I would like to design a custom A3 size calendar in my linux.
I have a printer that can print that size but I do not know in which program I can make a customized calendar with the features below:
-A3 size
-Months from April2011-February2012
-Reserve space inside dates for comments.
I have a Canon i560 printer, which is rather well supported by Gutenprint drivers. I have been using those for a while and they serve my regular printing needs. However, when I try to print a good quality photo on glossy photo paper, strange stuff happens.The colour doesn't come out nice, but somewhat faded. Worse, no matter how I specify that I want to make a print on 10x15 glossy paper, the actual print is always cut off, printed landscape when I specify portrait, etc. The printer is shared via CUPS and when my wife prints from her Windows XP machine, the printer works normally and the colours look brilliant so there's no problem with the machine itself, it has to be in the driver.
I googled this problem extensively and in my search, I found out that Canon does in fact have a Linux driver for this printer, though it can't be found through their website. It is on their ftp server, however: ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/bj/linux/I installed the driver from there, following instructions that I found on the web and I have the printer working. But...the photo paper size that I want to print on (10x15 centimetres) isn't available in the ppd file. I can also not specify a custom paper size to print on in digikam or gwenview, since that option is greyed out...Since a ppd file is a text file, I decided to see if I could add a custom paper size. I googled some more and found this page: Adding Custom Paper Sizes to a Custom Printer File Using a Text EditorWith the help of that page, I thought I had it nailed. I added the following to my ppd file:

I want conky to display holidays on their respective days. I would be using a Catholic calendar. Do I make an .xml file of the dates and feasts? How can that be accomplished?

2. What tool sets are recommended for maintaining them?
I suspect that the first question really addresses the second rather than the literal question because of the source of the request. Here's the environment. A small church wants to post and maintain a website. Various non-tech persons will be responsible for maintaining much of
the content of the site. This tells me that they want/need a site that contains the necessary content maintenance tools within the site itself, not a tool on the individual desktops with the only real need for the design/dev tools being for initial construction of the site and a GOOD book on site design to guide construction of the site in the first place.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust spent three whole days barking up the wrong tree, solving Fedora 11 and Fedora 12 boot failures because the correct hypothesis was illogical: installation did not update/modify the initrd.
The first couple of times I installed Fedora 11 on the HighPoint Technologies RocketRaid 2640x4, the installation inserted my "custom" driver module (rr26xx) into the initrd, permanently, so that the system booted off the controller card for which the custom driver was inserted. (I yelled about this success in this thread: [url]
My most recent installs of BOTH F11 and F12 on the RocketRaid failed to properly set up the boot. It turns out that the "rr2640" module I "slipstreamed" into the installation process was *NOT* permanently added to the initrd by anaconda. (F12 gave me "no root device found boot has failed, sleeping forever", on boot; F11 hung also, without such error, I presume, during the init script execution). Because of limited resources and time, I only know for sure the module was missing from the F11 initrd, and am ASSUMING the same was the case with F12.
The only difference between the successful installs and the ones with failed boot is that the successful installs were made on a single-drive (JBOD) mode on the controller; whereas, the failed ones were placed on RAID 5. But, AFAIK, the created logical device for the card is "/dev/sda", in both cases, and the kernel can not distinguish between the two cases (or can it?). Thus, the inconsistency cost me a lot of time, and is still inexplicable to me.
Question: What is the best way to deal with custom drivers, today? There are custom spins, and many tools, like isomaster. Stupid question: Is there a way to modify the initrd inside an installer ISO -- be it for CD/DVD/USBboot drive -- beefing the init RAM disk with whatever modules you'd like, for the boot process (using, say, isomaster)?
And what makes anaconda understand that a module must be added to the initrd ? How can one force anaconda to do so?
How does moving to dracut as the initrd tool affect any/all of the above?
When I build the kernel 2.6.30 source, the rpm package is very big and needed or root filesystem 800-900 Mb. I use "make rpm" as described in Configure, Build and Install a Custom Linux Kernel - openSUSE.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4 KDE 64 bit. I have desktop effects disabled for power consumption purposes on my laptop. When I shutdown or reboot the system the air theme for the the taskbar is mostly black with some grey. If I enable desktop effects, apply, and then disable the effects the correct look of the theme is shown and the appearance is retained with effects disabled. Pictures below of theme after reboot and then theme after enabling and disabling desktop effects.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am aware that support for loading a custom DSDT file has generally been dropped since kernel 2.6.31 and I have a netbook that requires the use of a fixed DSDT file. I have heard that SUSE is the only distro working on applying the DSDT loading patch to their kernels.
I currently use ubuntu on my netbook and have been compiling my own kernels in order to use a custom DSDT file. It's a pain to compile each kernel release on a slow netbook, so my quick question is: can I load a custom DSDT file with the latest stock SUSE kernel? If this is the case, I'll give it a shot.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have swapped backspace key with ` (grave) key. So I added a layout in the /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us with the following lines:
key <TLDE> { [ BackSpace, BackSpace, BackSpace, BackSpace ] };
key <BKSP> { [ grave, asciitilde, dead_tilde, asciitilde ] };
Now the backspace and grave work well, but when I press shift + grave (previously backspace key), I get grave, not asciitilde.
This is strange because I tried the same thing (with the same us file) with Chakra linux and it worked without any problem.
Getting sick of always having toner saver active when printing in Linux, I've used windows today to "print to file" and examine how the windows driver for my printer manages to override the toner saver settings.
It turns out that the windows driver prepends some PJL commands to the PostScript file that is sent to the printer. Nothing really fancy, so I would like to:Define two logical printers: one that uses the "toner save" feature and one that prints with the highes quality. For the "high quality" printer, prepend the same PJL commands that the windows driver adds.
Any hints on how I can do that (especially adding the PJL commands to the data that is sent to the printer)? My search skills seem to let me down on this one :-(

i need to install openSUSE 11.2 from an USB stick. I followed this article SuSE install from USB drive - openSUSE using the openSUSE-11.2-NET-i586.iso. Unfortunately the kernel provided in this image doesn't load on my target as it needs a few extra modules for its chipset.
Thus i copied our custom kernel (which is verified to run on the target) and its initrd to the usb stick and i also created a new entry in the syslinux.config. The kernel loads, but then it can't find the root device.Does anybody know, how i need to configure the initrd to make the USB stick the root device?
I'm doing a multiboot system where I need one of the boot options ( using Grub ) to set a number of custom environment variables e.g. "distro".

I am designing a KEDB (Known Error Database) which I am currently maintaining with MS-Excel. I want to develop a Web Application to accomplish this task in a more convenient and effective way. Well, you guess, the client should be happy to see how we provide support more effectively...? I want to make it ITIL-Compliant. I (optionally) want to provide the Problem and Change Management facilities within it in a way that the concerned teams and the management can find the KEDB very useful for their work also. I am going to do it entirely in PHP and JavaScript for client-side validations wherever needed.
