB netconenct ppp0. I am using fedora 12 - 32 bit. I can individually use both connections. say if I disconnect ppp0 (wvdialer), everything works fine and same in other case. Now my problem is I want torrent client to use ppp0 and all other applications like firefox and other use eth0. So that I can use both interfaces effectively.

I changed in ktorrent client's configuration, and change interface to ppp0 from all interface, but it didnt work. When my eth0 id down I can ping using ppp0, but when eth0 is also up, I can ping via eth0 but not via ppp0 (ping xxxxx -I interface). What is I am doing wrong? How can I configure torrent client to use ppp0?

Programming :: Unix Programming - Single Thread Server Can Support Exactly 2 Clients At Once

Sep 28, 2010

A simple TCP based chat server could allow users to use any TCP client (telnet, for example) to communicate with each other. For this question you should consider a single process, single thread server that can support exactly 2 clients at once, the server simply forwards whatever is sent from one client to the other (in both directions). Your server must not insist on any specific ordering of messages as soon as something is sent from one client it is immediately forwarded to the other client. As soon as either client terminates the connection the server can exit

Programming :: 32-bit Executable Getting St9bad_alloc @ 3GB Mem Allocation

Jan 13, 2010

I'm maintaining a c++ application running on a 64-bit RHEL5 server w/32GB ram, but compiled to be a 32-bit executable with g++. The application handles large amounts of data, and has lately been throwing a st9bad_alloc exception. "top" shows the application as dieing right around when VIRT=~3GB, SWAP=~1.5GB and RES=~1.5GB. In the core dump I can see that it's consistently failing to push_back() a piece of data onto a std::vector (which already has hundreds of thousands of objects in it).

I know 4GB is the maximum address space for 32-bit applications. I've learned from this lwn article that a 32-bit kernel reserves 1GB of address space, leaving 3GB for user space. However I'm not running a 32-bit kernel, so that really doesn't answer anything.I wrote a dummy app which called malloc() over and over in a for loop, and it is able to allocate right up to the 4GB before it fails. I don't understand why this one seems to be able to allocate more.

The only difference between the two apps (besides malloc vs std::vector:ush_back), is that the 3GB crashing application attaches to 512mb of shared memory.Anyone have any ideas why this application would be crashing at 3GB? Is there any more diagnostics I should be doing? I would ultimately like to port this to 64-bit for a number of reasons, but it is a big undertaking for my organization, and I'd like to better understand what's going on here.
