View 5 RepliesI am running Ubuntu (Karmic) and did the command: "sudo apt-get install ssh", In an attempt to download, install and setup OpenSSH. This installed both the client and server and during setup actually brought the daemon up and running as well. I then attempt: "ssh <myusername>@localhost" and it prompts me with a password. I enter the password, hit enter and immeditaly see the following results:
Read from remote host localhost: Connection reset by peer. Connection to localhost closed. I'm fairly certain that it is not on the client end as I can connect to other machines through ssh. I've tailed all the logs, messages, dmesg etc and nothing seems to be out of order, or even remotely related to shh or connections etc. My desktop machine had no (as in zero) issues installing and setting up OpenSSH, and connections can come and go as normal.
When I do an amcheck, I get this Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check WARNING: noname.com: selfcheck request failed: recv error: Connection reset by peer Client check: 1 host checked in 0.022 seconds. 1 problem found.
I am using bsdtcp. I get an ack error if I switch the client to bsd authentication. What should I do, how do I fix it? I read that I should enter servers address to hosts file in /etc/ directory? Here is the log in /var/log/messages:

I've happily been using rdesktop to access my MS Vista desktop from Ubuntu (Hardy) for a few months until a couple of days ago when it stopped working. Now if I try connecting I get the following:
[Code]....
I don't believe anything's changed on the client (Ubuntu) side. The Vista box is occasionally connected to a corporate intranet via VPN and it was after such a session that rdesktop stopped working, so perhaps a Windows group policy was modified during the session. I've checked the basics - can ping 10.1.1.2 from Ubuntu, can access port 3389. Have deleted ~/.rdesktop and ~/.tsclient.
Digging around the Vista client I noticed in Control Panel > System Properties > Remote that in the Remote Desktop sub-panel the Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication setting is enabled and that the other two are greyed out. Now, I don't know whether this setting has been changed but I suspect that it might be the problem.
Unfortunately, I don't know enough about Windows to know how or even whether I can change this setting to Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure) I've poked around the group policy editor (gpedit.msc) but no joy.
When I try to connect to cvs server this is the error message I get.
I also tried cvs -d server:newuser@localhost:/cvs/CVSROOT login but getting the same result
My repository is in /cvs/CVSROOT
I also tried changing /etc/xinetd.d/cvs with different options, current it looks like this:
And my /etc/xinetd.conf is

I tried to install the latest version of Debian from a Live USB on my new laptop (UEFI). Everything goes well during installation (EFI partition, grub-efi, etc), but after restart, my computer does not boot into HDD.
How to debug the problem or fix the boot loader. What is the problem in standard installation? and how can I fix the boot loader?
I'm trying to install the latest version of Clamav (0.95.3), but I'm getting the following error messages in Synaptic after adding the recommended repository to my sources:
Here's a listing of my sources:
I have an external hd attached to my one computer at home, use DynDNS to give it a static address, and can usually ssh into the machine fine. I ran update a few days ago and now have the much-aligned "connection reset by peer" error. I checked the machine and made sure everything was "normal;" e.g., checked ssh config for the port change (correct), doubled-checked ufw to make sure the port was open (it was), etc. I ran nmap on the machine and it said the port was open. This morning when I arrived at work, I ran nmap on my machine here where I've been unable to connect and its results were a little surprising: the port I specified at home and was demonstrated as open is not. WTF?
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhich cropped up today after no changes to the system: I can successfully ssh into my ubuntu 64-bit 9.10 machine (via OS X with iTerm), but after about 30 seconds, the connection drops with the message "Connection reset by peer Connection to xx.xx.xx.xx closed".
If I then try to immediately ssh back in I get: "Write failed: Broken pipe". If I try to immediately ping the machine instead, I cannot ping it until the ~10th try. Eventually I can log back in again, only to be kicked off after between 5 and 60 seconds. I called the network people and their are no known issue right now with networking. The networking on the ubuntu machine is otherwise fine, it seems. In the /var/log/auth.log file, it simple says:
Quote:
Feb 9 14:19:20 harriet sshd[4134]: Accepted password for xxx from xx.xx.xx.xx port 55105 ssh2
Feb 9 14:19:20 harriet sshd[4134]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user xxx by (uid=0)
Feb 9 14:19:28 harriet sshd[4046]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session closed for user xxx
The solution I come across to a similar problem is to add a "ClientAwakeInterval" number to sshdconfig, but this (as expected) doesn't fix my problem.
I am using hostapd, wireless tools with madwifi for my wireless ap in my board. The WEP, WPA-PSK connections and communications between my board with linux and my desktop PC, Windows XP SP2 (with Olitec USB wireless) are fine. But when I configured the WPA type, the connection seems established but shows the status "TKIP - Key Absent" in the security dialog box. Anyone faced this problem? Am attaching the conf files and the connection status. In the AP side am complaining . I am using the in built radius server conf with the hostapd 0.4.7

When I plug in my iPhone to my 10.04 machine, it's recognized. I can always drag music from the iPhone to the Music collection in Rhythmbox, but 9 times out of 10 dragging the other ways gives me this error:
"Error while getting peer-to-peer dbus connection: The name :1.219 was not provided by any .service files"
Where do I get Frostwire to install? None of the repos I have have it.
What are other popular peer to peer programs?
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. I'm searching for an automated way of installing the latest version of Flash for Firefox. We are using our machine as a testing server and it would be nice to be assured we always have the latest version of Flash instead of having to manually update it whenever Adobe comes out with an incremental update.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am pragmatically trying to upload a list of files from my client machine to a proFTPd server I have running on Ubuntu. Every time I get several (around fifty) files into the transfer, I get the following error: Quote: Connection reset by peer: socket write error
I am able to remotely upload 25,000 small files of ~ 1K in size, but when I go to upload hundreds of 2-4 Mb files, I get a socket write error. Am I using up all available sockets before they can be released? If so, how do I release the sockets? If not, what does this error mean and why am I getting it?
I would like to recompile the openssh-server with a different version string. I download and compile the source, but so far I have only been able to compile and run the client. Not the server.
Steps taken:
Is there a flag or option I need to specify to insure that it creates the sshd?
I am new to Fedora and having trouble installing the latest tar file from Mozilla. I am familiar with basic Linux commands and the message I received when after downloading the tar file and extracting it was error while loading shared libraries: /root/firefox/libxul.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied. I do not have the latest version I tried to yum update and it did not work.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I connect with my vps server through openssh, doesn't establish connection. Openssh is active (see its status), port 22 is open, the sshd_config file is the same of original copy (I have saved one in the case I did a mistake) the only line different permitrootpassword is set on ''no'', there isn't a firewall that block ssh connection and with other remote desktop control like remmina works well.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install the latest version of K9copy, but the only available version is in the .tar.gz file package. I placed the folder on my desktop and extracted the files. Now I have the .tar.gz file and the extracted files on the desktop. I need to install the files, but I don't know which command to use or what to do to get any commands to work.
(Keep in mind that the extracted folder is named 'k9copy-2.3.4-Source.tar.gz')
./configure
make
make install
This seems to be the most common answer to install the files, but it NEVER works, nor do I understand where the package files come into play when I type this command into the terminal.
I have reloaded windows xp and now after installing ubuntu latest version, I get a boot menu that gives options. if I select the Ubuntu option, within a few seconds(2)the monitor shows "out of range"! However it is possible to get a command prompt from this menu,(Grub)by pressing "C" then Tab, which lists about 30 commands! But I cannot find what command will overide the ubuntu boot display setting! yet if it is possible in the disc boot F6 menu, then it follows that it must be possible in the hard disk boot menu? (ie nomodeset available on the disk F6, so using F6-nomodeset on the disk allows me to install or run from the disk, which then runs perfectly) Only I cannot make changes in the Ubuntu live that runs direct from the disk, to the installation on the hard drive. My Monitors Max is 75hz 1280x1024, LCD. And although not the latest model, Its still relatively current. Windows from the boot menu works fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Fedora Core 8 server came with OpenSSH Server 4.7p1 installed. I could not find a YUM package or RPM for 5.2p1, so I installed it manually and rebooted. Now if I do a version check with "sshd -v", it reports it's version as "OpenSSH_5.2p1", but if I connect with Putty, it reports "SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_4.7". Do I have two versions of OpenSSH running or what's going on?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running centos 5.4. I just installed eclipse from Application,Add/remove software. The version that installed was not the latest version. I can remove the version I just installed but how should I install the latest version? I was able to dl the lastest version but it came in a .tar.gz file eclipse-java-galileo-SR1-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz When I unzipped it, there was no install option but I was able to run it from the tmp folder.
I want to add a menu item under Applications, Programming to link to the latest version that I just downloaded but I haven't been able to figure this out. The 2 question I have are this: 1- Is there a way to have the latest version show up under Application,Add/remove software so that I can just uninstall the version I installed and get the lastest?
2- Is there a way to install the downloaded version and have it show up under Application, Programming? I love this OS but it's taking me a while to figure out some simple things.

This morning gkrellm updated from 2.3.4-1 to 2.3.5-2 and now the CPU temperatures aren't displayed. I've rerun sensors-detect and restarted module-init-tools, but the temperatures still don't display. If I run sensors from a terminal, the CPU core temperatures are displayed correctly. Has anyone else seen this?
