I am trying to setup Postfix along with dovecot on RHEL4. I have done the necessary settings in dovecot.conf, yet I am not able to log into the POP3 server. The error I can see through WireShark/Ethereal is "Err- Authentication failed" Some of the important settings in /etc/dovecot.conf are
I'm using FC8 and have installed a mailserver(postfix+dovecot),when I trying to enable the selinux mode to enforcing and i'm have some issue, the user authentication failed.if turn the selinux mode to permissive, then it work right. How can i to fix this problem?
I am new to to dovecot and would like some help, so please be kind.I have one user that can send mail but not read it either by pop3 or imap.I am running Dovecot 2.0.11 on Fedora 14.
incoming connections are not being reported to my /var/log/secure. I can't see if people are trying to connect. I can't troubleshoot because I can't do anything.
I am running webmin on ubuntu server 10.04lts I have dovecot installed.when I try to check for mail the server unexpectedly terminates the connection. window live mail gives this error, and when i use telnet to try to login and get email it terminates the connection right after i send the "PASS thisismypassword" command.
I've been having enormous problems with pam authentication. I use opensuse 11.1, postfix 2.5.5, dovecot 1.1.7. , ssl, dovecot-sasl. Everything works fine within local network, but I can't log in from outside (using outlook express 6). Output of dovecot -n:
Im using CenOs 5 and have install a mail system(postfix+dovecot),when I trying to enable selinux for enforcing mode and i'm have some issue, the user authentication failed. How can i to fix this problem?
I have Centos ( and Postfix+ldap+dovecot ) TLS works with Postfix and LDAP. When I open evolution mail client I can browse ldap tree and search for users, send-receive mails ...all fine
I just went through a painful upgrade from 8.04 to 10 LTS. I've made a lot of progress but am still having email problems. Dovecot seems to not be able to run, the log is continually reporting:
Aug 22 23:47:34 amd64 postfix/smtpd[22298]: fatal: no SASL authentication mechanisms
When I send an email via TLS I see the following log entries.
Code: Oct 14 11:53:06 ns2 postfix/smtpd[11372]: connect from unknown[172.16.1.159] Oct 14 11:53:06 ns2 postfix/smtpd[11372]: setting up TLS connection from unknown[172.16.1.159] [Code]....
What I'm really curious about is there is an intial TLS connection with a 256 bit cipher, but then.. The last entry states "sasl_method=PLAIN" - so surely this is not encrypted? Or am I misunderstanding how it works?
Situation: fresh dovecot install. I have postfix successfully accepting and delivering mail to a virtual mailbox. I'm trying to pop that mailbox, but it can't see it. I hope someone can point out where my config is wrong.
My company have an Active Directory to authenticate the user. Now we're implementing a web page in a linux webserver using PHP but one new request is to authenticate the user against AD. The problem is that we need to use SSL or another way to make secure the authentication. We don't know if using openldap and php can do this in a easy way.
Im using opennms network configuration backup server called 'RANCID'.It run on top of RHEL5 system and using APache. Here's the link which i'm accessing [URL] But any one can access this URL and obtain my configuration files
I want to secure this using a logon page.allow login Only for the successful authentications by entering the predefined username and password But after get authenticate book marking the above URL still can access anyone since it didnt prompt username and password again In eachtime executing the above url it should direct to authenticate page
we are using linux email server axigen past few years. we keep port open ssh and pop, smtp webmail etc. ssh use for remote trouble shooting. so through firewall it is globally accessable. we notice many attacks coming to our machine, also some people try to enter in our system but failure. as example see below a log come in messages file
Mar 17 09:19:50 sa1 sshd(pam_unix)[21231]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=210.51.13.120 user=root how we can secure more. as per my understanding only good long strong password can stop to prevent from attacks.
I recently installed Fedora 15 now, and during installation I set the internet connection manually, then did update and after reboot, the internet connection settings have been removed. Now I can not set because the network connection to the Internet Connection is inactive. I mention that before the update was functional internet connection.
Using Thunderbird as mail client, I notice an option in the mail account's Server Settings which reads "Use secure authentication" which allow secured transition of your username and password.I also have my own mail server. Hence, how do I enable this functionality for my mail server (I'm using Postfix & Dovecot) ?
I've one big partition that fdisk reports to be this type 88 Linux Plaintext partition here you a full list of partitions type from fdisk help. I need to mount it and read it, but mount command seems to doesn't recognize 88 type. Maybe something could be done with LVM? But I had never play with LVM. To be true I suspect that originally this was handled by some virtual partition or LVM.
have a problem with my network-manager in ubuntu 10.10.when I dial one of my vpn connections, my other vpn connections be disabled and I can't use them!I tried to restart network-manager and gnome-panel, but it does't seem to solve this problem.
I'm an Oracle DBA and started working for my current employer about 4 months ago. This past weekend an alert re: FS space brought my attention to /var/spool/clientmqueue (full of mail re: cron jobs) and the fact that sendmail is not running on our Linux servers.I'm told that the IT security team deemed sendmail too vulnerable so we don't run it.Aside from FS filling up and missing notification of issues with crontab entries, I'm concerned that we may be missing notification of potential issues. In other Unix/Linux environments I've seen emails from the print daemon when it experienced problems with specific jobs.
Are there other Linux facilities aside from cron and lpd that use email to advise the users of possible issues? Are there ways to secure sendmail or secure alternatives to sendmail? My primary need/desire is to make sure that emails regarding issues on the server get to the appropriate users. Secondary goal would be to have the ability to use mailx to send mail out. There is No need/desire to receive mail from outside.
I am trying to setup sendmail on a fc10 box with dovecot running imap. I have everything configured and running on the server. For example, when I run "echo 'test' | mail -s test user@mydomain.com" or even to someuser@gmail.com, the mail goes through just fine. I can then reply from both of those accounts back to the server, no problem.
Relaying denied Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings or contact your network administrator.
I have configured Postfix, mysql and Dovecot according to following guide. [URL] My issue is When I'm Install dovecot ( using yum command). it Didn't create a "/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver" folder. Then my mail.log trace this error message
Code:
May 27 16:36:02 localhost pipe[26056]: fatal: pipe_command: execvp /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver: No such file or directory May 27 16:36:02 localhost postfix/pipe[26055]: CE9768FED3: to=<john@example.com>, relay=dovecot, delay=26, delays=26/0.02/0/0.02, dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (temporary failure. Command output: pipe: fatal: pipe_command: execvp /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver: No such file or directory ) After that I have create "/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver' folder. Then I have set permission using follwing command.
I believe I have everything but this setup, as when I use my Outlook's Test Account Setting, it's able to do the following: 1) Send a test e-mail 2) Connect to POP3 3) See the actual test e-mail at /var/spool/mail/<username>
However, the Test Account Setting wasn't able to authenticate to POP3. I then do the following: 1) Start up Command Prompt. 2) Execute "telnet <server IP> 110". It gives me "+OK Dovecot ready". 3) Type "user <username>" 4) Type "pass <password>". It gives me "-ERR Authentication failed".
Then I searched around and found this. However, I'm not sure if I am able to make any sense out of it.
My CentOS 5.5 is setup with the following standard files: /etc/passwd (password field contains the character "x") /etc/shadow (examining this reveals it's using MD5 has as the password field begins with $1$)
So how should I set my /etc/dovecot.conf? I think it's this file I need to setup to enable POP3 authentication?
Last time I rebooted, sendmail & dovecot started from init and everything worked. I needed to reboot this weekend [new videocard] & yum had given me a new kernel etc.Now.2.6.34.7-56.fc13.i686 running Thunderbird - with 2 accounts chuck@otherserver.com and chuck@localhost. The "otherserver" account works fine. Localhost won't pull in the mail.
Is it fair to say that connLimit and hashlimit are very similiar on Linux i.e. while hashlimit caters to limits for groups of ports, they both set the connection rate limit per host? How in IPTables, do I configure a policy that limits connections on a port that encapsulates the total sum of all connections from all hosts? i.e. I do not want to allow more than 6000conn/minute for port range that is the sum of all connecting hosts?
I have an email server configured with postfix, dovecot, saslauthd and squirrelmail. It works great. In fact I'd even say it works too well: in squirrelmail, I can configure any sender address and my server will accept it. Message will be sent, wether the sender's address is [URL] or [URL]. Is there any way of limiting it in such way that only [URL] is accepted as sender's address?
I wish to setup an email server, using sendmail and DOVECOT on F13 With no modification of the DOVECOT config file ( fresh installation ), I can see that :
service dovecot restart shows me : service imap stop service imap start
