OpenSUSE Install :: Many Processes Enter In Disk Sleep Mode And Stops
Feb 18, 2010Many processes enter in disk sleep mode and stops (Hang) and return to work after 10 to 20 seconds.
In System Monitor i get "Disk Sleep" like this:
My PC specifications:
Ram: 4GB
Hard Disk: 1024GB
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2
Display: ATI HD 4670
Motherbord: Gigabyte
System: openSUSE 11.2 x86_64
The problem still exists after system update and i try run other distributions like kubuntu and i don't get this error. I also change Hard Disk but the problem is still ongoing.

Mar 31, 2010I have to questions: I am new with Linux and using ubuntu on my laptop computer. when i reopen my leptops cover after i closed it, meaning - putting computer to sleep, every thing is working, but the screen is black and nothing is seen. No matter what i tried to do, i cant make it to "wake up".
Using the computers battery, with no electric supply, the battery time is only half of what i get when using windows. i tried using less lumination but it didnt seem to help.

Jun 14, 2011In interactive mode (in Octave, gnuplot, R, etc.) I occasionally press Control + z by mistake. This pauses the program and kicks me back to the terminal.Is it possible to re-enter the original interactive mode (with all the stored variables)?

General :: Display With No Signals And Go In Sleep Mode After Update
Jan 24, 2010Linux downloaded new updates and worked perfectly. Next time I started mint, just before the login screen appears display says No Signal and goes in sleep mode. I think that mint downloaded somekind of display driver update wich is not compatible with my driver card. I can't see desktop, I just hear the login sound and that's all. What should I do? I'm new with linux.

May 26, 2011I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on an IBM ThinkPad t43. I have a 9 volt battery that I use only occasionally. Usually I use the AC connection and when I'm finished working I leave the laptop in "sleep" mode. (Not always, but often.) When using the AC is it okay to leave the battery in the computer or is it better to remove it? Some swear it shortens the battery's life to leave it installed when not in use. Others swear--with equal fervor--that the newer ion batteries know when they are fully charged and don't have to be removed. Which is true? It's inconvenient to keep taking the battery in and out, but if it's necessary to prolong it's life I guess it's worth it. Some clarity good because, as I said, you can find equally impassioned arguments for both sides of this issue.

May 5, 2011I broke sudo when I wrongly edited a file in /etc/sudoers.d in vi(did not use visudo :-().I read that I could fix the same by rebooting into the 'Recovery Mode' by selecting the same from the grub menu.
However I'd earlier disabled the showing of the grub menu by editing /etc/default/grub. As a result I can't seem to go into recovery mode to fix my broken sudo.

Jul 13, 2011I followed instructions to enter single user mode by adding single at the end of kernel line but after that it doesn't ask for root password but brings up the sh# prompt. Isn't that supposed to be insecure? I understand for this the grub password can be applied but even after adding "single" it should ask for root password..or it should not..??

Apr 13, 2011Asus u43f wont go into sleep/suspend mode. Either manually from the shut down menu or by closing the lid. the screen will turn off but the various lights do not turn of and hard drive continue to spin.
I found this suggested test with a google search but no fix

Mar 31, 2011I messed up my video drivers and now can't get into recovery mode. Pressing the shift key isn't working. All that happens is the splash screen appears in faded looking colors and then fades to white.
I've got an ASUS N61 laptop with an ATI Radeon 5730 graphics card. I just upgraded to 10.10 from 10.4 and was trying to install the open source video drivers. I must have messed something up and can't get to the terminal now.

Reopening the lid and will see a screensaver password screen immediately.
Does this means that the laptop does not have Sleep (or is it called hibernate) mode enable? How can I enable it?
This also happens with Debian that this laptop is dual booted with.

Two issues:

Jun 11, 2010Succeeded in connecting to internet using my wll phone. I can now connect using 'wvdial' command in root terminal. But I want to connect through terminal. I tried 'sudo wvdial' command. Then I am asked for my password. But I cannot type my password there. When I type, nothing appears on the terminal window. Ofcourse there's no problem with my keyboard.
