my yum is working if i am physically on the terminal, but while connection with SSH its not working giving me Auto, request.Can someone please clarify this to me.i am on Centos 5.3 X64.

I'm having no sound and no flash workin on my newly updated F12 kde x86_64 desktop, I could get back sound by yum removing pulseaudio, but installing flash ( thru mjmwired instructions), get pulseaudio back installed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a dell laptop. My WiFi connection that I've been using on the same computer for years is not working when I log on. However if I run the burnt image cd and choose the option "Use Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer" I am asked if I want install proprietary drivers. If I activate one "Broadcom STA" I can connect to the wireless connection in my house. When I am using the version installed on my laptop it doesn't ask me if I want to install the drivers and it doesn't even find them when I go to hardware drivers under system. So to sum it up I can get connection when I run Ubuntu from the cd but not when I run the Ubuntu on my laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy lan connection to my router isn't working i have it plugged in the cable is good ( fyi i do have some computer knowledge) So my wireless is working right when i booted up but my lan is not. i have a @#$^ i am afraid to say what it is lol dell with their integrated ethernet card. OS: ubuntu 10.04 everything works fine but the wired connection.
Dlink router with all of the settings made properly. i read somewhere about doing a whole bunch of stuff but i thought that since this was a higher version they would have that problem fixed. i also have aim or msn whichever is more preferred. i hopefully will be notified that someone has responded to this thread.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on HP Pavillion ze5400.Wireless card is bcm94306MP. Wireless connection shows as disconnected. I am troubleshooting using the Ubuntu documentation on solving wifi problems. Ran ishw and it appears I do not have a driver properly installed. Obtained what I believe is the driver: bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5.sys. Installed bcmwl5.inf using ndisgtk. I know its there as I can see it in System>admin>windows wireless drivers. However lshw still does not show it under configuration. I understand I must put the sys file in the same folder as where this inf file got installed. I assume all I do is copy and paste it into that folder. Is this correct? Next I need to find that folder. I tried the command find /home -name bcmwl5.inf and it did not show up. Can someone educate me just how to do this, that is find the folder and insert the sys file?
After I pass this hurdle then I will tackle trying to configure the card.
I have a wired problem in Ubuntu 10.10, My Ubuntu can connect with Wireless network, however it cannot connect to Wired Connection. I installed dual System, one is Ubuntu 10.10, the other one is Win7. Under Win7, I can both connect to the Internet in Wired or Wireless mode.
The more wired phenomenon is: When I plug in the cable, I can see the icon connected in my network manager. But I cannot visit any URLs. By checking the "ifconfig -a", I can see the IP addr was assigned to my eth0.

Running a wired connection through a Linksys router that suddenly stopped working today.I thought this was a ipv6 issue sinced I enabled some of those settings to share a connection with my PS3.I have since disabled IPv6 in Firefox and through the grub. The RealTek adapter will not even show a connection through the network manager when connected.The onboard adapter will show a connection, give me a ip address and MAC but still will not load the internet. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both adapters through the network connections, as well as reinstalling Firefox to no avail.I've also tried using Open DNS servers.I cannot ping through the network tools either. Hard for me to paste a ifconfig since I'm on my laptop.I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (not dual booting).I did some updates this morning but it worked fine for a little while after that, until I tried to connect to my PS3.

On my dual-boot system (Windows XP 64-bit and Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit) I'm able to connect on Windows but not Ubuntu. I use the same files for each. I could access the internet no problem.I then ran the install, and fully formatted my HDD (i have 1 HDD for the OS and another for storage)It crashed halfway thorough, so no problem, i just re-formatted the hardrive and installed.However, It didnt connect to the internet, I literally tried every single forum looking for the solution, including editing the Network interface file.After a bit of diggingfound my user privileges did not allow me to connect to ethernet, and randomly use audio devices.SO, no problem I checked the boxes, but it still wont connect to the ethernet now, and it was fine before, tried re-installing twice with full format, but still doesnt work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Debian installed a year ago, working perfectly until last week when network card connected to internet stopped to communicate. I did no change in configuration. It just stopped to work while I was reading an online web page. Network card connected to local network still works fine.
I thought it might be a NIC failure so I installed a new PCI NIC but no change, still no communication throught this NIC.
I verified/changed cable between NIC and the router, no luck. If I connect the same cable from router to a Windows PC, everything is OK. If I connect back to Debian machine, it does not work.
I tried connect this NIC with a different router with DHCP enabled, nothing, NIC will not communicate with DHCP server.
I tried to set static IP, no change.
Today I booted a Knoppix 6.2 and this NIC worked perfetly! It set up using DHCP, I could access the internet.
I booted machine as usual and the problem still persists of course.
This is information captured immediately after boot. The trouble NIC is eth0 after boot finishes.
All this was captured with eth0 connect to a router with DHCP enabled. There is no DHCP entry in syslog related to eth0. Reinstall is the very last option.

My question is when I launch a connection, such as ping or visit a website with browser, which one connection the system uses or both of them? Can I manually specify one connection to use? How to do it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a very strange problem with Fedora 12 and my wireless Broadcom 4311 card.After the installation of Fedora 12 the wireless card was visible but not activated. I did an extensive search in Internet and finally I got everything done. The card was visible and activated. I found my home network; the strength of the signal was nearly 100%.The problem is that although the card is visible and activated my browser is not working well. I can say that it is not working at all. Even now I am using other computer to write this message because Firefox cannot load any web page at all.
The strange part of the problem comes with the fact that when I open terminal window and when I am using yum everything looks OK. The speed is very low though.Does anybody have some ideas about the problem and its solution?When I use Windows on the very same computer everything is fine, the Internet speed is close to the maximum limits of my provider's speed which is 10 mbps.
I have a dual boot (XP Pro and F13) laptop. This laptop has a Ralink RT2501USB Wireless Adapter which works perfectly fine on XP. But when it comes to F13, adapter only works properly when I am physically next to my router. When I move few feet away the strength of the connection drops from 100% to around 40%. But even though 40% should be okay for slow connection to internet, I can't get any internet access at all. I have tried three different routers with same results on each.
When I boot same machine with windows XP, all works fine. I can move to any part of my house and I will still have the connection without any issues.I can see that RT73 driver is installed if I check in add remove program under system.I am not an expert but to me its seems that the drivers on F13 for RT2501USB are not as good as on windows?
Fresh install of Fedora 14 from Live cd.Used it for an hour or so, d-loaded some programs, had ti all running great. Wired connection to internet. Had the Network Connection Manager icon in panel. There was an icon saying new updates, alot of them, like 400 or so. Told it to go ahead and up date, left room. Came back hour later was done, said it needed to re boot, so I did. From then on, no internet, not icon, no Network Connection in the drop down list for preferences.
What I have tried:Worked off live cd, again, all works fine, icon, manager, internet all there.In installed version: In terminal, typed service Network Manager, it said unrecognized service.Did yum install network manager. It started to do it, but looked like it was trying to get stuff off mirrors, and of course there is no internet access. error PYCURJ ERROR 6.Of course I can re install, but I figure I will just end up in the same place a few hours from now.
I recently installed ubuntu on my laptop and the wifi is horrible. The connection was very slow and dropped every 5 minutes or so. I have tried enabling the proprietary madwifi drivers - however then it wouldn't connect at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a cisco linksys wireless adapter (WUSB600n) which, most of the time, great when booting up. But mostly after some time (1min- 1hr.) it disconnects. When checking the status I can see some of the networks around me, including mine. But selecting it doesn't do anything. I searched the forums and tried:
sudo dhclient
and
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
But still no connection; the only thing that helps is rebooting.
I have a strange problem with my mobile broadband connection. I hope I am not the only one (so it will be fixed), but since I haven't found any others having the same problem yet, I am not so confident.I started using mobile broadband, via a HUAWEI E1762 HSPA USB stick since Jaunty. I've had the same problem in jaunty as I do now in Karmic. Although in Karmic, i've had additional problems (that problem i've found listed as a known bug).The problem is that when I get my mobile broadband to connect, it is sometimes, somehow, not fully connected. I somehow managed to find the network settings and it shows no connections, wired or wireless. When I log out and log back in with gnome, my wireless gets connected automatically.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx(great interface!). But I am experiencing a very weird problem. The wireless internet works just fine at my apartment. But when I am in my school, it just stops working at all. It didn't use to be like that. It used to work in school too few weeks before. But I don't know what happened all of a sudden. I have checked with my school system administrator to know if there has been any change with the network. He said the network has always been the same.

I managed to set up a PPTP VPN connection in Ubuntu 10.04, and it worked first time.This was about 3 months ago. It was working yesterday (Oct 05 2010), but when I came to log in to the VPN today it doesn't work. I tried the same VPN connection on my wife's laptop which runs Vista and it works. I have tried re-entering the details, even deleting and setting up from scratch via network manager. And yes I have the correct VPN plugins. what I should do. Is there a log file so I can have a look at it to see what the problem is. If there is where is it located. The computer is able to connect to the internet without any problems, just can't connect to the VPN. The only thing I can think of is that the update manager popped up this morning so a few things have got updated today. maybe something in there broke the VPN connection.

All networking worked fine on Lucid.
I am using an Acer Laptop with the Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter.
I can connect to my home network (visible, with WPA2-Personal) fine. However, I cannot connect to my university's wireless network. The only difference I noticed is that its network is using WPA2 Entreprise with Tunneled TLS Authentication and MSCHAPv2.
I tried dmesg and I got:
wlan0: authenticate with 00:1a:1e:ef:f4:e1 (try 1)
wlan0: authenticated
wlan0: associate with 00:1a:1e:ef:f4:e1 (try 1)

Unless the driver has changed, I suspect this is not a driver issue, since it worked fine on Lucid. Is this a NetworkManager issue?
