Networking :: Conga - Luci And Ricci : Two-Server Cluster - Load-Balance Achievable?

Mar 2, 2010

I came across this while trying to find a solution for my load-balancing clustering issue in another thread. Since I perceive this as something on its own, I decided to post a new thread. I came across this site to setup a two-server cluster using Conga - Luci and Ricci.

From my understanding, this is what was done:-

1. Both servers have luci running using a shared storage via GFS to provide a failover

2. Both (and same) servers have ricci agent running for the clustering

I'm aware that Conga clustering aim to achieve High-Availability.

1. Can it also achieve Load-Balancing?

2. If yes, would the guide from the link above be sufficient or would they be additional setup/pre-req to be done? Since I'm new to this area and there was no mention of load-balancing, I'm still wondering if this is what I need to incorporate.

Server :: Unable To Add "apache" Service To Conga - Red Hat Cluster

Jul 11, 2010

I am new to clustering. I have created this scenario on VMware Workstation after reading numerous links and videos.

Few of them are
[url]
[url]
[url]

Code:

I am using a shared GFS2 filesystem mounted on /data for this purpose which is from openfiler.

Code:

I am trying to create a HTTP cluster so that if in case of one node fails
- Shared partition (/data) in my case gets mounted on the other node
- Also, HTTP services can be started on the other node.

/data has the index.html file which is read by HTTP. Also, I have configured HTTP such that it only listens to 192.168.1.100 (shared IP) on port 80.

Code:

I have configured the cluster, service "sharedIP" which has IP 192.168.1.100; I took help of this doc.

Code:

Member Status: Quorate

I have tested the service sharedIP failover by powering off the machines one by one.

I used the below command for failover

Code:

Now, I need to try running apache from shared IP 192.168.1.100 which will fetch file from /data/index.html

I tried no. of times to configure service and resource for apache.

But somehow, it is not happening. My apache bin is /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start|stop

I have given such long info to help some other newbie. I will certainly write a HOW-TO for this.

CentOS 5 Server :: Configuring Piranha To Load Balance (Direct Route) 2 Ports

Feb 18, 2009

I seem to be having a strange problem configuring Piranha to load balance (Direct route) 2 ports across 2 w2k3 servers in a test environment. What is strange is that 1 of the ports are working fine but the other port doesn't work. I've read many how-to and after many frustrating hours I disabled the firewall, iptables and arptables services and one of the ports are load balanced across the 2 real servers. Here's the environment.

[Code]....

I can telnet from the client to the realserves on both ports and it's works. When I telnet to the VIP only one port gets through and the other gives me "could not open connection to host port 32777 : connect failed. The configuration in Piranha for one port is the same as the other. I can't help but think that some other configuration for port 32777 was missed.

Ubuntu Networking :: Load Balance Or Aggregate(combine) Internet Connections

May 12, 2010

My problem is that I would like to load balance or aggregate 2 separate Internet connections on my laptop. Currently a hard line ISP is not available so I'm using an Sierra Wireless 885 USB air card. Thing is the card is quite slow. I also can tether an iPhone to the laptop. The ideal solution would be to have both connections being utilized to help speed up the overall experience, even if it is only a modest gain in speed.

as I do not know much about iptables and basic TCP/IP routing, I'm finding it difficult to implement those solutions. If someone can point me in the right direction ( a slightly dumb down how:to? or better explained? )

BTW, both phone and aircard get dynamic IP's. Running Ubuntu 10.4

Software :: Traffic Load Balance Without Additional Hardware?

Mar 12, 2010

I have two Red Hat entreprise Linux 5 servers running the same applications, my goal is to load balance the incoming traffic between these two servers without adding an additional hardware as load balancer, the incoming traffic is basically Web traffic and on the servers, Apache and PHP are running. Red Hat solutions that I found are:

1- LVS
2- Piranha
3- Red Hat cluster suite.

Can LVS run on one of the real servers (or both servers, for redundancy issues) and load balance the traffic between its server and the other one? If yes, will LVS has a big impact on the CPU/memory usage? How can I estimate this usage if I know how much traffic is coming and the HW specs?

Can I install Red Hat cluster suite on these two servers, and configure it in a way that the virtual IP is on different server for different request (taking in consideration that the same session will be always served by the same server)? Finally, is there any other/better solution that can fit my requirements to load balance the traffic without additional hardware?

Fedora Servers :: How To Setup GFS2 Without Cluster Suite / How To Configure Cluster.conf

Nov 6, 2010

I am trying to build GFS2 cluster with 2 or 3 Fedora 14 nodes, but I've encountered some problems from the start. First luci does not work at all in Fedora 14. There is no luci_admin and even if I manage to start luci service, I get a blank white screen when I try to open it from the browser. I've googled a bit and found that I'd might be able to setup GFS if I manage to build cluster.conf manually and start the cluster suite, but I cannot find documentation on how to create cluster.conf anywhere. If anyone knows how to setup GFS2 without a cluster suite or how to configure cluster.conf.

Server :: LVM On 2 Node Cluster - Getting Error

Oct 26, 2010

I am having an issue with LVM on a 2 node cluster. We are using powerpath for external drives. We had a request to increase /apps filesystem which is EXT3.

On the first node we did:
pvcreate /dev/emcpowercx1 and /dev/emcpowercw2
Then....
vgextend apps_vg /dev/emcpowercw2 /dev/emcpowercx1
lvresize -L +60G /dev/apps_vg/apps_lv
resize2fs /dev/apps_vg/apps_lv
Everything went on well , we got the /apps increased. But on the second node when I do pvs.

I am getting following error:

CentOS 5 Server :: GFS With Little 'Cluster' As Possible / No CLVM

Mar 15, 2010

What I did not realize was, that DLM uses the external Ethernet Interface even when talking to the local machine/node. So iptables was blocking my DLM daemon. With iptables down or the TCP port for DLM opened, cman starts, mount works. What I have here is a fibrechannel SAN which will be directly attached to several servers in the near future. Thise servers should be enabled access to a single filesystem on the SAN (shared).I heard that the right filesystem choice for this kind of setup would be GFS, because it has a Distributed Lock Manager and one FS journal for each node.

But I am having trouble setting up GFS. I have managed to create a GFS on a small testvolume (local HDD so far), but am unable to mount it. It seems that GFS/DLM needs a lot of cluster services to run, which I do not all understand / know how to correctly setup. Also: Will the lock_dlm stuff need Ethernet communications to handle file locks? And if so, will it fetch the node list from /etc/cluster/cluster.conf to determine who to talk to?
