View 1 RepliesI'm installing OpenSuse 11.2 on some systems. Unfortunately the only mouse available is a serial mouse. Hence the installer doesn't recognize the mouse.And it is somewhat cumbersome using the TAB and ARROW keys to navigate the graphical installation.Does anyone know of a boot option I could use to get OpenSuse's installer to recognize a serial mouse ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set rxtxSerial to work so a Java app has access to a serial port (via SiLabs CP210x driver, port /dev/ttyUSB0). When I use update-alternatives --config java, there are 3 alternatives which provide `java'. I have tried openJDK and Sun. Both fail but with completely different messages.

I built a new pc and want to have Suse again. Unfortunately Suse installation does not recognize my CD/DVD device. So I boot from DVD select installation and a few moments later there's a popup 'make sure cd number 1 is in your drive'. I also did try to load other kernel modules but nothing helps. The only drive which is always recognized is floppy drive.
Here are some details about my system: Asrock P55M Pro board, Intel P55 chipset, 2 SATA HDD's, IDE NEC 2510 DVD writer, BIOS is set to AHCI due to Windows.
I tried following:
Use Suse DVD 11.0, 11.2, x86 or x64
Set BIOS to AHCI, IDE (compatible), IDE (enhanced)
DVD writer NEC was used in my former pc and did install 11.0 without probs.
Installing from HDD is new to 11.2 thus I copied the DVD to a directory. During Installation I can select the correct partition but suse is not able to find repositories.(?)
I am trying to get two way serial communications going between a Windows XP system and a Linux system (RHEL 5).I have /sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0
in /etc/inittab. I am using a generic USB to serial adaptor on Windows (Unitek) and a null modem cable. I have putty configured for 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, one stop bit, no flow control.I get the login prompt from agetty in the putty window but input does not work; I see weird characters in the putty screen. I can echo output into the device from windows and see it, but
cat < /dev/ttyS0. just prints out weird characters from what I type.
We have a new machine with RedHat enterprise 5 on it. I need to connect a serial cable to the serial port and talk to another system (old alpha system) instead of using a VT connected to the alpha.Does RedHat come with anything like Keaterm/hyperterm/etc etc?

Watching through /var/log/messages it says that F10 detects two port device for this modem: ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, and in the sequence it disable port ttyUSB1 BUT Network Manager still set this port.I mean, when i connect via wvdial appointing to ttyUSB2 i get connection, but Network Manager fails to do it appointing to ttyUSB1. How to change device port in Network Manager?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have cloned an embedded system that runs Opensuse 11 x86 using dd. The embedded system uses a simple serial device, by writing to the relevant device file (/dev/ttyS2, usually). Curiously, when I write to the same serial device on the newly cloned system (which, incidentally, has almost identical hardware), thusly:
echo hello > /dev/ttyS2 the command blocks for up to a minute, before finally returning without making the hardware do anything. I can boot into Opensuse's rescue system on the clone and successfully do exactly the same thing, as I can when I boot the original's "identical" operating system. Why might this problem occur? What can I do about it?

How do I install Javax.comm for serial port programming. I have been all over the Internet without finding anything useful. I did install the librxtx-java package, but still eclipse or monodevelop will not recognize import gnu.io. I am using eclipse. What am I doing wrong. Surely, it should not be this difficult. I might have to do this in C++, or Basic even (Gambas2) if I can not figure this out.

I am writing some application in C, which will access a serial port device (RS232). My application is working good. But if any other application is already opened the port, I couldn't able to identify that. In windows VB program, while accessing comport through mscomm control, i am receiving an error as "Port Already Opened". But in Linux environment, through C program how can i get that? I am accessing comport 1 as follows
fd = open("/dev/ttyS0", O_RDWR | O_NOCTTY | O_SYNC);
this weekend I updated the OS on my laptop from OS 10.3 to 11.2.Most things worked fine ... and quickly ... but I have issues with some USB devices.Printers and everthing that works like a Memory Stick, HD (camera, mobile phone) are OK. But after the update to 11.2 I can neither use my scanner anymore nor my Garmin GPS device. Both devices are listed with 'lsusb' correctly. But applications are not able to find/access them.
For the GPS device I do not know how to do more tests. The application (gpsman) that worked fine with 10.3 does not find it anymore. The Scanner is detected by Xsane or Skanlite and also the driver can be installed with Yast when plugged in. But a test fails with "sane_start: Error during Device I/O". 'sane-find-scanner' also lists the device correctly. As a normal user it complains that there is no write access for usblib to the usb device. As root this error does not appear. It can be avoided temporarily by setting chmod 777 to all /dev/bus/usb entries. Then 'sane-find-scanner' does not show any errors.
But the applications do not work.
I already added the normal user to the "lp" group as shown in the /etc/udev/rules.d/55-libsane.rules and tried to give access to the usb-devices in /etc/fstab .... all without success. As I have two USB devices (Scanner, GPS) that worked fine with 10.3 but are not an external HD (or similar), I assume that someting has changed with the handling of USB devices from 10.3 to 11.2.
I have LG usb net setter, i want to install it on Linux Suse 10, anyone can give me the installation process for USB Netsetter.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI communication with different subsystems using serial port. In some subsystems after running for a while, I start getting invalid data inspite of system sending correct data. For dealing with this situation I used to
reset serial ports by closing and reopening serial port, it was doing the trick but somehow when I have implemented this in my new application, this also doesn't work.
void CPort::
The ClosePort function invokes close system call.
some other way to reset serial port in Linux? I am using RHEL 4, C++ and Qt 4.2.1 for my application development. Also I have used multithreading to implement each subsystem in a separate thread. Its strange that if A,B,C are three threads, A & B run fine together but when C is introduced B starts receiving invalid data after sometime and never recovers even after resetting the port as mentioned above.
