Software :: Running MPlayer DVDnav Option From Command Line?
Jun 27, 2010I am having a problem with running the mplayer dvdnav option from the command line or terminal. I run the command and this is what I get:
mplayer -nocache dvdnav://1 /media/CDROM /dev/scd1

mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory

File not found: '/media/CDROM'
Failed to open /media/CDROM .....
I went on the forums and they say that some of the packages built to support dvdnav are out of date and that they should be updated. By the way I am running ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx with lxde as my desktop manager.

mplayer started but then was looking for broken file names. I am thinking quoting has to do with it to preserve the filename as one string but different attempts were met with inroads:

I just installed the JDK, SDK, Eclipse successfully (or I assume):
* When I get to Step 4 where I'm supposed to run 'android' it will not run. I get the error message "android: command not found" (I am definitely in the right directory).
** When I double-click it in nautilus, it opens up in gedit. I can set the permissions in nautilus (through the properties - Allow executing file as a program) and get it to work,

Feb 3, 2011I'm writing a script that performs backups from partitions on remote servers. I used to do this with ssh, but that seems to be somewhat slow, so I switched to netcat.I start a listener on the receiving server (which runs the script) like this:netcat -l -p 7000 | dd of=imagefile &and then I make the remote and start a dd piped to netcat. This works quite well started manually and the listener is waiting in the background. However, when I have cron run the same script to automate it, the netcat listener is not started, probably because the "&" thing does not work (or there is something with the piping that behaves differently then)

In the second call I thought it should work in the same way, but the script sleeps 30 seconds before it prints "endfunction".Does someone know the reason of this behavior? I think my usage of mplayer in the terminal is correct, since I can watch other URL's.It's only this specific one that doesn't work (I am not authorized to write the URL because they want it to be private.So my question is: Does anyone know why I get this loop? Or is it possible to see how mplayer is called by gnome-mplayer and what output messages it generates?I use gnome-mplayer 0.9.9.2 and mplayer 1.0rc4-4.4.5 on Ubuntu 10.10.

So, I wrote init 3 in the command line then the x server stopped and the system was trying to enter run level 3 but then it hangs and nothing happens. Feb 22, 2010I typed in sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop and it tells me it's already installed. Good. So it should work. I type sudo/etc/init.d/gdm start and the screen goes blank for 8 seconds three times in a row and then back to the command line. I have also tried gdm start without the path before and it says GDM already running. Aborting! I have 8.10 and it's a valid disk (no errors).
