Software :: Codec Errors Using Ffmeg And Winff Frontend In Ubuntu 10.04 - Unknown Encoder 'libxvid'

I am testing several programs for video editing and video format change.I have been trying avidemux, and now I am trying to use ffmpeg, and a graphical frontend for it, Winff.As an example I am trying to convert an MP4 file to AVI. General :: VLC RTP Streaming In FC12?

May 17, 2010

I'm trying to get VLC to work streaming RTP audio/video over my office network. The goal is multicast a/v streaming. In all test cases, we are streaming from VLC to VLC. I am able to stream from Windows to Windows, and from Fedora to Windows, but not from Windows to Fedora. Additionally, I am unable to receive a LOCAL stream from one instance of VLC to another, within Fedora.

I don't see any reason why this would be. The buffer indicator (where the elapsed/total time is normally displayed) never shows any connectivity, so it would appear to be a network problem, but since I am able to stream from Fedora to Windows (same IP, same port) I thought it would be something else.Does anyone know of a solution to this issue?

EDIT: Correction to previous edit: the IGMPv3 protocol was just not being picked up by Wireshark. Reverting to IGMPv2, I am able to pick up the Membership Report, Join, and Leave group packets from the Linux machine. I'm using the GUI to configure the following:

CLIENT
rtp://@239.255.12.42 :rtp-caching=1000
SERVER:
screen:// :screen-fps=30.000000 :screen-caching=300 :sout=#transcode
{vcodec=mp4v,vb=800,fps=30,acodec=mp4a,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}
:rtp{dst=239.255.12.42,port=5004,mux=ts}
:no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap :sout-keep

MOST of this is default settings, for the given methods, which I haven't really changed. I've also tried adding the :5004 to the client URL to explicitly give the port, but received no different effect.

General :: .WMA Streaming - Standard - Windows ?

Feb 9, 2010

[1st off...I used to host my music (A&R) website on a dedicated windows server...'cause I thought it was necessary for streaming .wma files. when I discovered it wasn't...I went w/ a standard hosting package, w/ GoDaddy...

BUT...

I moved my recording studio's site to it's own domain. [it used to be a series of pages on my A&R site.]

I now need to create a '301 Redirect' in my old site's directory to redirect surfers (who have my old url) to the new site...but more importantly...to retain my ranking w/ the major search engines...!

It cannot be done on a Windows server (which I'm on, w/ GoDaddy)...not an .htm redirect anyway, which I need. I've tried all the php, asp, etc. scripts...they don't work. [&...I don't think I really need windows features like php or asp...I code my site(s) in Dreamweaver as html pages.]

so...If I migrate my site(s) to a Linux server...

1) Will standard .wma streaming continue to work...? (i.e., a .wax file in the directory that points to the .wma).

2) Which type of server is FASTER for this task...(if any)...Linux or Windows...?

General :: Streaming - Recommendations For A Really Good DVB-T Card?

Feb 4, 2010

I am so fed up with my Sony HDR that is already obsolete. As I am a linux geek, I have been thinking on building my own media central. Reading various hardware support list gives some information about if a card works or not, but not if its good. Also, I would like to buy a card from a vendor that actively supports linux. Can someone recommend a really good DVB-T card?

I would need: DVB-T support.Radio as an option.Two or more channels, three seems like the maximum that I would ever need, but who knows. Doesn't matter if its one or two cards, as long as it works. CAM support. Additional card or built in. I have no idea of how this works actually, but I think the CA module must support mpeg4 too? HDTV/Mpeg4 support (Software is fine, I guess.) I would also need a good remote control (bluetooth) that not neccesarily needs to come with the card, and a decent fanless graphics card that handles hdtv on linux...

General :: Anyone Know Any Decentralized Audio Streaming Software?

Nov 8, 2010

I was wondering if anyone knew of any [client] software that takes an audio stream from an input - the mic - samples it, optionally codes it with a codec, and then packetize it to send over the network to an IP address and port number.And on the same machine and other machines can be [server] software listening on a port that would take any packets arriving on that port from another IP address, depacketize it, optionally decode it, and output it - to the speaker.

I'm trying to allow voice over a MANET / Mesh network in a cave, with no outside connection, so can't rely on logging in to other nets or server based VoIP.

General :: How To Force Mencoder To Stop Streaming

Aug 11, 2010

Is there a way to instruct mencoder to stop streaming/recording after a specified period associated with a loss of signal?I use mencoder to record over-the-air television recordings. Most of the time there are no problems.Occasionally a station's transmission signal disappears, caused by quirky atmospheric conditions, usually at night.Noticing these signal outages is easy by the mencoder error message:dvb_streaming_read, attempt N. %x failed with errno %y when reading %z bytes"Lengthy outages are unbearable because mencoder silently waits forever rather than quit.

The significant problem with lengthy signal outages is mencoder continues recording for the time specified by the -endpos parameter. Thus, for example, if the recording is scheduled for 2 hours and there is a 20 minute loss of signal, the recording does not end until 2 hours and 20 minutes after starting.Generally, when the interruption is lengthy the recording is ruined and I don't care to watch. I would like to programmatically tell mencoder to stop waiting and quit.Is there a way to do this? Say, after ten minutes of no signal, just terminate do not notice any parameters that might offer that option, but I could be overlooking something obvious. I tried the -skiplimit parameter with no success.

General :: Firefox Unstable And Does Not Do Streaming Video - Audio

May 23, 2010

running ubuntu 8.04 dual boot with windows- need windows for avery label program, ibm via voice and access data base .chose 8.04 because of long term support. firefox is now unstable and does not do streaming video ' audio.[ustream in particular and others] usually i get the video but not the audio. sometimes the fox just closes and i can open it on the second try- sometimes not. skype does work. there may be a fix for the audio using libflash support program. where to get this& what to do with it is a problem.

perhaps it would be prudent to upgrade to 10.04 but this seems to be a work in progress and might lead me into further problems. on the other hand i could work up to ubuntu 9.10 if it would be more likely to work better the get to 10.04 when it is further along. i am pretty useless with the command line.on the whole ubuntu has worked well until this problem came up.

i know for a fact that both sound card and speakers work fine because i've tested them with windows xp. so there must be some setting in opensuse that i've missed. the weird part is that i can listen to music cds without any problems...

Software :: VLC Streaming And Fedora 14?

Apr 8, 2011

I am trying to configure VLC to work with my Logitech Webcam. When I startup the program with the following command line

vlc v4l2:///dev/video1 alsa://plughw:Q9000,046d:0990 -vvv input_stream --sout='#duplicate{dst=display, dst="transcode{venc=x264{keyint=60,idrint=2},vcodec=h264,vb=300,acodec=mp4a,ab=32,channels=2,sampler ate=44100}:rtp{dst=127.0.0.1,port=1234,sdp=file:///home/mulder/vlc.sdp}"}'

The cam opens up and displays the video, however I cannot configure the microphone on the card. I can open up System>Preferences>Sound and the QuickCam microphone is listed, and I can configure input volume. However when I try and configure a capture device for streaming, it sees the QuickCam, but I cannot input a sound device. in /dev there is no sound devices listed, no asp, no dsp, nothing.

arecord -l returns:

card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: Q9000 [QuickCam Pro 9000], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Now when I use Cheese Webcam Booth to record a video with the webcam, it does capture the audio, so I know the microphone is working. In Audacity, I can select the Quickcam as the input device, and can record audio. My guess is that I need to know what to specify on the command line to get the mic on the webcam working.
