How may I slow down the mouse scroll speed in F10? When I use the scroll wheel, a mere fraction of a turn and I am zooming through a page. I already tried changing some settings in Firefox, per another posting on scroll speed. It did not seem to work.

Fresh install of Debian 8.1, have not changed a single setting anywhere. Was scrolling in the web browser and noticed that if I scrolled up or down fast enough the active window changes. Using kde as the desktop environment. Also this has nothing to do with the browser as it happens with anything I have open. Heck trying to scroll in console and having a document open just flips between the two of them. Only way this does not happen is if I scroll slow enough.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04, and the speed of the scroll wheel is much too fast. It's so fast it's annoying and impossible to work with.I don't see any option which controls the scroll wheel speed.

I don't know what it is called really, but in windows it has a 'fast scroller' when you click down the middle scroll button down and move the mouse down. Is there a way to do this on Ubuntu?

I really enjoyed using Apple's wireless Mighty Mouse and Magic mouse because of their ability to easily touch scroll 360 degrees. Unfortunately, Linux drivers are not provided for these mice.Is there an equivalent wireless mouse that works well in Linux? Ideally with native support or community provided drivers, etc.

I Have Fedora 12 and use the Logitech Marble mouse.
This mouse has no scroll wheel, instead it has two buttons one to scroll up and another to scroll down.
Instead of the usual scrolling, the buttons are acting as if I had clicked the back or forward buttons on the browser.
How can I map the buttons to function as intended?

Iv'e got an issue with mouse speed, on boot the mouse is to fast, so I found that the command
Quote:
slows it down the way I need. But now, each boot I need to run it again. Is there a place where I can put it so it runs every time X starts? Also, googling a bit I found that udev rules can be used instead, but I don't know how to write it as a rule.

I want to ask you it is possible to increase/ decrease volume in debian with mouse scroll. I used Linux Mint and when I put the mouse pointer on the volume icon it was possible to control the volume only with mouse scroll. Now in Debian, first I have to click on volume icon and then to increase volume with mouse scroll.

I have been facing this inconvenience since the first days of my life in Ubuntu, but never thought of any solution to it. Today, while reading a long page of icle in Mozilla Firefox, I badly felt the necessity of scrolling down and up using my mouse's wheel. But it isn't activated by default. I've heard that there is some technique to get this working

I'm using a wireless USB mouse, and whenever I scroll the middle wheel, it will do a PageUp/Down for me. I mean, it is supposed to move the page slightly up/down?
I've check the mouse setting in gnome to find that it only offers a few options like primary key and mouse speed. Is there any way to tune the up/down scale to normal?

however occasionally it will blip and in the middle of a downward scroll it will abruptly scroll upward one or two clicks
( lol not the physical mouse ! but the page )
ive checked the forums and everyone has problems w the 6th and 7th buttons ... and not the scroll wheel
oh and there are specific drivers on the razer website .. but are those safe to use on ubuntu?

When I originally installed 10.04 on a new machine, I was using a temporary PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse. The mouse was a simple two-button mouse. This worked fine. Now, I have moved my Microsoft PS/2 scroll wheel mouse from my previous computer to the new machine, but the scroll wheel does not work. How do I make it work?
I had hoped that Ubuntu would detect my different (new) hardware and configure it for me, but it did not. Googling leads me to xinput, but I can't figure out what to do with that and it indicates it is for 'on the fly' configuration. I want it to be permanently configured. Is there some way to invoke the installation tool again to reinstall the mouse?

I know its possible because 2 days ago the "scroll speed" was perfect. The only thing that has changed is that I have used a different usb port for my mouse now, and I have installed a copy of windows 7 on my second HD. However, after all this, my mouse scroll speed on Ubuntu is unbearably too fast. Its almost half a page for every one "click" of the mouse scroll wheel.

I was wondering if it's possible to change how much my mouse wheel scrolls. For some reason it scrolls way more than is normal (not just in web browsers, but in every application). It works fine on Windows 7, but it seems to not work well with Linux distros.I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed, and I'm using a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000.

I've been having a problem with my mouse ever since installing Ubuntu. I'm using a built in laptop mouse. Whenever I'm using a scroll bar, the mouse seems to become attached to it. When I leave the scroll bar, the mouse seems to be attached to it, dragging the page up or down. Sometimes it does that even when I've been typing after using the scroll bar. I've heard a 3-button mouse is commonly used with Linux. Is that what I need.

I just got my hands on an old RollerMouse from work. [URL] It's pretty neat, however I think it would be killer if I could remap the roller (which is just a mouse) to function like a two-way scroll-wheel, and maybe the buttons as special shortcuts. Does anyone know if this can be done? I figured it's not a standard part of anything, so I'll at least have to make some script or changes to a driver, but I have no idea where to start..

I just switched from Jaunty to Karmic, and in the process of setting up desktop effects, I'm having a hard time with configuring the rotate cube compiz effect. Before, I was able to scroll on the desktop (ie, not over a window/application) to spin the cube to the next face. Now, it seems that I either have to use keyboard shortcuts or lose the ability to scroll in applications.
I've tried enabling the mouse scrolling to button 4/button 5 a la this post, but this doesn't fix the problem. This is one of the few desktop effects that really made a difference in terms of convenience, so I'd really like to be able to fix this setting.

In "xev" I can see that scrolling does not produce any events.

After an amazing ordeal with drivers, terminals, and command-line codes, I finally found an ethernet cable that plugged in correctly, installed the drivers, and now I have wireless! Yahoo!
Now, about another problem...
The mouse scroll wheel speed/line skipping is way too fast. It skips half the page in one scroll! Is there a menu (like Windows) that lets you customize this?
In technical terms, it's a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 with BlueTrack technology.

I'm installed 64-bit openSUSE 11.4 with GNOME. I have a DELL mouse with middle wheel. How do I configure the lines the wheel scrolls? By default it is about 1-2 lines. I need more.
I searched many places. Seems only KDE supports this settings. I also digged up VertScrollDelta in xorg.conf, but the latter is not used currently (not exists in /etc/X11/).

I have a recent installation of openSUSE 11.4_64bit with KDE as desktop environment and like in all other linux distros my mouse middle button has a problem when clicked and dragged. The effect that it does when I click in the scroll button and move up and down is the same as when I rotate the button and it does nothing when I move to the side. Usually in programs like google earth (just an example) this is a very useful function as is used to set direction to navigate and angle and then this setting just does zoom when moved up/down and nothing else. It is also very annoying that every time that I click the middle button in a browser it goes back to the previous search in the default browser search engine. I already tried some setting in yast but no difference and forum search didn't retrieved a lot of info.
