ive made a slight mistake on my Ubuntu 9.10 64bit. I was trying to get Voodoo Motion Tracking software to work, and it was having trouble locating some Qt Libs, so I decided it was a good idea to move its included libs into /user/lib32 directory. Voodoo now works, but Skype instead comes up with:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and was looking for software to mix mp3's. I want to try mixxx (found here) I installed the most recent package by using the ppa of the project (as described here) Install seems to be ok (no error messages)But when I try to run mixxx from the menu nothing happens. Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error

I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. When I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.

I have a problem with my external hdd, I mounted it manually and in the mount table it says ive got rw permissions. But when i try to change permissions it says:
chmod: changing permissions of `whatever': read-only filesystem.

but it doesn't show me the names of the files that printed.
Is there a way to set a retention policy to have it hold the job in the queue even after it's finished printing? Or a command to view the details of jobs that have already run? I'm looking for something similar to the output of the lpq command.
I dual boot winxp and fedora. Though i can view ntfs partitions using fedora, windows doesnt recognize ext3fs partitions.

Google tells me that it is know problem (523800 in RedHat, 592035 in Debian) and it has even been fixed last year. But what can I do if I wouldn't like to compile X myself? I then installed a new version of Ubuntu 10.04 from disk and copied the files in /home from the cd to the hard. I am able to open, view etc. all the files in most directories except those in /home/documents. There are text files created by gedit, OOWP and several PDF files. I cannot open or view these files, depending: gedit and pdf files gets a Err.Msg. "Don't recognize file type" (it is clearly marked PDF) . The OO files look like rows of 'high bits' and a dialogue box opens giving me the options to change Char. Set, Font, Language, Paragraph break.
Is there a way to view all the crontab files, owned by root, users, and other system accounts, that exist on a system simultaneously rather than having to go the individual accounts? The distribution in question here is the Debian 4.0 release.

How do you get the count of old passwords associated with users? I don't need to see their passwords just how many times they have changed them. I have set remember to 24 in the /etc/pam.d/system-auth file. I don't know where the file is that contains this information.

So in the GRUB at start i have choosen Linux - recovery mode, to see what options that gave me, and i tried FailSafe mode, but i get an error and it just goes back to the recovery menu. My question is how do i get to the terminal style screen as its too quick for me to see the error, and i cant photograph it as its too fast. i cant see it being an issue with the graphics because of the properly displayed kubuntu loading screen beforehand
I'm working with Terminal (Mac OS X), but I think this is a built-in part of Linux. Sometimes, when I execute a command, Terminal returns a new, indented line with just -> on the line. It seems like it's waiting for something, but I don't know if it requires action on my part or not. Pressing enter simply returns another, identical line. When I Ctrl + C, it says Aborted, meaning something was clearly processing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLinux Mint Debian Edition x64 is installed and running quite nicely. But as most 64bit users know, you have to take care of the 32bit libraries in order to run alot of software....well, only if you need to run 32bit software.
So, in practice, the first steps are to install ia32-libs and ia32-libs-gtk. That's the foundation. But sometimes that isn't enough....so, depending on your application, you have to discover it's dependencies....via 'ldd'.
For whichever libraries are required, I head over to the Debian 'testing' respository (which LMDE is based off) and search. So after satisfying the dependencies it should be good....take the following as example:

So from some research, this indicates an issue with a date stamp/version conflict...if this is incorrect, ...this is part of the learning process.
Anyway, this error occurs with other 32bit software i'm trying to run.
The strange thing, though, is that i've done a fresh install of LMDE and ran the same process of setting up the 32bit libs as I did before....but this time I get this error.
