I am new to this forum and to Networking as well. I have chosen to implement:

1) SIP Client using C' language
2) Platform: Windows
3)Its going to be on command line

my problem is that I need some reference like books, material or website where I can learn how to write the code from scratch or port the code according to my requirements. My implementation should serve the purpose like two SIP clients should communicate with each other for exchange of Audio data.

General :: Find No Way Of Choosing Whether Linear Or Striped?

Feb 19, 2010

I have two drives (sde 120Gb) and sdh(250Gb) which I want to use for the following setup: sde + 120Gb of sdh as a striped LVM as an ext4 partition remaining 130Gb of sdh as a separate ext4 partition I am able to use the build in partition manager in Mandriva to set up the rest of my disks and I can set up an LVM as planned above, but I find no way of choosing whether it should be linear or striped. This means I will most likely have to do it from the command line. Can someone tell correct commands to set it up?

(i am french and wanted a light netbook with french keyboard)i am totally new to linux and i believe that msi wind is not helping.because i am more used to english for settings, i set the main language to english, but it seems that it automatically reconfigures my keyboard mapping to english as well, so that azerty becomes qwerty.i reset it back to french, so now my keyboard is french, but so is the system.is there a way to differentiate keyboard from main user setting language?

Software :: SHA1-Hashing Differs When Writing To A File?

Mar 9, 2011

it is about the program sha1sum to create SHA1-hashes. As you probably know, SHA1-Hashes do have the length 20 byte. So when I just type:

Code:
sha1sum myfile

it produces an output of

Code:
(some20byte) myfile

just as it should. Now I want to store the 20byte hash in another file, I use this command:

Code:
sha1sum myfile | awk "{print $1}" >> myhash

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with awk, but this should cut off the end of the sha1sum output, which is the name of the file again. The problem here is: The newly created file myhash has the size 41 bytes, and printing it out I can see that it is not the original hash (I wrote a little program to print it bytewise).

General :: Web Panel To Manage Iptables And Tc / Secure Implementation Of Changes

Mar 19, 2010

Subject of my school work:"Web interface for managing firewall and band on the access server (Linux)"I have a big problem because I do not know how to safely implement the change in the system and show the logs on the Web page.Unfortunately, the number of solutions for today is enormous and it is increasingly difficult to me to decide on the right. They are:

1. Launching a web server with root privileges (the default mode of miniserv'a Webmin)
2. CGI scripts on apache SUID (mode webmin on "foreign" server)
3. suPHP or suexec
4. Cron implements changes to the root
5. Daemon in C "periodically" implement changes in the configuration files created by PHP
6. Daemon in C to implement the changes requested in the configuration files created by PHP
7.Use SSH in PHP and after logging into the root of execution of commands in the configuration files created by PHP (the root password in the DB)
8.Use SSH in PHP and after logging into the root of execution of commands in the configuration files created by PHP (the root password, enter manually)
9. Like the above so that the use of sudo and user rights only to the necessary shell commands
10. Add the user apache in the /etc/sudoers can perform all the necessary applications shell commands
11. Seize the opportunity to command: shell_exec ( `sudo php-f / home /example/script.php`), and /etc/sudoers

Ubuntu :: Support For Language While Keeping English As Language Used To Display Desktop?

Mar 5, 2011

I have some music in another language, but when I open the songs in Banshee, their song names just come up as weird characters (like μ).I went to [System --> Administration --> Language Support] and installed support for that language, but the songs still come up like μ. (But in Nautilus, their proper names show).

I know the solution is to change my whole system language to that language, but I don't want to do that, as I am not very fluent in it. Is there any way to enable support for that language while keeping English as the language used to display my desktop?

I've rebuilt latest stable kernel (2.6.37.2) with all the PCMCIA options turned on or built as modules. I've got an SRAM card, a CompactFlash Card (in a CF to PC-Card adapter) and the Linear Flash card to try, the SRAM card I'm not expecting greatness from, but hoping to prove that the slot works (it registers, but doesn't get much reported from lspcmcia). The CF card in the adapter works. I'm expecting to see a block device in /dev but nothing appears lspci:

Networking :: NETFILTER And Extraction Of Data From Non Linear Area Of Skbuff

Feb 25, 2011

i am writing a netfilter module for linux 2.6.34.6-47 / 2.6.35. while i could capture the packets on the incoming hook since the same came as a single packet in probably the allocated skbuff area by the stack, i found that packets going out of the machine are getting splitted into linear and non-linear area. skb->data gives the total length of packet as correct, but when i extract skb-> data to print it, it prints only ip and tcp header. Now to treat the data i need to extract it and then push it back on the route.

To clarify if my data is 3 bytes . the total length by passing pointers show as 55 bytes = ( 52 byte of header + 3 byte of data), but i can't access these 3 bytes by using skb->tail - skb->data. how to extract outgoing data for any further action and then put it back on route for further encapsulation by the L2 stack or whatever. will skb_linearize() or skb_linearize_cow() be of any use , if yes how and why?

Software :: Mdadm 2.6.4 - Adding Disk To Running Linear Array

Jan 31, 2010

I am using mdadm 2.6.4 for managing RAIDs on Linux kernel 2.6.18. I've a query like whenever I tried to add a new disk to a running linear array(JBOD)i get a message "cannot add new disk to this array".

The exact steps are as follows:
create a new array as:
mdadm -C /dev/md0 -llinear -n2 /dev/sata/ /dev/sata2
It is getting added and i am able to see with -D command.

Now add a new disk sata3 as follows:
mdadm --grow /dev/md0 --add /dev/sata3 I get the output as:
md: sdb has invalid sb, not importing!
md: md_import_device returned -22
mdadm: cannot add new disk to this array.

So my first doubt is whether mdadm 2.6.4 supports this features or not if it supports then do I need to change the driver?

Programming :: Hashing The Components Of An Tcp Session To Assign/locate The Session In A Hash Table Bucket?

Nov 10, 2010

I have a very bad attempt at hashing the components of an tcp session to assign/locate the session in a hash table bucket. I am pretty sure that it has a very high collision rate and when there are a very large number of tcp sessions my application is having to search a long linked list to find the session within the bucket.

All the hashing functions I have found take a single string input where I need to input several integers and hash them into a single result. My guess is that any real hashing function is going to produce better results than what I am currently doing.

Programming :: MD5 Algorithm Implementation

Apr 27, 2011

I have a copy of the MD5 algorithm and I'm taking a look at the source. It's pretty interesting but there are a few things that I'm curious about and I was wondering if anyone a bit more intuitive than I could help me out.The function declarations in the MD5 files are a bit unfamiliar to me. There is a macro used called PROTO_LIST, which I'm still not sure as to what this thing is doing exactly, but it's littered everywhere throughout the source. The signature here isn't too unfamiliar to me with the exception of the position of the PROTO_LIST macro. So here is a function with an unnamed argument of type MD5_CTX*.To me, this resembles an initializer list found in C++ with constructors but I certainly don't think that is the case here. So my questions about this are (1) how is this legal code in C and (2) what functionality has the PROTO_LIST macro provided for the function?

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Use IPtables For Different NAT Implementation

May 6, 2010

IPtables, implementing each type of NAT
-Full Cone NAT
-Restricted Cone NAT
-Port Restricted Cone NAT
-Symmetric NAT
using IPTables.

Explanation:
Full Cone: A full cone NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port are mapped to the same external IP address and port. Furthermore, any external host can send a packet to the internal host, by sending a packet to the mapped external address.

Restricted Cone: A restricted cone NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port are mapped to the same external IP address and port. Unlike a full cone NAT, an external host (with IP address X) can send a packet to the internal host only if the internal host had previously sent a packet to IP address X.

Port Restricted Cone: A port restricted cone NAT is like a restricted cone NAT, but the restriction includes port numbers. Specifically, an external host can send a packet, with source IP address X and source port P, to the internal host only if the internal host had previously sent a packet to IP address X and port P.

Symmetric: A symmetric NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port, to a specific destination IP address and port, are mapped to the same external IP address and port. If the same host sends a packet with the same source address and port, but to a different destination, a different mapping is used. Furthermore, only the external host that receives a packet can send a UDP packet back to the internal host.

On the netfilter mailinglist, Pedro Goncalves suggested the following:
192.168.2.170 is "public" address and 10.0.0.1 is "private" address

/-"Full Cone NAT", with the following rules:/

HTML Code:
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j SNAT --to-source 192.168.2.170
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -j DNAT --to-destination 10.0.0.1

/-"Port Restricted Cone NAT", with just a single rule:/

HTML Code:
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j SNAT --to-source 192.168.2.170

Networking :: Practive For Implementation Of A Failover Server?

Jan 20, 2011

I'm in need of some advise from you guys. I'm currently running a live production serverA, and last week it went down for a couple of hours which was really bad to say the least.

I've been thinking about building a mirror serverB that will rsync my data nightly. Now I don't want to load balance here, I just need to be able to switch to serverB when serverA goes down for any reason.

Would the best solution for this is to change my main nameserver entry when I want to switch ? I'm just curious if it will be a few hours or an instant change.

I thought I'd ask before attempting this live.

Programming :: Proper Implementation Of POSIX Threads

Apr 6, 2011

I've implemented a program URL... which reads digital IF data from a radio receiver through a named pipe, measures power levels, and sends the result to stdout. The program is interactive; there is a thread that reads from stdin to watch for commands, a thread that constantly either reads data from the named pipe or throws data away, and an array of processing threads. The program uses GTK+extra to plot the signals. The IF data stream bandwidth exists at the limits of today's technology (is very very fast).

Problem Statement:The program works fine with a few bugs. I've learned since I've made it that using global state variables to coordinate threads isn't a good way of doing it. I also only had knowledge of mutexes and polled the state variable instead of using other methods. My reimplementation will use the following:

- One "Stdin Command Monitoring" thread
- One "Get data from named pipe" thread
- One post-processor thread
- N Processing threads

All threads are alive during the life of main()There are N buffers. Data will come in from the named pipe, and the "Get data" thread will write the data to an "available" buffer. When the buffer is full it will be marked as "full". There will be N processing threads, one for each buffer. When a processing threads' buffer is full, it will process the buffer and save the result to a final buffer. At the end of a number of averages, the post-processor thread will perform a final process on the final buffer and send the results to stdout.
