Does anyone know how to make custom keyboard shortcuts? The commands don't seem to cross over to the system>preferences>keyboard shortcuts utility. For example, I added the file browser to my desktop. I right click, select properties, and the command is:
However, when I add a custom shortcut with that same command it doesn't work.
For example - when coding in Perl, I need to sometimes comment out a bunch of lines.What I do is something like
:80,96 s/^(.*)$/#1/
I want to create a custom shortcut for this so that I can do something like
:80,96 cm
for commenting and
:80,96 uc
for uncommenting.What should I put in my ~/.vimrc?
Is it possible to configure the shell [in xterm, tty, whatever] to recognize custom shortcuts? That is, can I bind any program to Ctrl+X, Alt+X, etc. shortcuts? I know how to do this with Gnome/KDE/Fluxbox, but I'm interested in doing it on a shell.

I'd like to add a new keyboard shortcut to the system, but I've searched the forum, googled, read a couple of linux books and hunted through the man pages and I can't find anything explaining how to do it. I know that the '/etc/init' directory contains the file 'control-alt-delete.conf' for the 'ctrl-alt-del' shortcut, but looking at that file didn't give me any indication of how to create any new shortcuts. Surely there must be some way to add new keyboard shortcuts to a server system.

I have a Acer keyboard (manufacter Lite-On) and seems like I can't get the keyboard shortcuts to work. The shortcuts that DO work are search, CD play/pause/tracks, and Volume.but.. shortcuts for Web browser, email and mute vol don't work. From the many distros I tried with KDE ( openSUSE, Arch, Gentoo, Mandriva ), only in Fedora 12 worked this option, and I hoped it will in F13 too, this is one of the reasons I installed Fedora. View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed F11 on my new laptop (Acer Timeline 3810T) and I have the following issue when adjusting volume. The keyboard shortcuts work, but they don't raise/lower the volume smoothly, instead they do it in 4 or 5 increments total. What's weird is that the notification that appears in the screen when I adjust the volume (the whitish square with a picture of a speaker, I think it's part of Compiz) shows the the volume changing in small increments, but when I get to the 3rd or 4th little increment from the right the volume is already muted. If I look at the alsa volume controls at the same time, I see it changing by the 4 or 5 big increments.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have several partitions on my hard drive, and like to use the 'Create Custom Layout' option during the installation process, to make sure that I don't loose any of my existing partitions or the data on them.
I have attempted a minimal F12 installation from Fedora 12 DVD. But the 'Create Custom Layout' option is not an option in the menu.
How do I install F12 and tell anaconda exactly which partitions I want to use and format?
My current working partition layout is shown in the attached screenshot.
I want to use the following custom partition layout during the initial F12 installation:

/dev/sda11 /var/log/ var-log
/dev/sda12 /tmp tmp
This allows me to share existing partitions between my current working F10 root partition, and the newly-installed F12 root partition. So if there are problems with the new F12 installation, I still have a working F10 system to fall back on.
The other partitions with data on will be mounted when the intiall installation has been completed
I am trying to install fedora15, my devices are as follows:
/dev/sda1- contains windows recovery
/dev/sda2- contains windows vista
/dev/sda3- free space
/dev/sda4- where fedora10 is existing.
Basically I want to scrap the fedora 10 in /dev/sda4 and install fed15 on the place (ext3). During the installation process fedora asked me, Which type of installation you want? I choose 'create custom layout'.
Then in the next window that appeared I choose /dev/sda4. Then it gives me four options like
Create Edit Delete Reset
I want to know what does this Delete mean. What will it do, will is erase all the older partitions within /dev/sda4 i made for fedora10 (previously I made three partitions /boot, swap, /) or will erase /dev/sda4 itself. I am scared to continue installation further.
I have been experiencing some problems with the Keyboard shortcuts in GNOME (Fedora 10 x86_64).The thing is that SOMETIMES it would seem the daemon (or necessary program) to make the keyboard shortcuts work is not loaded when I log in. What happens is that I realize the shortcuts are not working (volume, mute), but AFTER I get in the "Keyboard Shortcuts" window (System -> Preferences -> Personal) something else seems to load in the background (the desktop panels reload themselves) and then the shortcuts work again.To me it seems that some program has to be added to the "Sessions" list of start up programs, so GNOME does not forget to load it from time to time, but I don't know which one.

I don't think I could be much newer to Ubuntu (I only started using it properly an hour ago) and I'm having trouble with the keyboard shortcuts. Nothing happens when I press alt-f2 to run terminal, or ctrl-alt-tab to switch workspaces. I also cannot use the fn keys to dim the screen, change the volume etc

I have recently installed Kubuntu Maverick on my netbook and have decided that I now like KDE again The one bit of functionality that I am missing is the keyboard short cuts of Gnome-Do. So if I type Windows key Em, return and Emacs launches.
The search box in Kubuntu sort of does this. However, I have to click in the box and when I have typed the first few characters I have to click on the icon with the mouse. Is there any way I can do this just using the keyboard and not the mouse? I have searched the help and Googled without much success.

I switched to Ubuntu a few months ago. The only thing I miss from Windows 7 were their new keyboard shortcuts for moving windows between a monitor or multiple monitor.
