I recently purchased a block of 5 IPs from Comcast. I have a computer running Arch Linux connected to the Comcast gateway they gave me. On my connected computer I have 2 Windows XP virtual machines running. Now I was wondering how can I make each of those virtual machines have a different public IP, because currently the only thing I can get working is have the computer and both virtual machines sharing the same public IP.

iptables and multiple public-facing IP addresses. With the current setup I have a public-facing firewall with iptables which will then forward traffic to a LAN IP. I will hopefully be allotted 1 private IP per public IP, which I hope will make this much more simple. For example, I have server A with the LAN IP of 10.0.0.1 which I would like to have traffic forwarded from 5.0.0.1, the public IP. I also have server B with LAN IP of 10.0.0.2 which I would like to have forwarded from 5.0.0.2, the second public IP. From what I have read and understood, this should be a simple task, however I would just like to double check to make sure that it is in fact possible, and if so, how would it be recommended that I go about doing so. Essentially, I need to forward each public IP to a corresponding LAN IP with all ports.

We have a new Bussiness DSL line with 16 public addresses. What we want is to setup a DMZ to run some services and internet to the LAN. Here's a schematic of what we want:
Code:
Backup Internet Main Internet
connection connection
| |
| |
SDSL Modem BDSL Modem
[code]....
The webserver has the following settings:
IP: 12.34.56.125
subnet: 255.255.255.240
gateway: 12.34.56.126
What IPTABLES rules do i need to setup to "see" all IP's in the DMZ-2 from the internet?

We have a requirement to configure multiple email gateways, for mail accounts configured on linux server. the application will trigger mails (bulk mails) and we would like to configure multiple email gateway to be used.
we decided to do it this way.
In dns we would create MX records like
yourdomain.com. 3600 IN MX 20 realmailserver1.yourdomain.com.
yourdomain.com. 3600 IN MX 20 realmailserver2.yourdomain.com.
where realmailserver1.yourdomain.com. and realmailserver2.yourdomain.com. will be our email gateway.
and internally on our linux server (from which mail is sent) if i specify multiple smart hosts like
define(`SMART_HOST',`esmtp:realmailserver1:realmailserver2')dnl

I want to use my personal computer remotely. The problem is my computer is connected to a local network that I can't modify. I can connect from my computer to another one that has public IP via ssh. Is it possible to login to the "proxy" computer from somewhere and somehow use the connection established before to connect to my PC?

My Ubuntu server is now providing routing duties to my network, but I'm having trouble opening ports to my network. I have a DynDNS account, so the IP is always current, but I can't ping even my IP directly.
My network map looks like
Internet > SpeedTouch DSL modem with DHCP > eth1 > Ubuntu > eth0 > LAN
With the modem providing a 192.168.1.xx IP to eth1, I can browse fine. The default gateway is my modem. I switched to the public IP of the modem so I could use iptables for firewall duties, but I was locked out of the internet. No gateway was set when I did that, but eth1 received the public IP of my modem.
How can I use the public IP assigned to eth1?

I have two nagging problems on one network which I do not have on another elsewhere, both using uptodate Debian servers. The server is on the private subnet behind a router/adsl modem. The symptoms of the one which does not work
1) Users cannot access their web site from lan. If they try, they get to the router web interface, same as if they entered http:10.0.0.138 which is the router's lan address.
2) Users cannot access smtp or pop3 service using the domain name, they can access it only using the servers LAN address.
I fear that I might have not set up the router properly because appart from that the two servers are almost identical but I do not know where I might have made an error.

I'm sure this is possible... I'm just not sure how. Yet! I have three machines. One is at home behind my firewall and has a dynamic IP. That's fine as I don't really want to open any ports on my home firewall. The second is at work sitting behind the firewall there- and I'm not even going to ask for approval to NAT an IP to my PC at work :-).
The third is in a data center far away. I only have a shell account on this server but other than that shell account not being root, I can do most anything I like with that account. What I would like to do is SSH to this server simultaneously from my home and work PCs and, via this third machine, make them talk.
This is pure geekery so it doesn't matter what they say to each other; I just want to make them talk. Maybe one uploads a file and the other just pulls down that file. Maybe one opens a FIFO on the remote server and starts writing to it while the other starts snarfing that data. In fact, I like this latter idea best, I think. How would you do it? What scripts (fired by cron if need be since I'm ostensibly away from at least one of the PCs at any given time) would you use?

I would like to set up an ubuntu server to forward outside requests directed to different domains to different computers on my local network. The bind is I only have ONE public IP.
Here's an example of what I want to do.
- if a request is sent to www.first-domain.com, I want to forward it to a local server (say 192.168.0.10)
- if a request is sent to www.second-domain.com, I want to forward it to a local server (say 192.168.0.20)
and so on...
I will need to forward these requests not only for web sites but for other services such as SSH, mail, RDP, VNC, etc etc PS Once it hits those local servers, I know how to use iptables to forward them as desired.

I am using Debian 4 bigmem and I set up static ip for my box. This is for a class and we will be moving the hard drives around the lab to different computers. My question is what do I configure to get Debian to be ok with my using different nics at different times. My first time I used it, I had eth0, but now I'm on a different computer (same type of hardware on all systems) but my nic is now eth1... And I had to set up static again for that nic. How can I have it just maintain a static ip for whatever nic/mac address on the computer that my hard drive happens to be put on?

I'm trying to give some windows users a permanent connection to a samba share behind a firewall over the public Internet. I know I can give them access with something like winscp (which they have done) but really I'd like to do it with a VPN so it seems seamless to the user. However I have no idea how to set up the server to support this and am finding the documentation a bit confusing. The samba share is on a Debian box and the firwewall is a Linksys WRT54GL.

At the moment we have one SSH server with the private key being on a usb flash drive, and the public key being on the server in authorized_keys2. Now that three more servers are coming online, should we generate new keys, so we have muliple private and public keys (one pair for each server), or use the same two keys to access all the servers

I configured ssh on one of my servers to require public/private key authentication and deny access to login requests not using a public/private key. Now I need to unconfigure that, but I can't remember how I did it. I've looked through ssh_config and sshd_config, and nothing rings a bell. Googling only tells me how to enable public/private key authentication, not how to require it or stop requiring it.

host is windows 2003 server 64-bit
guest is ubuntu 9.04 server 64bit
Qemu : 0.11.1
Qemu manager: 7.0
from Qemu manager, if network card is using User Networking, it's a NAT and I can see that Guest Ubuntu has an ip address 10.0.2.15 and is able to access the internet. However, as Guest ubuntu is running server so I want to do use Tap networking and I assue with Tap, the Guest ubuntu will get an ip address which is in the same subnet as host machine by dhcp. so from Qemu Manager 7.0, I changed Network card to be:
NE2000PCI
Vlan Number =0
VLAN Type: Tap Networking
Mac address: tap0's mac address from host
TAP Network Adpator: Tap0
Note that tap0 was created by openvpn. and then fired Ubuntu guest, ifconfig shows no ip address on eth0 (which has the same mac address as Tap0) so the guest Ubuntu has no ip address and can't access public.

Two exchange servers internally. One is setup for example.com (192.168.1.10) and the other is setup for example2.com (192.168.1.20) Both are behind a single public IP.
I want to use postfix to sit in front of the two exchange servers. Postfix will accept mail for both domains and relay to the appropriate server. I have postfix installed with only defaults at this point.

I've got a machine running Ubuntu Server that is on several VLANs. Each VLAN has its own subnet and the server has an address on each subnet. The switches are set to allow tagged traffic to the server for each VLAN that it is on. Switch ports ending with workstations are given untagged ports on whatever VLAN is appropriate. Workstations are given addresses on a subnet for each VLAN via DHCP. All this works great and hosts on any subnet/VLAN can access the server as normal via its address on that subnet/VLAN.
Accessing the machine by its address on a non-local subnet is where I run into a problem. Inter-subnet traffic has to go through a router, which has been set up appropriately. Running tcpdump on the server and pinging it from a workstation on a subnet, using its address on a different subnet, shows the server receives the ping, but sends no response:
Code:
sudo tcpdump -i vlan4 -n
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode
[code]...

I'm trying to write a p2p file sharing program using python's built-in libraries. Everything is going well. The only thing is that i'd like to be able to use openssl public and private keys so only a host with the public key could access/decrypt the filesharing. I've gotten these libraries (httplib, basehttpserver, ssl, os) to work using just a pem file containing both the public and private keys but no success with them seperately. Can someone point me in the right direction or offer an alternative? PS, the goal of the project is to create an anonymous, decentralized, secure file sharing program. I want to be able to upload this to sourceforge so everyone can use it, if that's any incentive

I run the following file with the >log.log redirector and it does not capture errors.
#!/bin/bash
echo ************************BEGIN LOG******************************
date +"%m/%d/%Y %H:%M:%S $HOSTNAME"
cp -f /scripts/original/clamscans.log /scripts
[code]....
The following errors show up when I run from the file from the term window, but are not written to log.log:
tar: /public/public/clamscans/*.txt: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
mv: cannot stat `/public/public/clamscans/*.txt': No such file or directory
I know with windows you can add the 2>&1 to capture error data. Is there such a thing for Linux?

ENV: openssh-server-5.4p1-1.fc13.i686 Problem: I am unable to ssh using Putty (when using ssh-auth/pki) to a fedora box . I get the message: Server refused our key. Here's what I tried so far:
- Tried generating rsa (as well as dsa) keys on the linux server and put the generated public key in the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys. Then I converted the private key using PuttyGen.
- Also, tried generating keys using PuttyGen and then converted the public key and placed it on the server
- Configured the sshd server (ssh_config) for using RSAAuthentication=yes. Tried all combinations and purmutations; however, I still get the "Server refused our key" error.
