It's like this:
name----------YYYYMMDD-hhmmss.ogg
Now Im splitting these hourly files into 1 minute files. I get then this output sofar properly:
beach---------20090808-110000_00.mp3
beach---------20090808-110000_01.mp3
beach---------20090808-110000_02.mp3
and so on....
the 00, 01, 02 and up are the minutes it has splitted it. Now I need a script, after it did this, to rename the file names into this:
beach---------20090808-110000.mp3
beach---------20090808-110100.mp3
beach---------20090808-110200.mp3
beach---------20090808-110300.mp3

Oct 5, 2010I've been surfing and searching the net quit a while now to make my own script, but I haven't been really successful ever since I want to make a script which can remove strings from my mp3 collection (file names).

Dec 6, 2010I tried to tag late onto a question similar to mine on stackoverflow (Find Non-UTF8 Filenames on Linux File System) to elicit further replies, with no luck so far, so here goes again... I have the same problem as the OP in the link above and convmv is a great tool to fix one's own filesystem. My question is therefore academic, but I find it unsatisfactory (in fact I can't believe) that 'find' is not able to find non standard ascii characters.
Is there anyone out there that would know what combination of options to use to find filenames that contain non standard characters on what seems to be a unicode FS, in my case the characters seem to be 8bits extended ascii rather than unicode, the files come from a Windows machine (iso-8859-1) and I regularly need to fetch them. I'd love to see how find and/or grep can do the same as convmv.

When I quit an editing sesion vim creates a backup file with the same name as that of the edited file but with a '~' appended. I would like the name for the backup file to be the following: same base name as that of the edited file and edited file extension replaced by 'bak'. Example:
Input file//////////////backup file after editing
----------//////////////-------------------------
foo.txt/////////////////foo.txt~
foo.txt/////////////////foo.bak
The first line corresponds to what vim now does. The second one is what I want vim to do.

In fact, I plan on running this as a cronjob to keep checking filenames for certain characters. I want directories and filenames with spaces or pluses (+) to have those certain characters replaced with underscores (_). I know that this will involve sed but I'm not sure what else. A simple shell script would handle it.

I notice that if I use the >> operator, information gets appended to a new line in my output file. This is useful, but if I'd like to append onto the CURRENT line, is there an easy way to do this? I've been googling around and see lots of complicated answers, nothing that suggests to me an easy way to do this. For example, if my output file looks like this:
b1a:] cat test
hello my name is
b1a:]
and I'd simply like to append "Bob", how can I do it? If I use
b1a:] echo Bob >> test
b1a:] cat test
b1a:] hello my name is
Bob
b1a:]
So what I would prefer is some command that would create the result:

Sep 21, 2010I'm trying to convert all file extensions for files in many sub-directories from uppercase to lowercase. I have two problems, how to list the absolute path to the files recursively over many sub-directories for which I so far have this:-

find ~/Photos -print which would be fine, except it gives the directories on their own when it finds them rather than just the files with absolute paths. I couldn't find a switch for the "ls" command to do this, so I had to improvise with "find". and once I get grab each absolute file name, to just change the file extension rather than the entire file, which is what I have at the moment.

First time I opened a ram file I choosed the default player, Reproductor de peliculas (I think Movie player in english).Now when I choose Open with Realplayer and remember the application for this extension it opens the archive but it does not remember for the next times. General :: Appending Acpi=off To Grub Two
Mar 12, 2010I have a Toshiba Satellite L505D-GS6000 it had windows7 on it when I bought it new. Needless to say windows just ran too slow. The only Ubuntu distro that would boot up was Karmic 9.10. I had to append the phrase acpi=off to get the live ISO to boot I had to type acpi=off after the word splash. I saw it would boot so I installed it as the only OS on this computer.
Now when I boot up I am hitting the power button once and the back on again to get to the grub. I hit the E key use my arrows down to the word splash type acpi=off. Then hit CTRL X to boot up. How do I put this permanently into Grub2.

Jun 2, 2010I have about a hundred and fifty html files that I would like to change image file extension on from gif to png. I want to change this line:
<img src="images/robopix/web/ROBOTNAME.gif" border="0">
to this:
<img src="images/robopix/web/ROBOTNAME.png" border="0">
Trouble is that ROBOTNAME is different in each of the hundred and fifty files. To make it harder, there are other gif filenames on these pages that I do not want to change. I only want the extensions to change if the address prefix is 'images/robopix/web/'. Is there any way to do this with a quick program/sed command rather than manually editing a hundred and fifty files?

As far as I know - i.e. for what I have been reading in the documentation - the default application for a given MIME-type is specified by writing into the group [Default Applications] in the mimeapps.list file

I know that M$ Windows Explorer had this capability, but I'm just not sure how to do it in Gnome, or if it's possible. I just want to be able to perform searches for Video, Music, and Document file types, without having to perform a separate search for each file extension. Example: When doing a search for Video file types (.avi,.mp4,.mov,.wma, etc.), I would like to do one search for all files that have these file extensions, instead of doing one search for .avi files, a second search for .mp4 files, another for .mov files, etc.

And if I change it to gedit, all the rdp files open with gedit.
