I got the games working. but their running pretty slow (In certain points, Strangely when displaying messages it goes slow when it disappears it goes at full speed) But fact is... Is there something I could do to get the most out of my graphics card? I'm gonna try ending some processes right now... But there has to be something else I can do... I asked on IRC the best I got was "Buy a better Graphics Card"
I'm having a major dilemma here. Up until about a week ago, my download speed was at a rather nice 160-180KB/s, and I was rather happy with that. But, it slowed down. A lot. now my max d/l speed is about 40KB/s. I download stuff a lot, so having this slow of a connection is torture for me. Oh, and on internetfrog.com on the speed test, it says my d/l speed is supposed to be about 321KB/s and for some reason it can't even detect my upload speed. Strange. Any ideas about it?
I have installed Fedora 15 but find that there is no option for setting the Refresh Rate in Display Settings. This is needed since when I set the Screen Resolution to 1024 x 768, the vertical scroll bar goes out of the screen.
We have a DSL , how can we calculate the available bandwidth so that we can shape the packet, We can assume the bandwidth to be 100mbps on the ethernet interface However, in DSL devices, the train rate(Bandwidth rate ) is varies according to different situation. How can i get the available bandwidth rate(from varies)?. Any method is there for getting the available bandwidth value....
I'm having a problem with my monitor's refresh rate after the most recent round of updates issued on March 6. When I login after a period of inactivity my monitor's refresh rate is set at 60 Hz, even though I always keep it set at 85 Hz.So I have to go in and change the refresh rate back to 85 Hz every time I log in to my computer. This has only started happening after the most recent updates.I tried downgrading X to a previous version but that did not fix the problem. I have an Nvidia graphics card and am using the Nouveau driver. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
I have a FC13 box that has both Gnome and KDE sessions installed.
I have noticed on the KDE session that data transfer rates are slower than when I use Gnome.
In Gnome, I can transfer files between my FC13 machine and my Ubuntu 10.04 pc at a rate of 6.5 MB/s (52 Mb/s if my maths is correct), but in KDE the rate is only 3.5 MB/s (28 Mb/s).
"ethtool eth0" shows my NIC speed as 100 Mb/s. Obviously I am not hitting anywhere near that speed in either session, (a separate article may be happen in the future to address that), but I am curious as to why KDE is that much slower for file transfer.
Im an acid gamer, but I cannot get my Fedora 10 to run ANY games (even other Windows programs wont run properly in Wine) so i was wondering how I could partition my drive to have a Fedora 10 and a Windows xp partition.
like the title says I am interested in just getting rid of windows on my machine all together and want to install some old games that I still play often like:
command and conquer alice city of heros / villians never winter nights postal 2 doom series warcraft "not that ghey wow" lol
was wondering what was the best / easiest way to install each through terminal.
I am having trouble setting my refresh rate higher than 85 hz. Any Way to get it to 100 hz?
Tried so far: - a lot of googling - added a modeline to xorg.conf - reinstalled nvidia driver - tried the screen on a windows desktop, this worked so the monitor is fine
Specs: onitor: Iiyama Vision master pro 510 (should be capable of doing 104 hz at 1600 x 1200, max resolution 2048 x 1536) graphics card: Geforce 9800gt motherboard: p5ql-e Os: Fedora 13
The modeline I tried, tried it both in screen section as well as in a seperate "Modes" section: Code: Modeline "1600x1200_100.00" 280.64 1600 1728 1904 2208 1200 1201 1204 1271 -HSync +Vsync After restarting X the screen only does 1024x768 max because of the modeline
xorg.conf: Code: # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig # nvidia-xconfig: version 256.35 (buildmeister@builder97.nvidia.com) Wed Jun 16 19:15:05 PDT 2010 # Xorg configuration created by livna-config-display
Is it possible to diagnose the cable between the PC and switch using F14 tools? I am suspecting that something is wrong due to <100Mbit xfer rates on a gigabit connection, but can't be certain. The switch is no help as it's a cheapo one with only link/act lights.
Some do. Most don't. (For example FoF launches gives a black screen and freezes Fedora hard-reset needed) I tried a heap of games from the repos. Most of them freeze I wouldn't know where to start to solve the problem.. Also most N64 Emulators don't work so no games or anything is REALLY boring...
While installing the fedora desktop I had unchecked the Games and Entertainment section but I can still see the same Games options available in the menu.
I tried checking the same in the Add/Remove Programs but I was not able to get the option for uninstalling the same.
Games which are present are: AisleRiot Solitaire, lagno, Mines and Sudoku. I would like to delete the games options available.
I just bought a HP 3085dx laptop with an intel 5100 agn wireless card. The problem: copying a big file over the wireless to a gigabit hardwired to the router computer only gives an average 3.5MB/Second transfer rate. If I do the same copy from my wireless-n macbook pro to the same computer. I get a transfer rate of about 11MB/sec. Why the big difference? I noticed the HP always connects to the 2.4 GHZ band instead of the 5GHZ bands...

I am not getting any errors. I don't know why the bit rate is not known. My airport extreme base station typically reports that the 'rate' for the hp is typically 250~300MBi and about the same for the MacBook Pro. The hp is about 6 inchs away from the base station. Is there anyway to get the rascal to go mo'faster? Is there anyway to get the rascal to use the 5GHZ band.
I have in the past few months managed to get several people to switch to Linux just on the merits of its educational programs and games alone. Many people who are interested in educational programs for their children do not know where to find them for windows, and even when they do find them, they cost money, and might be worth nothing. So, i started looking into this on Linux, and did only minimal research on the available programs and games that are educational. I wound up already building 3 new computers that use Fedora, and getting several other people who already have a computer to switch to Fedora, just by making a video on how to use most of the educational programs that are available. This made it easier for those people to learn how to use the programs, especially for those that are not that intuitive, and it also showed them just what was available. [URL]
I've been trying for a couple days now to get netem rate limiting to work on a Fedora 12 i686 virtual machine (both on VMware Fusion and KVM), and have had no success. In order to do outbound rate limiting, I want to use the netem token bucket filter (TBF), as described here:[URL]Unfortunately, attempting to use the TBF results in this error:
My children use the Webkinz web site for fun and games. The site works with other LINUX OS (Ubuntu) , but I can not get it working with Fedora 12 or 13, 64 bit. I have installed flash from the [URL] Fedora wiki and flash works (I have tried both 32 and 64 bit versions). The webkinz site loads, but none of the buttons or games work (Try using the log in button, a new window should open asking for user name and password).
I recently switched my desktop from Fedora to CentOS. On Fedora it auto detects my refresh rate at 85 Hz. On CentOS by default it only allowed 60 Hz. I looked at the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and the display settings were:
My friend bought an old hard drive. He noticed something with the hard drive that it was just replaced with a SATA socket. So meaning, the SATA socket was soldered to the PATA hard disk to replace the PATA socket to SATA socket to make it a SATA.
Now the question is:
1. Does the Transfer Rate of the harddisk (that has been replaced from PATA socket to SATA socket) would be SATA transfer rate? OR would still be PATA transfer rate?
I just got fedora 13 today and put it on a slightly older computer to mess around with it, and two things I realized.
1. I installed Flash player through a program called easyLiving, but when i play flash games online like on armorgames, everything will play fine, but sound will play about 2 seconds late with actions.
2. I can't play .wmv files from my MP3 player, I found some codes online and installed them, but now it just looks like I have 3 different audio players in mozilla and I'm not sure which kind to enable, and I still can't play .wmv movies. (I actually believe that problem 1 is unrelated, because I noticed it before I started downloading different audio players.)
Does anybody know how to measure actually usb mouse pool rate? Maybe some analogue for well known Mouserate checker for Windows? Is it any easy way to change pool rate
i have just installed ubuntu 11.04.The thing is my screen is flickering but i cant find how o set my refresh rate o 75Hz to stop it.In the monitors panel it says monitor is unknown and i can only set the refresh rate as 50,51 and 52 Hz. how to set it to 75
I just did a fresh install of natty on my desktop and at first I had a box bouncing around my screen saying input not supported. I changed my refresh rate from 50 to 52 and it got rid of it, but I still have the bouncing box on the login screen. How can I adjust the refresh rate for that?
This morning I was looking around and went to the display settings and such. And I noticed refresh rate was at 75Hz. I changed it to 85Hz and the screen went black. I tryed to reboot but after I got passed the Login the screen went black again. Now I want to change it back to 75Hz because the monitor wont allow it. How do I change it back to 75Hz from the login screen?
I have a linux box running between my router and my LAN. My connection speed is 10MB download and 1MB upload. The issue is that whenever someone starts to upload something, it is like my connection is down. No one else can open websites, read emails etc.Is it possible to place a limit for upload, maybe 50kb/s? This way, people won't use the entire upload speed available.
I have a LaCie NAS which is mounted on my main linux machine over a wifi LAN using the cifs file system. I would stupidly expect the transfer rate between my hard drive and the NAS to be limited by the Wifi speed (54 Mbps) but when I transfer files, the speed tops at 1.9 Mb/s which is roughly 15.2 Mbps. The most puzzling thing is that when I do multiple simultaneous transfers, I reach approximately 3MB/s in total but none of the individual transfers goes beyond 1.8. Does anyone have an idea about what is keeping the transfer rate so low?
Can anybody tell me what is rate control and rate control mode of operation (in data link layer) in an Ethernet interface?. Does it have anything to do with auto negotiation in Ethernet?
I want to implement rate control over network interface. So I have configured Linux PC as a router with netem installed and having two interface cards.
device1----> Linux router with netem ---> device2
device1 connects to eth0 and device2 connects to eth1 of the Linux router. eth0 is configured to connect to the internet and eth1 has a static IP address on a local network. I want to limit bandwidth on devices connected to eth0.So I applied the below rules using tc and tbf.
