I don't know when this started happening, but my shortcuts such as Super+D to minimize all and go to the desktop and Ctrl+Alt+T to open a terminal, etc, have stopped working.
Other shortcuts, such as Alt+F1 and Alt+F2 work correctly, as well as the compiz ones.
This morning the keyboard shortcuts don't work ant longer; they worked yesterday. alt-tab doesn't switch among windows, alt-ctrl-t doesn't open the terminal etc. On the other hand, all usual shortcuts are OK in keyboard Shortcuts applet. It looks (to my poor intuition) there is something wrong with my usb keyboard recognition....
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter using KDE 3.5 for years, I defected to Gnome when KDE 4.0 came out. I have recently installed Kubuntu Maverick on my netbook and have decided that I now like KDE again The one bit of functionality that I am missing is the keyboard short cuts of Gnome-Do. So if I type Windows key Em, return and Emacs launches.
The search box in Kubuntu sort of does this. However, I have to click in the box and when I have typed the first few characters I have to click on the icon with the mouse. Is there any way I can do this just using the keyboard and not the mouse? I have searched the help and Googled without much success.
I installed gnome-do to see what it was like (useless - doesn't work properly with Unity as far as I can tell). After trying it out for a while I noticed that my browser and email keyboard shortcuts didn't work anymore. I have a Microsoft Ergo 4000 keyboard with dedicated browser and email buttons that I always used to start Firefox and Thunderbird. Now the browser button starts the browser, but instead of starting my home page it attempts to load a non-url number. All settings, like keyboard shortcuts, software preferences and in the browser are still set correctly, but it doesn't work anymore.The email button doesn't do anything anymore.Once again, all settings like keyboard shortcuts and software preferences are still correct, but the button no longer works.

View 1 Replies View RelatedKarmic there was a tab inside "System->Preferences->Appearance" called "Interface" which allowed me to modify the keyboard shortcuts. I had <Backspace> to move backwards in Nautilis and <Shift><Backspace> to move forward.
Without this tab can anyone tell me how I can modify the shortcuts to do this? I have spent some time looking at gconf-editor but nothing is jumping out at me, particularly with regards to the back and forward browsing.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, but wanted to use Banshee instead of Rhythmbox. After running Code: sudo aptitude install banshee I wanted to bind my "Media" button on my keyboard to run banshee; unfortunately, it still wants to run rhythmbox. Where can I change the default command executed by these keyboard shortcuts? I can't seem to find them in gconf-editor under apps/metacity/* and googling has proved fruitless in finding where this configuration file is located.

I added this shortcut in keyboard shortcuts, and added it also in compiz setups and it works till first reboot, but no matter what i do, after reboot this shortcut is not active any more. So the key keyboard shortcut is:
CTRL+ALT+TAB
With it you change the focus from the desktop to the panel, and vice versa When the focus in in the panel you can move from icon to icon with TAB (to the right) or SHIFT+TAB (to the left). Then Enter key (sometimes F10 instead) makes the same as left-clicking with the mouse, and SHIFT+F10 makes the same as right-clicking with the mouse. ESC key (sometimes Enter instead) takes the menus out.

I just installed F11 on my new laptop (Acer Timeline 3810T) and I have the following issue when adjusting volume. The keyboard shortcuts work, but they don't raise/lower the volume smoothly, instead they do it in 4 or 5 increments total. What's weird is that the notification that appears in the screen when I adjust the volume (the whitish square with a picture of a speaker, I think it's part of Compiz) shows the the volume changing in small increments, but when I get to the 3rd or 4th little increment from the right the volume is already muted. If I look at the alsa volume controls at the same time, I see it changing by the 4 or 5 big increments.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running XFCE on slackware64-current. I've had this problem for a number of months now. Every so often, XFCE will decide to not recognize key combinations that are mapped to keyboard shortcuts. For example, hitting ALT+F2 will not bring up the xfrun4 dialog box. This happens to all of my keyboard shortcuts (e.g., volume keys).
For now, I've resorted to going into the keyboard shortcut settings and double-clicking on each assignment and then hitting ok. This seems to correct whatever corruption is occurring. What's even more unusual is that all of the settings appear to be intact in the settings box and even in the .xml file.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. All of a sudden several of my function keys stopped working and several keyboard shortcuts that I had setup involving function keys stopped working as well.
For example, when I go to preferences->keyboard shortcuts and try to set "Toggle fullscreen mode" to Alt+F11, the text "XF86AudioRaiseVolume" appears where it should just say "Alt+F11". Pressing Alt+F11 does nothing.
All of my function keys somehow got mapped to XF86AudioBlahBlah and no longer work. How do I undo this? I recently installed ffmpeg and gtk-recordmydesktop but I don't think I installed anything else.

Then I couldn't get it again, even the title bar of Eclipse disappeared and I couldn't find any way to restore it. Even terminal is not getting opened.
I'm trying to emulate behaviour I get from KeyRemap4MacBook on Mac OS X. It lets me remap control-m to Enter, for instance, globally. Is this possible with X/GNOME? Seems like xmodmap is not suitable for remapping key combinations. I tried xbindkeys to bind control-m to xdotool key Return, but it emits control-return. I tried xdotool keyup control; xdotool key Return; xdotool keydown control but it stills behaves unpredictably.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've started using the keyboard shortcuts in Linux Mint with the Gnome desktop, and I've found that they don't work unless I first click on the desktop with the mouse.
The problem occurs if I start with no application windows open, then open a single application, and later close it leaving an empty desktop. If any other app windows are open the keyboard shortcuts still work. But if there are no other windows open the shortcuts fail to work until I click on the desktop. It's as though the system fails to return the input focus to the desktop when the last remaining app window is closed.
On PC-BSD 8.1 (KDE) I have four workspaces. I want to launch rdesktop 1.6 in one of them, full screen if possible (I'll settle for nearly-full in a window if I have to), and be able to do the following:
Switch between windows in the remote session using Alt+Tab. Switch between local workspaces using either the default Ctrl+F1 or what I've switched it to, my preferred Alt+F1.
It seems if I use the -K option, I get 2 but not 1. If I don't, I get 1 but not 2. Is there no way to do this? How can I tell rdesktop to send or not send a specific key combination?

how to clear them from the list ?

I have this setting in my .fvwm2rc: Key q A 4 Close The above works fine in fvwm without gnome, but when I execute gnome-session, seems the modifier is ignored. If I replace the '4' with 'A' and restart fvwm2 under gnome (fvwm2 --replace) the letter q will close the window. But with '4' or 'M' with gnome-session, the modifier is ignored. Also tried : xmodmap -e "add mod4 = Super_L"
