View 3 Replies View RelatedIn an IPv6 test environment I have installed an openSUSE 11.2 system. I have also installed telnet and it works with IPv4 (I can open a session from a Windows console with "telnet ipv4addr").
If I try to open a session with "telnet ipv6addr" I get the response: "Connecting To ipv6addr. Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed".
Does the telnetserver support IPv6 or did I something wrong?

I have a server running samba process and there are about 70 samba users connected at a time. The system has 4Gb of memory and it seems each samba process is utilizing only 3352Kb of memory.
When I run the command

It gives as:

I am piecing a Mandelbrot generator up, I have one working to produce a 1,500 x 1,500 picture (which is fairly accurate).
I would like to increase the resolution over 100,000 x 100,000 + (into the millions x millions).
How I can achieve this? What kind of buffer sizes do I need?

I've been having a problem in Ubuntu 9.10 recently where starting about 2 minutes after startup my computer slows down and becomes unresponsive. I believe the problem is associated with a high IOWait because I have the system monitor applet on my Gnome Panel and it displays 100% IOWait every time my system starts to slow down. I have tried booting into other kernel version and the problem persists. I don't really know what IOWait is or how to diagnose this problem further. I've looked around online and it seems like you have to find a specific process that is causing the IOWait, but I don't understand how to go about doing that.

I've looked for duplicate IPs, signs of a HW problem, etc. and cannot figure out why the system is running with a high load, high iowaits, and low responsiveness. The servers and clients are slackware 12.2 and 13.1 respectively.

I build a new test machine where i need to bring data from live machine. the data is kind of flat files and some propreitary application axigen mail server.
now what i am suffering from, which commands to do first practise. there is remote site with 1mps speed of wireless between live and test machine. on daily basis aprox 14gb .tar.gz files it need to move it.
i found scp,rcp,rsync,sftp etc. which is fastest way to replicate or copy to remote machines.
the data is on live machine /var/opt/application and on remote same directory too /var/opt/application
i try using scp it take aprox 8-10 hours to copy single 14gb file.
if possible where to see such commands logs results, if anything get down error discontinue while copying.
I have just started to have a problem with Xorg it is always using at least 30% of my CPU, and the whole system does not run smooth so if I play a video it does not run smooth, it judders, also even if I drag an icon it judders across the screen. i have a centos 5.4 without desktop environment. i can only access certain system settings via browser (and of course console). i would like to encrypt some folders. but these folders are used by the system. can i encrypt them? will the system still be able to access these folders? if yes, how can i encrypt only through console or is there something web based software for this?

i've been using 10.04 since may and it's been good to me thus far. BUT recently, i've been experiencing unusually high system loads. it will happen at random it seems. for instance, it just did it a few minutes ago when i turned on and mounted a external firewire drive. i also had ogmrip open, but NOT running as well as transmission and pidgin. yesterday, i was encoding a rather big movie with ogmrip and around 25%, the system load quickly increased to 10 and held there until i force quit ogmrip. it went back to normal after the force quit.
a previous night, i was installing the popular ubuntu themes via the terminal. at the same time, i was also using ogmrip and the system load shot up during the download/install and held there the rest of the night. sooo...unless it's somehow related to ogmrip i don't know what's going on. it even did it when ogmrip WAS NOT processing any video, just simply open.
I have been using ubuntu for 4 years now on my decent laptop with 2 Gb RAM, dual core centrino, etc etc. Yet, in all those years I have been using this superior OS, I still have to do hard shutdowns because some program runs wild. I have lately 2 scenarios where I have to interfere with the process:
1: amarok crashes and leaves the python script for the gnome shortcut keys running at 100% CPU. Or: thunderbird-bin keeps running after apparently clean close of Thunderbird. That's not really bothering me, I just kill both processes.
The bigger problem is scenario 2: 2: VLC starts eating all my RAM (for no reason), my SWAP starts filling and my computer becomes unusable for 10 minutes. Or: my matlab script is too big and eats up too much RAM -> same. Note: I have nothing against SWAP because at many other times it's very useful
These are stupid and annoying problems where there is an easy solution:
1) automatically kill the stupid process that runs at 100% CPU
2) automatically kill the stupid process that eats up all my RAM
We are using wordpress with MYSQL. Both the app and DB server are different with 6CPU and 6GB RAM and 32bit processor. We had noticed recently that mysqld process is taking too much of system usage- ranging upto 100% of CPU utilization while having the load of 1200-1600 concurrent users.

I used to use Everest on windows, and I found a closed source program called burnintest that should do what I like, but it uses KDE 3, which I never use. I'm done compiling, but now I have all this software installed that I'll never use again. I'm about to do a fresh install of 11.04; is there a way I could maintain a test environment of some kind so that this doesn't happen in the future?
