General :: SSH RSA - Give Passphrase In Script?
Nov 8, 2010
when generating RSA public/private key pair, I gave a passphrase to protect the key. When I now want to use this private key in a script to log on to the remote server via ssh and do something, how can I give the passphrase? Alternatively, is it possible to use a different private key without passphrase ? I doubt it, but it doesn't harm to ask.

I would like to use a USB key to hold the passphrase for an encrypted /Data partition. A forum search turned up only using that method for / which requires initrd. That's not what I'm after. In openSUSE 11.4 I want to boot normally and then automatically unlock the /Data partition only if the USB key is inserted. I'm assuming this would require some kind of automounting after or during the boot process.

i want to do a setting to dynamically monitor my Work Station on my Wifi network.
I've got my name server BIND and my dhcpd server all of that under linux working perfectly. But i didn't find any option to execute a script when dhcp give an IP to a machine. I would like to know if there is a way to do that. If there is no options for that i'll use the log files.

How can i set my OpenWrt 10.03 router to not to use 192.168.1.0/24? instead, use a /32 mask, so every client, that gets an ip from the DHCP server just can't sniff the network traffic - it would be a great security feature to safely use e.g.: FTP!

I have a user on my CentOS server who is not part of any group, just by themselves.
How can I give that user 777 permissions without affecting any other user on the server? I have chroot off, so I can see everything, but the user cannot write.
Do I use chown?

we have a tool called trace which takes a memory address as input and gives the function name corresponding to that as output.I have a file which has around 200 addresses, which needs to be given as input to this trace tool.I can start the tool in this way. There is another file called address.txt from which I need to feed these addresses to this tool.Manually it takes lot of time to give the addresses which are in other file one by one. I have idea about some basic awk one liners.

I have downloaded the newest most stable Linux kernel, 2.6.33.2.
I thought I would test this using VirtualBox. So I create a dynamically sized harddisk of 4 GB. And installed CentOS 5.3 with just the minimum packages.
I setup the make menuconfig with just the default settings.
After that I ran make and got the following error:
The amount of space I have left is:
My virtual size is 4 GB, but the actual size is 3.5 GB.
How much size should I give when compiling and installing a Linux kernel? Are there any guidelines to follow when doing this? This is my first time, so just experimenting with this.

I have a web application which calls scripts on the linux box it's deployed on. Currently, there are some file permission issues which prevent the scripts from running properly. How can I give my web application the needed permissions? I thought of creating a user 'group' , assigning my web app to that group, and changing the ownership of the script files to the new group. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with the following: What user id does my web app have? If my web app does not have an user id,

I am new to Linux so thought it would be a good learning exercise to try and setup an FTP server using linux.I have downloaded and installed Ubuntu 10 server edition and installed vsftpd, following instructions found on here I have configured the software and I can connect from an FTP client on my windows PC across the internal LAN.I have a couple of questions if I may:
1) a post on this forum suggests that local users can access the FTP server if the correct line is enabled in vsftpd.conf - I have done this and the fact that I can access it shows this is working I would think, however users added subsequently with the useradd command cannot access the server. Filezilla shows a could not connect to server error.
2) how do I give the server a fixed IPv4 address? It is currently using DHCP
3) I need to be able to put files into users folders for them to access offsite, but I don't want them to see each others filesfolders, can I do this?

I want to search files (basically .cc files) in /xx folder and subfolders. Those files (*.cc files) must contain #include "header.h" AND x() function. Clearly, I wanna list of *.cc files that have 'header.h' & 'x()'. They must have two strings.
I tried several ways, and got only files with header.h OR x(). Some examples given in Internet doesn't give any result in my system. I am using Fedora 8.0 in my PC and I have grep 2.5.1 version.
