View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, Rhythmbox will show itself playing a song (the notification in the top right corner) but I hear no sound. I can go to the application itself and see the play slider moving. I can't pause it or anything. if it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself. If I browse to the directory, and right click > Open with Rhythmbox, it works perfectly (although I still can't pause it)
Also, if I jump to another song, and then play the song it was playing silently, it works. Not sure why it does this.
I doubt it's the files themselves because I've been downloading all my songs from one site, and never had an issue in iTunes on a windows PC. It only does this to about 3 songs out of 164. It used to do this to only 2, but now it's doing it to 3 since the past few days when adding more songs.
I just reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop. I am always playing music, and when I recently noticed that Rhythmbox won't play my music. It will play the first few songs, then it will just stop, and it thinks its playing, but its not.
Example:

My rhythm box crashes every time i play a song or try to transfer music to my ipod. It usually will play one song but then it crashes. Everything was working fine last night, then today it stopped working right.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to play netradio in Rhythmbox it hangs. This only happens with Windows Media Streams, not with Ogg Streams, but as most internet radio is in Windows Media Streams this is a problem The link I am trying to play uses the mms protocol. When I try to play the link in Movie player it also just hangs, :S, but in VLC it works, but VLC is not a very handy music player.
I suspect that I would maybe need some GStreamer plugins but which? The link I try to play is this: mms://wmscr1.dr.dk/e04ch10m But I am not sure it will play outside Denmark, so you might not be able to this the link out yourself :S
I'm running Lucid and have an annoying problem with Rhythmbox: while playing, it constantly accesses the disk, every 2-3 seconds drrrrd drrrrd. Listening to some silent music is horrible - the output of the speakers is lower than the noise of the local disk.
Maybe relevant settings in Edit->Preferences:
Playback -> Network Buffer Size: 1024 kB
Music -> Watch my library for new files: off
Is there anything else one can change? It can't be that difficult to read a <10MB file into memory right from the start and not touch the disk drrrrd every few seconds?! P.S. I verified by turning off the speakers and start/stop playback - the noise there on playback and not if turned off. Reliably.
I recently found that I can sync my music to my iPod without iTunes/Windows. I tried using Rhythmbox and it seemed to work. That was, until I tried playing the album I added. It just skips through the album.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 9.10 yesterday. When I opened rhythmbox music player, I dragged over some mp3 files to play. It asked me if I wanted to install mp3 support. Naturally I selected yes, as I have several times before. Everything appeared to install correctly and music started playing. The first track finished fine. The second track made it roughly 20 seconds and then the sound stopped. I switched back to the desktop that rhythmbox was on (I had been browsing firefox on the other desktop) and noticed that the progress bar for the song was moving very fast and would continue doing so on every song. The progress bar would cycle through the length of a 3:40 song in about 6-8 seconds. But there was no sound.
I should also note that the reason I used rhythmbox (RB) was because I tried to install Amarok 2.2, which did install, but I couldn't get the program to work when I opened it. So I decided to settle for rhythmbox. So the first time I encountered this error on RB was the first time I used the program, and the first time I used RB was after I had installed Amarok 2.2 and couldn't get it to work. Idk if this is relevant or not, but I figured I would include it anyway.
Anyway, I have tried a number of potential solutions:
1) Changing the hardware profile for my multimedia.
2) Making sure my bios is set up properly. I have a soundcard, so I disabled onboard audio.
3) I thought maybe Pulseaudio was the problem, but didn't try to resolve it because this thread from he Ubuntu forums appears to be outdated for Karmic Koala, so I didn't take my chances using it.
4) Uninstalling Amarok, however, I couldn't locate all the dependencies to uninstall them
5) Installing "libxine1-ffmpeg" manually since another forum on ubuntuforums had recommended that. However the deb-installer failed with this output
Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libavcodec1d (>= 0.cvs20070307)
6) Booting to the LiveCD for Kubuntu (Kx) 8.04-2, Kubuntu 9.10, and Ubuntu (Ux) 9.10. I went through the process of opening RB, loading music, installing mp3 support. For Kx 8.04-2, I got an error telling me I needed to install "libxine1-ffmpeg" manually, which I did via deb-installer. Everything worked great. For Kx 9.10 and Ux 9.10, I got the already mentioned error about the unsatisfiable dependency. So I could go back to Kx 8.04-02 (which many of my friends here at LFO know this has been my favorite distro+version for almost two years now). However, I can't be stuck with it just because of some minor issues.
I should also note that video on firefox (e.g.; ......com) is very slow and usually greys out firefox until it stops working. Yes, I have installed flash player and jre 6.0 via synaptec. :D So this is apparently an overall multimedia problem, which doesn't surprise me because it seems that both Ubuntu AND Kubuntu have been having more multimedia problems since fall of 2009 (at least based on what I have gathered from forums while searching out my current problem). Whether that is related to the 9.10 releases and later, or not, I don't know.
Another option I have is to try Mint, which I have had very good experiences with in the past. But I don't want to leave the *buntu family as I am very partial to it and really enjoy the time-saving convenience of the deb-installer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedBoth Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
When ever I try to play something on totem or rhythmbox (.m4a and .mp3) it tells me I need "MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder, Do you want to search for this now?" and once I do it says "Failed to search for plugin". The same thing happens with .m4a.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've been using Rhythmbox and Gnome Do for quite some time now, and this problem has persisted for about as long
So I've got the Rhythmbox plugin enabled in Gnome Do. Awesome. I can invoke Gnome Do (Super + Space on my system) and start typing up some music I want to hear. This morning I wanted to listen to Buck 65's album Vertex. So I start typing "Buck 65" and the artist is listed in Gnome Do as expected.
I hit the right arrow to see a listing of his albums. I arrow down to Vertex and press Enter. What I expect is that Rhythmbox will start playing that album. However, there is simply no effect. This occurs at all levels of music browsing with Gnome Do. I can select an artist, album, or specific song, and no matter what I select, Rhythmbox doesn't respond at all. This is true if Rhythmbox is already running or not, whether it's already playing music or not. There's just no effect.
In short, Gnome Do correctly sees Rhythmbox's index of my music, and I can traverse the artists, etc with it just fine, but it will not actually make Rhythmbox play that music.
That said, other functions of the Rhythmbox plugin work fine. I can pause and play music just fine using Gnome Do.
Ubuntu 10.10; Using Rhythmbox 0.13.1 and looking for a plugin that will allow me to love/ban tracks. The integrated Last.fm support is decent, but lacks a few features. I've recently migrated over from Banshee which was constantly crashing upon loading my music library (17,891 songs). So preferably I'd like to stay with Rhythmbox as it's the only player I've found so far that can load all my music without issues.

I have just installed SuSE 11.4 and find that xine and VLC cant play DVDs. xine reports:'input plugin cannot open MRL [dvd:/]' and then 'cannot find input plugin for MRL [dvd:/]'. Plainly I've either forgotten to install something, or somethings' permissions are wrong.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy music library contains some old .wma files and each time I try to run Rhythmbox, a window pops up saying that:
<Name of current song> requires an Additional plugin. The following plugin is required: Windows Media Audio Decoder. Do you want to search for this now ?
If I press the search button I get a response saying that the package was not found. Then I press the close button, only to see the same dialog popping up again. The funny thing is that all this is happening while the current songs is not in WMA format and it is actually playing
I am running fedora 11 and have configured both rpm-fusion and livna repositories.
What I am looking for is a dashboard type plugin for Rhythmbox which will show on the main screen ...then (because of the small size) I can use VNC on my Android Phone to see what is playing and to change songs etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for some pointers on a method to "transfer" the song-playing from my laptop to my PC, both running ubuntu. The use case is: I'm home listening to some song on the laptop. Then I realize how crappy the speakers are. Here's what I do *now*:
1. Stop playback on the laptop
2. Get up, go to the PC, open the music player
3. Find the same song
4. Try to find the same point in the song
5. Stop playback on the laptop
6. Start playback on the PC (the PC has good speakers)
Of course now I'm dreaming of having a "button" I push that does all this all by itself. Can anyone give me some pointers?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just had my laptop in the shop for a month or so now (through Staples warrenty) I sent it in because my LCD monitor wasn't lighting up after a bit of use.
Got it back and they said my issue could not be replicated, so they just cleaned it and such and gave it back. Well so far it's been going pretty good, monitor stays on except when i turn on Heroes of Newerth.
What kind of problem is this and is it easily fixable?
The plugin is located here: [url]
Problem is, I see absolutely nothing to install.
I'm trying to install the "in the mood" plugin in rhythmbox. I downloaded the tar.gz and extracted it and attempted to do a
Quote:
./configure
make install
but I don't really know what I'm doing and it always responds that it doesn't know a ./configure command. So, I looked around and installed build-essentials, which I thought would make it work, but I keep getting the same response.I then read somewhere, that I just have to copy the "in the mood" folder to the rhythmbox plugins folder. I did, and the plugin appears in the list of plugins, but when I click on it, it says "Unable to Activate Plugin".My last attempt took me to code.google for the plugin, where it said I needed to install libmad and marsyas. Libmad was easy, since it's a dev package, but after I downloaded marsyas, and extracted it through

tar xzvf marsyas-0.4.0.tar.gz
but I ran into the same problem with ./configure and make install
I keep getting this error every time I try to enable the ipod plugin for rhythmbox. Is there something I can do to repair this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem, i have an LG LCD screen that i connect to my laptop via HDMI through nVidia. I was watching full length movies and everything worked perfectly. So, i got myself a new, slightly bigger LG LCD, and now, when I play a movie, about 20-60 minutes into the movie, my machine just turns off. doesnt even shutdown properly, just turns itself off, as if the power ran out (which it didnt..)
I thought maybe i had too many things installed, or mabe i should wait for a new version.. so i waited till i reinstalled a fresh 10.4 on a new partition, played a movie, and again, the machine just suddenly turned itself off.
i tried looking in the system log viewer, but between shutdown and startup, i see nothing special (besides ALOT of "rt_ioctl_giwscan. 1(1) BSS returned, data->length = 105")..
i tried running 64bit & 32bit and it has the same error.
we were watching Clint Eastwood in Pink Cadillac on DVD. Earlier, I had been checking out the streaming internet radio on my roommates Mint laptop using Rhythmbox, and found it to be pretty cool. Usually, if I stream any music, it's just from the CBC (like the U.S.'s NPR), so I just stream it directly from them, but all the stations on rhythmbox (there's a whack of them) got me interested. At the start of Pink Cadillac, I proposed myself a challenge: Could I manage to get rhythmbox (a GNOME application) to work on my Slack64 -current box, before the movie ended? There's probably (maybe?) a similar app that installs and works more natively on Slack, but that's not the point; I wanted to try installing rhythmbox in < 2 hrs. Well, I got it installed finally, *just* at the end of the movie credits, but it won't play! And sometimes it segfaults. So, I wonder if anyone has any tips about what I might be missing or whatever.
Here's what I typically get when I first start it up (though it starts & runs OK):
Code:
sasha@reactor: rhythmbox
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".
(rhythmbox:15745): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed
(rhythmbox:15745): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to grab media player keys: Could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.SettingsDaemon': no such name
[code].....
Seems even on systems with some sort of 'natural' support for installing this thing, a lot of people are getting the same or very similar errors, but I haven't found a solution (obviously - I wouldn't be posting otherwise ) but people, myself included, have discovered that there doesn't seem to be a 100% accurate list of *required* dependencies for rhythmbox; it needs stuff that it doesn't tell you it needs.
EDIT: Disclaimer (just to cut the 'dependency-hell' arguments off at the pass, so to speak): This is just a fun experiment for me. I don't suggest Slackware newbies start trying to install <xyz Gnome application> into their Slackware boxes unless you want to spend HOURS fixing stuff like this, and you want to have fun doing it, and have it maybe bork your box up. And if you *do* decide to try it anyways, don't blame Slackware for giving you dependency hell. Gnome doesn't come with Slackware (here's the ChangeLog). I like Slackware exactly the way it is - it comes with more than enough apps to satisfy most people, all nicely working out of the box, so installing stuff like this is not really necessary - but I'm choosing to do this one anyway, and am not deterred by this "mess" of stuff. If this dependency stuff isn't your 'cup of tea', an 'automatically-dependency-resolving' distro might be better for you; I prefer to mess my machine up on my own, rather than let my package manager do it for me.
