OpenSUSE Install :: Yast Partitioning Error - 4017

Feb 26, 2010

Trying to install OpenSUSE on an HP ML115 with an SmartArray E200 controller. Get to the partitioning screen, select LVM and carry on, when "preparing disks" I get error -4017

"Failure occurred during the following operation: Creating volume group system from /dev/cciss/c0d0p2"

Google the error and found a similar fault which was fixed back in OpenSUSE 10.2!

The only one I have involves partitioning the disk with Ubuntu and then installing OpenSUSE on top of that!

OpenSUSE Install :: Yast Control Center - Error Accessing?

Nov 18, 2010

I'm having trouble with Yast, I noticed today that I can't open the control centre from the desktop (along with install/remove software) when opening from the command line I get. the following output:

** (y2controlcenter-gnome:9050): WARNING **: error accessing /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_command_line [Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)]

Yast2 control centre opens, but none of the options load when selected. I have tried updating everything through Zypper which didn't work. (aka zypper ref/up etc). Then I tried removing yast and installing it again. When I did this (and downloaded the Yast control centre again the above errors, reappeared.

OpenSUSE Install :: DBus Error - Can't Access Software Repository Settings In Yast

May 8, 2010

What the heck do I do now? 2 times I've re-installed suse 11.2 and this is what I get every time it tries the first update. I just had a perfectly fine working version of 11.2 that was installed using the network install just 3 days ago but I messed up and couldn't access mySql. Today I blew it away thinking I'd just start over and now it doesn't work. I installed it exactly the same as 2 days ago, whats changed? How do I fix this? I can't access the software repository settings in yast, nothing happens when I try to start it.

OpenSUSE Install :: Partitioning & Booting - (grub Won't Install On The Pci Express Card As It Is A Raid0 Array)

I am currently running all my applications off a HD as I was unable to install the grub bootloader on my ocz pci express card (grub won't install on the pci express card as it is a raid0 array). I would like to use the HD for backup only and run everything off the ocz card - with the exception of booting (which is unfortunate but I didn't manage to make the pci express card boot). How is it possible to tell suse during the installation to create the /boot on the HD and the rest on the pci express card and also to allocate the remainder of the HD as empty storage area??

OpenSUSE Install :: Partitioning Of A (new) Windows 7 HD?

Sep 22, 2010

Just acquired a new laptop, Gateway NV, i5-430, 4GB, 500GB HD, Intel GMA, and, of course, Windows 7. I wish to install openSUSE (as I have on my other laptops and boxes, with Windows/XP and (sigh..) one Vista). No problems with partitoning any of them, but I have not partitioned a Windows 7 HD.I do wish to keep Windows 7, but SUSE has become my primary OS. So the question is: do I use Windows 7 utilities to "shrink" its main partition and then install 11.3 ? Alternatively, I can use the 11.3 install DVD to do the "shrink". I have already run the install up to, but NOT INCLUDING the actual partitioning.Windows has commandeered the first three (3) primary partitions, so SUSE goes to an extended partition. Windows looks something like:

1: 12GB (Recovery Partition)2: 102 MB (System Reserved)3. 453GB Windows 7 primary partitionThe 11.3 install proposes reducing #3 (above) to 163GB and allocating the remaining to SUSE (swap, /, and /home). I will probably tinker with the sizes (I really do not need a 280BG /home), and I want some space for an alternate distro.Any and all advice on the partitioning choice(s) will be appreciated. I did also attempt "GParted" from the Ubuntu liveCD, but the only way to boot that liveCD was to use "-xforcevesa" and I was not completely confident of that!(Note: already created the "factory recovery" DVDs and the apps/drivers DVD. I may dry run them before I do the actual partitioning. There is no data or software on it.)

OpenSUSE Install :: Partitioning Not Detected By Installer?

Jul 4, 2010

I have 2 physical 500 GB Sata drives/stripes that appear as 1000 GB C: drive under WinXP. I have partitioned that drive into 750 GB Windows native C: and an empty 250 GB partition F:
When running the installer for OpenSuse 11.2 only the physical drives appear in the list of available hard drives 2x 500 GB (= sda and sdb), rather then the partitions of 750 and 250 GB (would expect sda1 and sda2). Is it possible to install Opensuse on the 250 GB partition (F: under windows) without destroying the WinXP installation and data on the C: partition?

OpenSUSE :: Gnome Install Using YaST Over KDE

Feb 24, 2010

From a fresh install of OpenSuse 11.2 64 bit the default is KDE. But if you want to install both KDE and Gnome on the same machine. I got to Yast --> Patterns --> And tick Gnome Desktop Environment and Gnome Base System.

That inturn pops up with a dependency issue. That states the following:
#### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2010-02-24 13:18:37 ####
pattern:gnome-11.2-20.22.1.x86_64 requires patterns-openSUSE-gnome, but this requirement cannot be provided
uninstallable providers: patterns-openSUSE-gnome-11.3-1.1.1.i586[http-download.opensuse.org-ae9db630]
patterns-openSUSE-gnome-11.3-1.1.1.x86_64[http-download.opensuse.org-ae9db630]
patterns-openSUSE-gnome-11.2-20.22.1.x86_64[openSUSE 11.2-0]
patterns-openSUSE-gnome-11.2-20.22.1.i586[repo-oss]
patterns-openSUSE-gnome-11.2-20.22.1.x86_64[repo-oss]
[ ] do not install pattern:gnome-11.2-20.22.1.x86_64
[ ] break gnome by ignoring some of its dependencies
[x] deinstallation of patterns-openSUSE-kde4_pure-11.3-1.1.1.x86_64
#### YaST2 conflicts list END ###

So my question is what exactly does removing and applying the Gnome pattern do. Because it seems to change alot more than just branding. It changes the default environment to GTK. How would go about reverting the pattern back to KDE after the install of all the correct Gnome Dependencies.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 On An Existing Partitioning Scheme With Encrypted LVM

I need to migrate this to an OpenSUSE 11.2 server (cannot use a later version due to the availability of a binary-only module - that is just the way it is). When I fire up the installer, I cannot seem to find an option to mount the encrypted disk (/dev/sda) which has the LVM2 structure. I do not want to lose /home (logical LVM2 volume), so a clean blank slate install is not an option.

OpenSUSE :: How To Install Vuse 4.3 Via RPG / YaST In Two Clicks

Jan 29, 2010

If you go to Vuze: The most powerful bittorrent client in the world. you'll see that you can download a tarball for linux. But, if you're like me, you'd rather get the RPG so you can use YaST to install it, allowing you to add vuze to your application launcher and desktop. After digging through google for the rare RPG files for the latest version of vuze.

Step 1: Download the swt libraries RPM here: ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/packman.i...m.6.1.i586.rpm - ( original link found on this page )
Step 2: Download the Vuze RPM here: ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/packman.i...1.1.noarch.rpm (original link found on this page)

The Vuze package needs the swt libraries pre-installed, so download that one first. In just two clicks, you'll have the latest version of Vuze installed by YaST on your system! BTW, this is my first post and first thread in these forums. I just installed SUSE on Tuesday and it's my first Linux OS I've tried.
