View 2 RepliesI have a couple of large-format printers (Epson R2400, HP 9650) which I only use infrequently. If they are not used very often, they dry out, the print heads get packed up, it's an expensive mess to deal with when times comes to run off some prints. The printers are physically connected to a Windows machine to which my Ubuntu computer is networked.It would be helpful if there was a utility that could initiate a test page print job on the machines, which could be scheduled to run once a week or so. I've had no luck finding such a thing for Windows

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have problem with compiling server... I finish ./configure without any problem, and now, when I write make, I see that: Quote: Makefile:360: *** missing separator. Stop. I read something, and know, that error shows when there are problem with spaces. And I should use there a tab. On line 360 I have:
Code: @AMDEP_TRUE@@am__include@ @am__quote@./$(DEPDIR)/account.Po@am__quote@ I try to change this one space inside to tab, but that doesnt work for me... Terminal always show error in the same line.
I am trying to understand the join command. I wish to join two files:
Code:
$ cat test1
a 0
b 2.51
c 19.85
$ cat test2
a 0
b 2.51

this is great but I do not understand why join ignores the -e flag and fails to insert FOO in the empty field.
I wrote a hack script that outputs the following every so often: Code: 01/04/11 10:33:02: 97,1413,1447,2860 I must leave the data format the same --but I want a special number from it. In this case it's 97 and it's always going to be the first in the 4 columns of comma delimited items. I can extract with this:
Code: cat datafile | awk -F" " {'print $3'} | awk -F"," {'print $1'} But that's really sloppy. Can someone point out a better way of doing this (with awk) and tell me why?
I have a file1:

I'm trying to use awk to remove rows that are duplicates based on 3 fields, and I want to keep the on that has the higher value in another field. I'm working in C-Shell. For example the below is greped out of a larger data set to use in here as example:
Input (Field separator is a comma:
Code:
4180,-6999,MA,BARNSTABLE,BOURNE,1,1.7,1700,PM,1/26
4180,-6999,MA,BARNSTABLE,BOURNE,1,3.5,2025,PM,1/26

I'm writing a script that picks out the time offset in a string, but am trying to figure out a way to print a field based on a match (likely needs to be regex).
Here are some sample fields:
09.900. Either add -12:-1: 0 to existing offset, or restart the slicer with no offset or with offset=00
09.900. Either add -12:-1:30 to existing offset, or restart the slicer with no offset or with offset=00
09.900. Either add -10: 0:-47 to existing offset, or restart the slicer with no offset or with offset=00
What I need would be "-12:-1: 0" from the first line, for example. I was just using "awk '{print $4}'" originally but because of the damn space in the 1st and 3rd lines by the 0, that doesn't work for me. How to grab those fields correctly for all cases?
I'm looking for a way to dynamically modify a fied in the SQL file.
Example,
INSERT INTO `TABLE` VALUES(1AADFDF,DFF33D,10023,SOMEDATA, SOMEDATA);
INSERT INTO `TABLE` VALUES(1AADFDF,DFF33D,10098,SOMEDATA, SOMEDATA);
[code]....
The third field in this SQL file is what needs to change to n+1
"10023" needs to change to "1"
"10098" needs to change to "2"
"10123" needs to change to "3"
"10983" needs to change to "4"
etc...
I tried with awk and sed, but since both require the usage of ' (single quote), my variable fails to get updated. I know i can use cut and recreate the sql statememnt, but i believe there should be easier way using sed or awk. Would anyone know of any creative way to get this to work in one-liner? This needs to be a part of the script preferable without making call to external file.
I have a couple of MP3s that have duplicate fields in their ID3 tags. Let me show you what I mean: This is causing problems with some media players. Is there a tool that can automatically fix these MP3s in batch? I'd prefer a free Windows or Linux program. I'm not afraid to work on the command line if necessary.

I am trying to remove the space between the 2nd and 3rd fields but just cannot work out how to do it. I've considered sed, cut, awk...I know with sed you can replace all instances within a file but can you also specify to remove, say, the 2nd instance of a space in each line (this would be perfect for me)?

How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.
I am unable to write a simple Makefile. Though I know the concept am facing this error:

I tried to find out how awk works with multiline strings. I found this. I hope it will be useful for somebody. 1. I know that awk can searches simple patterns like '/^one/'
Code:
s="one
two
three"
echo $s | awk '/^one/'
2. I know that "Awk can handle multiline records by specifying the field separator to be a newline and set the record separator to an empty string." I've found it here

View 1 Replies View RelatedSearching Google on how to join/merge many mp3 files, it suggests that I should just cat them together.That might "work", but clearly it is not the correct way to do it, as each header and set of IDv3 tags will also be concatenated.Does a Linux program exist that can be scripted to join/merge many mp3?Can mplayer/mencoder/ffmpeg do it?

How do you join multiple MP3 files into one? "cat" and "mp3wrap" are no good as they produce non standard MP3 files. I know I can use audacity, but when you have 1000's of MP3 files to join into one, it takes too long.

Try `join --help' for more information.... I went to the man pages but I still (obvious) do not have a solid grasp.

We've been running samba on linux for a while and everything was fine. All of a sudden when you add new clients to the domain you get the error message :Logon Failure:unknown user name or bad password. This to me seems like a windows error message and not a samba error. When you remove an existing machine (ie on domain) and then try to rejoin it to the domain you fail.
