General :: Any Way To Change Actual File Names Using Amarok?

Jan 9, 2010

I use amarok 2 and I have a lot of files that are titled "Track #.mp3", in Amarok I have changed them to see as the real songs but the actual files are still the same. Is there a way to change the actual file names using amarok to match the tags I have inside of amarok? The reason why I'd want to do this:

1. If my home folder becomes corrupt I don't have to redo 100's of songs (I have a backup but none the less
2. If I ever decide to use another program or if I'm in W7 using Windows Media Player classic it'd be nice to have it recognize the correct files without having to double up on the tag editing

If this isn't possible I'm going to wishlist it because I think it's functional and having a bunch of Track# files is a pain but impossible to get around when you have a lot of mix cd's.

Server :: Samba Share File/folder Names Ending In Period?

Aug 31, 2010

On one of my Samba shares on my server I have a folder of mp3 files of my CDs. The one I am having an issue with is "Clarence Carter/Dr. C.C." (yes, the one with the ULTIMATE party song). The "Dr. C.C." folder name is normal locally on the server, but across Samba it comes out "DMOU3A~H". It's definitely Samba doing it, because I get the same result whether accessing the share from Linux or Windoze. I can still access the folder this way, but it would be nice to not have Samba mangle the folder name this way. I am using Samba 3.4.2 on an Athlon64 X2 system running Slackware64.

General :: Linpus Lite - Change File / Folder Permissions?

Aug 19, 2010

I own an Acer Aspire One which has Linpus Lite installed. Last night I attempted to delete a couple of files only to find they are read only and that I cannot change the permissions by right clicking and changing the drop down menu from read only.

These aren't protected files or anything, they are files I've downloaded or created myself (one using the onboard web cam to test it).

I attempted to play with Terminal for a bit but as a newbie I got easily lost, not like I can fall back on command prompt knowledge from Windows!

I think it's somehow connected with the user which accesses these docs or tries to change the permissions. I also tried with an su- which meant I was using Terminal as root, however, I wasn't sure how I could then set the permissions for a particular file/folder within the file system.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Change File Names To Remove Invalid Character

Apr 1, 2009

I am trying to copy a large number of files from a Linux server to a Windows file share. Unfortunately, all of the files and folders I have to copy have 10 numbers followed by 2 colons "::" in the name (example: 1234567890::WordDoc.doc) which of course is invalid in windows naming conventions. So now I'm trying to come up with a way to change the file and folder names on the fly to replace the colons with a dash "-" or space " ". I'm even willing delete the frist 12 characters in necessary. I have tried cp, mv, tr, and several -bash scripts but get no positive results.

Software :: Folder Name Comparison Utility - Folder Names No Longer Mirroring Each Other

Feb 4, 2010

Does anyone know a good program to use for comparing folder names from 2 different directories? The reason being that at work we have a shared area with 2 folders one named REC (records) the other named WIP (work in progress) within these 2 folders there are 100s of subfolders. The folder names in wip and rec both need to mirror each other but the files are different within the folders. The problem we're having at the moment is people are creating new folders with out letting me know which means the folder names are no longer mirroring each other. I need to know if there is a utilty available to compare just folder names so that we can get a list of folders which have been created without our knowledge and we can ask the originators to remove them.

General :: Batch File To Login To Putty?

Feb 2, 2011

I've created a .bat file with this line: start C:USERSPuttyputty.exe -ssh user@server.com -pw password

That opens a putty session and logged in it with the user and password i've already specified. But now, I want to enter a simple command like "ls -l" for example.. How can I do that?

I've also tried plink...The line in that case is this one:

start C:USERSPuttyplink.exe -v -ssh user@server.com -pw password -m UNIX_commands.txt

and in that file "UNIX_commands.txt" I've added the following lines:

cd /projects/test
ls -l

all works fine (the commands are executed) but i can't see the putty session... all i can see is the verbose in my DOS windows of the last line "ls -l"...

The putty session vanishes away. How can I have the session opened and list the mentioned directory.

General :: EMC PowerPath - How To Change Psuedo Names

May 26, 2009

I am setting up an nfs failover node. The NFS servers share out mounts to a SAN. My problem is this: the master node has
emcpowera as the 100 gig partition
emcpowerb as the 200 gig partition
emcpowerc as the 300 gig partition

and the failover node has
emcpowerc as the 100 gig partition
emcpowerb as the 200 gig partition
emcpowera as the 300 gig partition

This is no problem until the failover node takes over the duties of nfs. The nfs clients that were connected to the share that map to emcpowerc on the master now for some reason map to emcpowera. I had a look and see that powermt is responsible for the pseudo naming of the devices. How do I change the pseudo names for the SAN on the failover node to match the emcpower# (a,b,c) on the Primary node?

General :: Add A File Extension To A Bunch Of File Names?

Oct 20, 2010

I have a considerable number of files in a subdirectory (some fascinating old military clips from archive.org - search on Big Picture if interested). Anyhow, I am downloading them using Internet Download Manager running in an XP virtual machine in VMWare on my Ubuntu 10.04 PC (due to the queuing, restart and speed capabilities of IDM). But I digress - the files are being saved on the host (Samba share) without a file extension. So I have a collection of files with names like

Quote:

The Douglas MacArthur Story
THEY WERE THERE (1960)

I wish to add the extension ".mp4" In Windows this is simply done with the command

Quote:

rename *. *.mp4

This of course does not work in Linux. I have researched the Linux rename command and reviewed a lot of examples. However, I have not found a way to add an extension to a batch of files which are named with no extension to start with. The spaces in the file names also seem to present an issue. At the moment I am renaming them from the Windows VM while they are sitting on the Samba share using the ancient File Manager program from Windows NT which works great on XP. I have experimented with the file rename facility in Gnome Commander however, it does not seem to want to do something so simple.

I don't have this problem in other applications. I can create files with special character included. I think some settings do not agree with KDE4. How can I solve this problem? Does anyone have an idea? I also installed KDE systemsettings program but could not find a relevant config option for character encoding.
