OpenSUSE :: Unlocking The LibreOffice Locked Files?

Jul 14, 2011

Whenever I save a text file edited with LibreOffice, I get a new, locked file which can be identified with its "~.lock" file prefix. This locked file prevents access (probably for security reasons) to the original file. However, this is a serious impediment as it forbids any further editing of the original file or document so long as the locked file has not been removed. Though erasing this locked file (which can be made visible with "Ctrl-H" if hidden) should free the original, this in fact is not the case. how to unlock these locked files?

Ubuntu :: Unlocking The Locked Hard Drive?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm a software engineer that has recently tested our hard drive locking feature; I discovered an issue that prevents the user from removing the hard drive password and I used a lot of drives to narrow the issue down. Is there any Linux utility/command that can unlock drives?

There is a windows based utility here: [URL] but you need to pay to use it. I guess I'm looking for the free Linux equivalent, if there is any. FYI: The Locking is performed at the firmware level of the hard drive so a low format will not unlock it. This is a specific feature most drives have that not a lot of people know about.

OpenSUSE :: Libreoffice Won't Open Files

Aug 9, 2011

I've had a problem with libreoffice - it won't open files. That is,File/Open doesn't bring up a dialog box. File/New works and so does using a filename on the command line when starting libreoffice. Now there's good news and bad news. The good news is that with help from some libreoffice-users folks, I now know what caused this and I have a workaround. The bad news is that it's a bug in Libreoffice and I need some help testing other versions, please. So here's the steps to reproduce:

(1) Login to a Gnome session (KDE may also work, dunno)
(2) Start libreoffice
(3) Select Tools/Options/LibreOffice/General
(4) Observe in that page a checkbox 'Use LibreOffice dialogue boxes'
(5) Ensure the checkbox is blank (not selected)
(6) Save settings and check that File/Open pops up a dialog box.
(7) Quit libreoffice and log out of the session
(8) Login to an LXDE session
(9) Start libreoffice
(10) Select File/Open
*(11) Check whether a dialog box appears
(12) If not, select Tools/Options/LibreOffice/General
*(13) Check whether there is a checkbox 'Use LibreOffice dialogue boxes'

If your system does NOT open a dialog box in step 11 and does NOT have a checkbox in step 13, you are seeing the same bug as me.I'm using opensuse 11.3.

OpenSUSE :: Libreoffice 3.3.1.2 Impress Cannot Open Ppt Files

Mar 4, 2011

I received some M$ Power Points files and cannot open then. One file was from Power Points 2010, and another saved with the option 2000-2010. These were rejected by Impress with the failure report "Version Incompatibility. Incorrect file version". When a file was saved with the option Power Point 95, Impress tried to open it but when RAM useable ramped up to > 1GB, Impress automatically shut down. The only other information wrt the files is that its highly likely they contain graphics generated with M$Visio. Has anyone had similar experiences? Are there any work arounds?

OpenSUSE :: LibreOffice 3.3.3.1 Starts And Closes When Opening Doc Files

Jul 15, 2011

I have a problem with LibreOffice 3.3.3.1 (from the libreoffice stable repository) and some (not all!) .doc files. When opening some .doc files LibreOffices starts and directly closes . The same problem occurs (for the same files) with LibreOffice from the unstable repository. When I go back to the LibreOffice version (3.3.1) shiped with 11.4. everything works fine. Hence, if you have problems with some .doc files downgrade to 3.3.1.

OpenSUSE Install :: Unlocking LDAP Accounts Using Passwd?

Jul 18, 2011

I'm trying to setup a LDAP server and it seems to have all gone pretty well. I set it so that users that type their passwords wrong 5 times are locked out for 20 minutes. That works fine, but if I want to log on as an admin and unlock their account before that 20 minutes is up it isn't working.Normally, (authenticating locally)

Code:

passwd -u blank888

works and does what I want it to. If I want passwd to recognize the LDAP server I use

Code:

passwd -D cn=Administrator,dc=example,dc=com -u blank888

When I run that, it always asks for the admin password like it should, but then will only work on some accounts and not others. Mainly I've seen that it only works on accounts that already had local accounts before connecting to the LDAP server. If I run a passwd -Sa command I will get something like:

blank888 LK 07/18/2011 0 999 7 -1
blank888 LK 07/18/2011 0 999 7 -1
test LK

blank888 already had an account on the machine, but also had a LDAP account along with test. So blank888 is showing twice because he has both LDAP and local accounts, whereas test only has a LDAP account. So now if they both get locked out passwd -D $adminDN -u $account will work for blank888 but not test. Then the results of a passwd -Sa would be:

blank888 PS 07/18/2011 0 999 7 -1
blank888 PS 07/18/2011 0 999 7 -1
test LK

I need to be able to unlock test using passwd. The LDAP server is running 11.2, and the hosts are running various Linux distros, and XP.Can anything think of a way to fix this without removing the LDAP server, adding local accounts for everyone, and then putting the LDAP server back on?

OpenSUSE :: Plasma No Longer Registers Mouse Clicks After Unlocking The Cursor From DOSBox

Jun 18, 2011

I'm currently running openSuSE 11.4 (kde v 4.6.4), and after unlocking the mouse cursor from the DOSBox (v 0.74) window, none of the Plasma Desktop Widgets or Components will register mouse clicks until I reboot.

Is there something config-wise I might change to prevent this from happening, or is there an otherwise quick way to restart only plasma using the terminal? Yakuake still drops down, and works, fortunately, so doing this is not a problem.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that all of said applications were installed from openSuSE repos using YaST2.

Ubuntu :: Permissions With LibreOffice .lck Files In LO-Base?

Feb 17, 2011

I've recently converted two Ubuntu 10.04 (one 64, one 32bit) machines to LibreOffice. We've used OpenOffice.org since early 2.x The issue is a database file created in OOo and now needing to be accessed in LO. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any issue with file compatibility. On the 64 bit machine, (a Ubuntu server installation - not headless) the file opens with no trouble and is fully accessible. (forms, reports, tables, etc.) However, on the 32 bit machine, trying to access the file over the network on the server via samba (because we also have Windows machines on the network, so I serve it all up via samba) I am able to open the database, but get the following error when trying to access any table, form or report: The connection to the data source "Mattress Prices" could not be
established.

Software :: Firefox Not Opening ODT Files In Libreoffice

Apr 18, 2011

I can't get Firefox to open Opendoc files in the correct program.

I'm using Gnome 2.32 (or 1.4.2? I'm not sure) and KDE 4.6.1 and in both instances whenever I download an ODT and right-click to "Open" it in the Downloads window, Firefox opens up "python /usr/bin/ebook-viewer (filename)".

I already went into mimeTypes.rdf and deleted the entire reference to odt, and I also went into dolphin, konqueror and nautilus to make sure it opens into Libre Office.

What else do I need to do to make Firefox open ODT files in the application I desire?

Ubuntu :: Libreoffice Writer Or Natty Produce Huge Files

May 3, 2011

I do monthly reports by copying the previous document, update the text and change the images. The images are the same size and numbers each months. Since last month I upgraded my laptop to Natty and suddenly my document went from 942 kB to 10.1 MB in .odt. When saving to PDF the usual size of 472 went up to 1.9 MB. I have searched the net and the forums but haven't seen anything about a similar issue.

I'm not sure if it's an issue that is from the previous document being produced in Open Office and now updated and saved in Libreoffice. Or if it's somehow something to do with the upgrade from Maverick to Natty. I would hope I don't have to uninstall Libreoffice and install Open Office as a solution (which I understand is not entirely easy in Natty, something I read about Open Office being transitional to Libre). I can't email simple documents to customers that's over 10 MB large...

Ubuntu :: Recovered Files / Folders From USB Are Locked?

Apr 15, 2010

I have recovered most of my USB drive, but a couple of folders are locked and look like files. I'm unable to change permissions on them and "You are not the owner so you cannot change these permissions." appears in the properties tab. The owner is "184444735 - user #-184444735" and the group is "17414907" which makes no sense to me. Most other folders and files are OK. The disaster I recovered from was a partition move that failed. I used fsck to get most things back. Any idea how I get these couple of folders (the most important one is one of them "Documents" of course). to be visible?

General :: Locked Files On HFS - Home Partition Shared Between OSX

May 17, 2011

I dual boot into Arch Linux and OS X 10.6 on my MacBook pro. I synced my UID between both OSes and created an HFS partition (with no journaling) to use as a shared home/Users partition. For the most part it works just as I'd expect, but sometimes when I'm booted into OS X certain files are "locked" (when I get info on a particular file the "Locked" box is checked under the "General" pane. I can resolve the issue by manually unchecking the box) and/or I get "Operation not permitted" when I try deleting or chmod'ing a file. In both cases I don't see anything out of the ordinary on the permission bits displayed with ls -l, except for a trailing '@' character in the position where the sticky bit would normally occur:

This '@' character shows up on ALL normal files, so doesn't seem to be linked to the locked/operation not permission situation.

On the Linux side of things I never have permission problems. To the best of my limited knowledge and experience with ACLs I've not found any ACLs on any of the files in question.

For what it's worth, I do most of my file editing using emacs (Aquamacs in OSX), is it possible it is setting weird permission bits?

What is the "locked" setting that OS X uses and does it have a permission bit equivalent (so at the very least I could recursively unlock all files in my home directory from the terminal) why might some, but not other files get "locked" when booting into OS X what is the meaning of the '@' character?

Ubuntu :: Recovering Locked Files From Trashed Installation

Jul 2, 2010

I have a laptop that I have been running 64bit lucid on after some problems with NFS Samba and SMB the installation got a bit trashed after some workarounds I removed nautilus completely and rebooted and got the looping login screen........ then I tried a suggestion to purge gdm but that left me with a blank grey screen and a mouse pointer. X11 has failed so I have no graphics

I can login properly to the drive from the terminal and can access my drive contents... I cannot load dolphin or nautilus from the terminal. So I have booted from a live cd and have moved some of my data to another partition but some is locked to the owner (me). How can I get my locked data opened so I can copy or move it to another drive, so I can perform a fresh install.

Ubuntu Networking :: Files Created In Samba Are Locked From Nfs & Vice/versa

Mar 2, 2010

I have just recently setup our network with an Ubuntu server which is being accessed by one Ubuntu workstation with nfs, & one XP workstation with Samba. Following instructions from the web, I set permissions like this:

sudo chmod 777 /media/Data sudo chown -R curley:curley /media/Data The problem is that files created in Samba are locked from nfs & vice/versa. I am assuming I need to add the nfs network share to the Curley group or use something more global than curley to make this work?

Samba is working ok from Ubuntu when browsing through Nautilus, but there is no access to shares when doing things like uploading or downloading files to the web (the "save file" window only shows local folders). So I guess I wouldn't mind just using Samba if I could map a folder in Samba to solve that problem.
