Fedora Installation :: F12 Zotac - Only Recognizes Video Of 800 X 600

Feb 2, 2010

I have a quad core computer. The video card, I believe, is a Zotac 9500. I installed Fedora 12 in a dual boot along side Win 7. The problem with the Fedora installation is that it only recognizes video of 800 x 600.

Ubuntu Installation :: Karmic On Zotac Ion 330 Itx-A?

Jan 9, 2010

I've been trying to install karmic from a usb key onto a new zotac ion 300 itx-A board and can't get into the liveCD to test things out. The system boots to the install menu and when I select "Try Ubuntu..." the system hangs on a blinking cursor. This also happens if I choose the "safe graphics" mode.

Selecting "Install Ubuntu" has the same result. I recently used the same usb key to install karmic onto my laptop so I know it works. Searching for "karmic zotac ion" has led me to some posts about xorg not loading but that's after the initial install process and also on an alpha version of Karmic (I'll burn that bridge when i get to it). Others seem to have had no problem getting karmic installed.

I've also tried mythbuntu and 64-bit jaunty with the same results. Is there any way I can find out what's causing this hang? I can't get into a console or anything.

Ubuntu Installation :: Zotac Zbox ION Install Guide?

Feb 6, 2011

I had the bug for a Boxee system. After looking at a bunch of different small HTPC options, I settled on the Zotac ZBOXHD-ND22-U system. Highlights of the box: Dual-core 1.2 Ghz CULV CPU ION chipset, handles up to 8GB of DDR3 (PC3-8500) 2.5" SATA bay
6xUSB2 ports, front SD slot HDMI port, supporting up to 7.1 audio

After a good bit of research, I opted to install Maverick instead of Lucid, since Maverick includes the required ALSA 1.0.23 release. This isn't an utterly complete cookbook. I'm doing this from memory... Here's what I did, roughly in order:

1. Install Maverick via a USB stick (built with Unetbootin). I selected Maverick x86, so I wouldn't have to muck around with the whole 32-bit flash on amd64 business, particularly in an embedded environment.

2. Removed gdm - we'll be booting directly into Boxee here. aptitude remove gdm, also let it remove the dependencies. Later, I went back and removed extraneous packages, like all of the gnome desktop stuff. Seemed fairly pointless to keep it around.

Ubuntu Installation :: Recognizes My System As AMD 64bit

Jan 25, 2011

I just installed it yesterday, version 10.10, desktop edition, downloaded from Ubuntu's site; running it along side Windows; and love it from the get go, but... I can't get the Flash plugin to work.

I'm running a Toshiba Satellite Pro P505-S8945 with this specs:
2.0GHz Intel Core2 Duo P7350 Processor
400GB Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit), 4GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4570 Graphics

I tried installing the 32bit version on Flash but kept getting error messages about "wrong architecture i386", so, I went to the (sorry if i make a mistake I'm paraphrasing) "Ubuntu software center", the application within Ubuntu where you can go to the repositories and get software upgrades, and I realized that for some reason Ubuntu is recognizing my system as running on an AMD 64 processor, which I'm not! Mind you, I haven't tried to install the 64bit version of flash, just wondering really, the reason why Ubuntu would say that I'm running on a 64bit AMD processor!

Fedora :: DVD ROM Or RAM No Longer Recognizes Audio CD

Aug 2, 2009

I've had Fedora 11 running on my PC since shortly after release. I have a DVD-ROM as the Master on the single IDE port on my MoBo and a DVD-RAM as the slave on that port. I also have 4 ea SATA 500GB HDDs using JBOD configuration on the MoBo. When I first installed F 11 I noticed that if I dupped a CD the blank icon would stay on my desktop, even though I had removed it. Also it did not "see" that I had put a new blank in the burner. I would have to reboot to correct. However the system would recognize an audio cd, play it rip or whatever.

Now the first problem I think has gone away but neither drive when I put an audio cd into them will recognize it. The light on the drive will come on and then start flashing as normal, but nothing happens. When I check to see if I can manually mount it, the system comes back with No Media in drive. Anyone have any ideas? This seems to have happened I'd say about 1.5 weeks ago was the last time I know it worked. I suspect an update possibly "broke" something. Any reliable knowledge base as to what actually transpires between the time I put a CD in the drive and the icon pops up and it starts playing or whatever.

Ubuntu :: No HDMI Audio With Zotac Ion Itx G-E

Jun 25, 2010

I recently put together a small computer on which I'm running Ubuntu 10.04. The plan here was to test the motherboard out for use in a HTPC running linux, and using smplayer and vdpau (not exactly sure if that's the way to say it), I'm running video just fine out of my HDMI cable, but I'm not having any luck getting any audio.

My motherboard is one of those Zotac Ion Itx G-E with an NVidia Geforece 9400 thingamajig. Customer reviews on New Egg said it handled Linux and Mythbuntu well, and that was my reason for making this purchase. When I recieved my motherboard, I loaded Ubuntu as the instructions said I should, and then I attempted to load the disc with the drivers and that failed. Apparently, the disc was designed to run in Windows. I downloaded drivers from the Zotac website which were supposedly designed for linux, however I haven't had any luck installing these. The terminal keeps saying I need the installer.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Zotac Zbox (Intel GMA3150) HDMI To TV Overscanning

Sep 1, 2011

I am not sure what to do about my problem so I am making a post. I will point out that I am kind of new to linux, but I understand the basics of command line operation and such, which is why i didnt post this in the beginners forum. I bought a Zotaz Zbox SD-ID12-U, linked below, and am having annoying troubles with the HDMI connection to my TV.[URL]...I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 via USB DVD player -- everything seems to be working except for this. The issue is that through HDMI at 720p it over-scans about 20 pixels on all four sides of the tv screen. In the "Monitor Preferences" it lists only 3 resolution options, all of which have the same overscan issue:

1280x720(16:9)
800x600 (4:3)
640:480(4:3)

The device has an Intel GMA 3150 on it and when I run "lspci | grep VGA" the output is:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) This problem does not exist when I use a VGA cable, which scales the screen properly for a variety of resolutions. I prefer to use HDMI so I would like to resolve this issue. I have looked through the forums but am kind of overwhelmed with this stuff and really dont know where to begin.

Hardware :: USB Hub Only Recognizes One Input

May 5, 2010

I have used Ubuntu and Fedora and am familiar with Linux for about two years now. I have recently installed Arch Linux on one of my computers, and I like the distro so far. However, I am having an issue with my USB hub. When I connect a mouse and keyboard to the hub, the computer only recognizes input from the device that I plug in first when using a window manager (the keyboard always works when I am not in a window manager). If I disconnect one device, the other device starts working. Both devices appear in dmesg when I disconnect and reconnect them. So the computer is recognizing the devices independently, but input from one device is not received. I have tried this on both Gnome and Fluxbox, with the same result. If I plug both devices directly into the computer's USB ports, both devices work at the same time. The hub works on a Windows 7 system and on an Ubuntu system, so the hub is not faulty.
More information: My keyboard is Microsoft Razer Reclusa keyboard. My mouse is a Logitech Wireless Mouse M215.

Below is the dmesg output that I think is relevant to this issue. Here is the output I get when I plug in my USB hub (without anything plugged into it), then plug in the mouse to the hub, and finally plug in the keyboard to the hub:
Code: usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 80
hub 1-4:1.0: USB hub found
hub 1-4:1.0: 4 ports detected
usb 1-4.2: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 81
input: Logitech USB Receiver as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1-4/1-4.2/1-4.2:1.0/input/input96
generic-usb 0003:046D:C526.005D: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [Logitech USB Receiver] on usb-0000:00:1d.7-4.2/input0
input: Logitech USB Receiver as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1-4/1-4.2/1-4.2:1.1/input/input97
generic-usb 0003:046D:C526.005E: input,hiddev0,hidraw1: USB HID v1.11 Device [Logitech USB Receiver] on usb-0000:00:1d.7-4.2/input1
usb 1-4.1: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 82
hub 1-4.1:1.0: USB hub found
hub 1-4.1:1.0: 3 ports detected
hub 1-4.1:1.0: activate --> -28
usb 1-4.1.3: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 83 .....

Interesting to note is that the line that say "usb 1-4.2: reset full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 94" increases in the number of times it appears over time. This happens in both scenarios, with the address number changing appropriately. So for example, when everything is plugged in, and I type dmesg, the line appears five times. Then when I type dmesg again, it appears 11 times. etc., for each subsequent dmesg call until the device is disconnected.
