View 1 RepliesI have searched the whole google but did not find anything. I am trying to install a game server using hldsupdatetool.bin which can be found here, [URL]. Unfortunately it can only run on 32bit Operating Systems. I need it to run on 64bit. What do I need to install? Please be specific since I am really new to linux. Please tell me what I exactly have to type in the command prompt.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter "yum install emacs" & "yum install emacs-ess", I was able to install emacs on my X86_64 running Fedora 10.
If I run one session of emacs everything works fine.
Once I start a second session and try to resize or move the emacs window, the system stops responding.
Was wondering how i can have themes show up for root applications.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a new work laptop (Dell M6400) that I currently have F10 i386 on. I would like to take advantage to the 64bit processor, but don't know if I need to completely re-install my F10, or if I just have to add the proper 64 bit kernel and applications.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Fedora 13beta and KDE on x86_64 arch.
gtk 32-bit apps (eg: acroread, skype) have ugly fonts in their menus.
gtk 64-bit apps look great (and similar to qt apps).
The following packages are already installed:
gtk2-2.20.0-1.fc13.i686
gtk2-engines-2.20.0-1.fc13.i686
qtcurve-gtk2-1.3.0-1.fc13.i686
I just did a clean install of fedora 14 on a dell precision 690 (multiprocessor system, with buckets of memory--16gb). It is old, but a great machine. It is dual boot to windows, but that is probably irrelevant. Note, the reason I did the clean install was the exact problem I report here had cropped up on this system running fedora 14, but I was having kluged together the system after grub issues, so i blamed it on something unrelated and hoped a clean install would solve this.
After installing the system, running updates, etc., I installed open office, and virtualbox. I then set up two virtual machines in virtual box, both Win XP, and added my favorite windows applications. that may not be relevant, but that is the history. I added a couple pieces of high end software too, which required some odd libraries--libgdal and libexpat.
After a couple of of days of using the machine, I tried to run open office (after having used it several times, and logged off several times) and it wouldn't execute. I then realized that all of my desktop icons had disappeared. I then experimented and realized several other applications wouldn't execute from the gnome applications menu. however, I could execute anything I wanted from the command line in a terminal.
I read a suggestion in the forums to create a new user. painful process, but that did indeed solve the problem (temporarily). But then the problem repeated with the new user. So now, this really sucks and I'm cursing fedora. After consulting my linux geek brother, I tried something else--I loaded kde, and tried that. (btw--why doesn't ctl-alt-backspace allow you to switch windows managers in this linux?)
Anyway, kde works fine with everything except open office--it still won't run for some reason, even in kde.
Strangely, my virtual machines worked throughout all this. that is, I could execute virtualbox from gnome, everything runs fine.
Is there a benefit to using KDE applications while running KDE?I've switched from Gnome recently.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to run a library compiled in a 32bit Linux (CentOS) environment on my Fedora11 64bit image. I ran into a few issues with dependencies such as gcc, xml2, ssl plus a whole stack more that existed in /lib64 and no/lib where the binary was expecting them. After a bit of reading around, I found I needed to install the .i586 version of each of the dependencies. After adding most of them, I was left with libssl, libcrypto and libxml2. When I tried to do the following
Code:
yum install openssl.i586
I got an error stating it could not be copied due to a conflict with the i686 version. I was going to erase the i686 but it was going to remove a ton of other stuff so I created a symbolic link in /lib to point to 64bit version. Eventually, ldd had no missing dependencies so I figured I was good to go. I now get the following errors when I call my library
./SupervisionServer: /usr/lib/liblber-2.4.so.2: no version information available (required by /lib/libphp5.so)
./SupervisionServer: /usr/lib/libldap_r-2.4.so.2: no version information available (required by /lib/libphp5.so)
./SupervisionServer: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libpalo_ng.so.0: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied
PHP is installed and working and the libpalo_ng.so.0 is in the /lib folder
I am using Fedora 13 64bit on Dell Vostro full 4GB RAM system with default Gnome GUI.
This is very annoying problem that I don't how to fix except by rebooting the whole PC.
When I have too many applications running ( like browser windows), the system start acting sluggish. The fist symptoms appear in Eclipse IDE which becomes so terrible it just becomes frozen for sometime one whole minute after I try to edit something in the editor. Then Firefox seems like it has crashed. Google Chrome becomes very unresponsive as well. All GUI applications including File manager becomes unresponsive.
When I check System Monitor, the CPU is still around 20% and memory is at 80% but the system seems getting fried up. This progressively becomes worse until I soft reboot it or if I dont do it evetually the whole system is fried, no response to any keyboard key or mouse and I have to hit the hardware turn off button.
I regularly yum update the system but this makes no difference.
Please don't tell not to run too many applications because I need those for my work. I thought Linux is well designed Operating System but I am very disappointed so far.
I find myself in a bit of a pickle. Following a yum update which included FF 3.0.8 FireFox stopped working details can be found in Fedora Bug 494255. To keep going I installed FireFox (from Mozilla) in /home/user/firefox which works great now I've installed all the i386 stuff it wanted, I've got all my bookmarks, saved passwords etc BUT I can't get flash to work. I figured all I needed to do was put a link to libflashplayer.so in /home/user/firefox/plugins/ and we'd be good but when I go to a site with flash content FF crashes. I installed Leigh 123s X86-64 flash rpm and made a link to it as above and got the same result.

View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I want to say that I'm loving Fedora 13. The problem is, I have run Windows 7, Vista, OS X and Ubuntu on this custom set-up. They've all run very fast, without a hiccup, but for some reason Fedora 13 seems to be running very slow. Symptoms include, but are not limited to apps like 'System>Administration>Services' make my CPU run at 100%Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot why it's running slowly?I'm running 8GBs RAM, an E6600 Intel Processor, on a Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p, rev1.1
View 2 Replies View RelatedBeen running Fedora 15 64 for almost three months now, without a single glitch. Boots up fine, runs great, just gets a little slow after running for a number of hours. Rebooting fixes that. Best 64 bit disto around!
View 2 Replies View RelatedOfflate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.
Machine specifications:
Maker: Toshiba
Model: Satellite L305D-S5881
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile Processor RM-70
3072 MB 800 MHz SDRAM
I don't want to open up my machine unnecessarily, if it isn't a hardware issue.
I am not sure how to verify the bit length of the machine and the OS and does it create a compatibility issue ?
Your advise would be highly appreciated.

I am trying to install skype on a 64bit Fc14 and the 32bit doesn't work.

Ive just installed ubuntu 9.10 64bit os from 32bit on 32bit i had no problems with it running quite fast.Since 64bit has gone on everything i do is running slower update manager took 2 hours to download 202 updates in 32bit that would have taken less than 2 minutes i net is Virgin media 54 Mbs so i can count that out always super fast on 32bit.There is also a lag when opening files and folders and loading programs even in software centre surely it should be quicker than this . Everything works skype ..... ( vids work but cant pause or adjust vol on player).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a CentOS 5.5 system that I am able to run fully virtualized 32-bit VM's on just fine, but I have need to run some 64-bit VM's on it. It has a "paravirtualized" option that might possibly work, but it wants a network install path, and I am not sure if this is the actual solution. When I go to create the VM I only have i686 and xen for options on the virtualized method, is there a way to add (I am presuming) amd64 in here somehow? The CPU is definitely 64-bit. My google-fu hasn't found results for me yet.

I've tried disabling all adblock /pop up block options, ensured all javascript options are enabled and no change. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit flash player (installed from leigh's sticky thread) or a problem with OpenJDK?
Only asking if there is any official NVIDIA drivers for 64bit of fedora ?
And, What is the best alternatives ?
Also, What is the best graphics card to use with Fedora 64bit so i buy it ?
I'm a 3D animator and use Blender for all my work. I've been happily using Ubuntu 10.04 without any problems.I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10, and now whenever I click the Blender application file I get an error saying that theres no program set to run this application. I get a similar error when I try to run Voodoo (the open-source camera tracker). Mind you, both these programs ran just fine on Ubuntu 10.04. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
