After updating to kde 4.6, when I try to create a contacts group in kontact, it doesn't suggests anymore the contacts that match the letters already written. So, I have to write the complete name and the complete email address. Apart from the annoyance, it is a source of mistakes...
View 6 RepliesI just reinstalled openSUSE 11.2 for the first time. I took a backup of my /home first of course and then copied over to my new install whatever I wanted, like mails from Kmail and some other stuff. The only thing I'm missing and can't seem to find is my contacts from Kontact? Are they included in any of the other apps? 'cause I can't seem to find anything even related to Contacts in /home/.kde4/share/apps where all the other stuff from Kontacs where.

Added a LOT of names and addresses into Kontact Contacts. Now, how do I get these names and addresses into Kmail address book?
I am using Kontact for mailing (with 'build-in' kmail), scheduling etc. I can fill a contact list manually in Kontact which is accessible when I am composing an email. Manually filling is quite time-consuming so I would like to know whether it is possible to one (or both) of the following things:
1) save your Kmail 'recent addresses' list to 'Contacts'
2) save emailadresses in incoming mail to 'Contacs'
[EDIT] I don't think it really matters but I am using OpenSUSE 11.1 at my office and Kubuntu 10.04 at home. My question is for both OSs
This concerns the Logical Volume Manager (LVM).
1) Why would I create a new volume group to add a new hard drive to a system, rather than add the drive to an existing volume group?
2) If I created a new volume group and added a new hard drive to it, would I see the total free space (I see 30 GB now via the file browser)? For example, if I have 30 GB free on the main drive (with the OS), and I add a new drive of say 40 GB in a new volume group (using LVM) would I see 70 GB of free space? That doesn't seem to happen.
I have a Palm TX. I used to sync it with kontact through kpilot. Now I have to use jpilot, but I prefer kontact because I have all the rest of information (mail, etc) there.

In earlier version (KDE 3) I had summary with calendar, holidays, notes and mail notifications in left column of summary and RSS (Akregator) channels in right column. I can't do the same thing with new Kontact - left column takes all summary window I don't have Akregator plugin in Summary configuration but Akregator is of course installed:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using openSuSE 11.3 with KDE 4.5 from Distro:/Factory repos, and all seems to be right (some bugs on Digikam and Amarok but they are already reported), but I find that everything is in my language (Spanish) but Kontact family (Kmail, Kadressbook, Akregator,...) that are in American English .I tried to install all KDE's spanish localization from YaST and cleaning ~/.kde4 folder to reset configurations, but it's useless. I don't know if the problem is only mine or just localization in Kontact is not in repos (I noticed that Kontact's version is 4.4.5 because the "newer KDEPIM" is in beta right now).

View 9 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft Outlook increments Kontact invites by one hour. It appears that Kontact and Microsoft Outlook process ical.ics invite times differently. According to an inside source at Microsoft, Outlook is looking for a flag in the ical.ics file that indicates if time is being send in daylight saving time (DST), or standard time. If the DST/ST flag is not present, Outlook assumes the time sent is standard time. Outlook also looks at the time zone. If the time zone indicates DST is active, and the time sent is in standard time, Outlook increments the time by one hour. Kontact does not create a DST/ST flag for the ical.ics files it creates. Thus, all invite times I send to my Outlook clients are off by one hour.I don't know the ical.ics standard.
Is Kontact not implementing an ical.ics standard, or is this DST/ST flag just an internal Microsoft standard? IMHO Microsoft's algorithm for determining DST is inefficient, and not logical. The algorithm relies on the receiver knowing the DST rules of the sender. The logical way is to send time as an offset to universal time. The receiver then adjusts time according to the local DST rules, without having to know about sender DST rules.
I just started using Kontact and have imported all my contact details from Thunderbird.This worked OK, but I find that when I start a new email and begin to type the recipient's name, the email address is not automatically pulled from the contact list as I would expect.I also noticed that there doesn't appear to be a 'Send Email' option in the Contact screen once an entry has been selected.Kmail seems to be collecting email addresses from any emails I send, and if I start typing one of these, then it does auto-complete

Evolution 2.30.1.2 (OS 11.3) has the data in ~./evolution while Evolution 2.32.1 (OS 11.4) has the data in ~/local/share/evolution.These are observations from what I have tried.1. The backup from Evo 2.3O.1.2 does not work under restore in 2.32.12. If copy ~/.evolution and ~/.gconfig/apps/evolution form 2.30.1.2 to 2.32.1 (that was the way to migrate under 2.30 and before).
2.1 the setup is transfer and works2.2 the mail is transfer and works (including the folders)2.3 the contact folders are corrupted: some can not be open, some work, some can not be deleted. I change permission without any success. 3. I delete ~/evolution (which has no effect in the new evolution), ~/.gconf/apps/evolution and ~./local/share/evolution. Then I reboot. (this is key) After I start evolution everything is new. I can make contact folders and they seems to work fine. I can add and delete contacts etc. Now If I import vcards created from evolution 2.30.1.2as way to preserve all the contacts)and try to restore the folders something weird happens: the contacts transfer to the folder specified but they are also transfer to the other folders. If I delete the contacts in one folder all the duplicates are also gone. If I tried to delete the folders I can not do it

I've imported my contacts in adressbook and I can see them in Kontact - Adresses. But when I compose a new mail, I can't select any of my contacts. There is a combobox to select between following choices:
All
Default Adress book
Distribution list
recent adresses
Selected adresses
But none of these options shows the contacts I have imported. And I can't find an option to make my imported adress book the default adress book.

I have a group (GROUP) with a number of users. I recently added a new user (NEW). NEW is able to read but not write group files, whereas all the other users in the group can read and write to the group files. The permissions for the group files indicate that all members of group should have write permission -rwxrwxr-x
/etc/group indicates that NEW is a member of GROUP

GROUP:x:501:GROUP,OLD,OLD2,OLD3,OLD4,....,NEW

Don't know if it matters, but both OLD and NEW write to the GROUP files over an internet connection. why NEW can't write to GROUP files? Is there a maximum number of members in a group that I might have exceeded?

I've imported a vcard addressbook in kontact. When I create a new mail and start typing something in the "to" input field, no contacts are automatically added. When I click the "select" button, nothing is found, except for the recently added email addresses. Nothing from my imported addressbook though.
This also didn't work in opensuse 11.3 KDE. Am I doing something wrong here?

I don't want to just copy the people from the developers group into wheel, because then when that group changes I'll have to change it in two places.
