When I highlight text, then click both mouse buttons, I expect the highlighted text to be retyped where the cursor is. It has always worked that way! But in Fedora 15, the two-finger click just summons the right-clicky menu for a microsecond, then hides it. How can I restore the proper operation of the two-button click in Fedora 15?

Usually I use the center button to scroll up and down inside an editor, but when I scroll really fast occasionally I would press down the center button. The editor ended up paste whatever on the clipboard. Is there a way to disable it? I want the center button to function only like a scroll bar, no paste.

I just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSuddenly the mouse middle button paste feature does not work in Bluefish and OpenOffice. It is driving me crazy. I have become so used to this feature I am constantly forgetting to ctl c/v to cut and paste.
It works everywhere else. ( For example, I can use it in this text box that I am typing this message in. ) and when I select text in either Bluefish or OpenOffice it shows up in Klipper. Strangely, if I select that text in Klipper I can paste it into either application with the middle button.
This just started a few days ago. I have no idea what changed on my system. It is a KDE4 desktop, if that is relevant.
i spent quite a while looking for a solution to this but strangely enough no one seems to have had my problem.
using other installations i got quite used to the paradigm selection on copy, paste on 3rd mouse button click.
now i recently installed ubuntu 10.10 and i don't seem to be able to have it working, it seems disabled.
not being too familiar with the system i don't even know what other information could be useful to understand the problem.
I've been using this feature since Win3.1 days. Double-click the menu button on the top-left of the window to close it.It doesn't work for me right now in KDE, and I can't find any option to enable it. Googling gave a few hits of people requesting this feature in gnome, but no clear instructions on how to enable it in KDE or whether it's possible. (Though perhaps my Google-fu is just weak...)

Double clicking on the terminal should select the "word" (and triple clicking selects the line). Many of my files contain special characters such as a "+" sign, and double clicking only seems to select up to the plus sign. (The "+" is useful information, so renaming he files isn't really an option, plus it would take too long).
Is it possible in gnome terminal (or a different terminal - gnome terminal is the default on this system) to reconfigure this so it selects up to the whitespace, rather than the "+" sign?
Since I enjoyed Gnome shell with Ubuntu 9.10 (but Ubuntu runs too slow on this computer for my druthers), I thought it would be fun to check out gnome shell on 11.3. I thought that since my 11.3 has gnome 2.30, that the gnome shell in the software manager would be a concomitant version, so I installed it. I then followed the directions given in the second posting of Enabling Gnome Shell in 11.3?
When I logged back in, I selected Gnome 3 Preview [even though I hadn't thought that that was what I'd installed -- (has openSUSE retired all older versions of Gnome shell?)]. The desktop won't boot (I don't know what the correct way of saying it is). The splash shows, but the icons just intermittently flash off and on at random intervals, never quite making it all the way "on." When I right click the bottom of the screen, I can select "terminal" (when I can accurately coordinate my double-click with the random, intermittent flashing), but then the terminal also does the random, intermittent flashing as well. So I can never get anything typed in. When I reboot, there's no login box.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.
Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.
As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.
I installed KDE on my ubuntu 9.04. I was using kde for some time. Then later on I switched it back to gnome. I found that the shutdown button on the right top of the gnome panel was missing. How to restore it back? and has my gnome panel crashed?

There is just one problem, I am currently waiting for an old Mac keyboard (and Mighty Mouse) to arrive from eBay. The Mac keyboard DOES NOT have a PrintScr button, is there any way I can use one of the dead key's (eg: F13 etc.) and assign that to the program, or can I use one of the button's on the side of the Mighty Mouse (I would prefer that)

It seems my middle mouse button is mapped to something besides a middle mouse click (button 3). For example, to move or pan in apps like Xmind or blender, you need to click on hold the MMB. The app will work like expected for a split second then stop, making it useless.
This is one of the most frustrating issues I find with Gnome/Linux/etc. There is a million places to set global inputs, but no place to find them. I have been through every control panel, every compiz plugin, xorg, gconf etc, and can't find what the MMB is set too (or any other input for that matter). I know that somewhere MMB on a window title bar will send it to the back, but can't find where that is either
I accidentally deleted both my Power button and my System Tray from my Gnome Panels and I can't get them back! I have Ubuntu 10.10 on e-machine T-1221 I can shut down the machine using :
sudo shutdown -h from terminal
I can shutdown using powerbutton on case. I can't use the applet indicator powerbutton in root account, but, I can use the command under "System-->-Shutdown" in root account, but I don't see "System-->-Shutdown" in users account. Is there a way to add it ? I installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 3620 Laptop it works just fine and has the same Gnome Desktop. The only thing different is that there is no powerbutton available thru Gnome applets, only the command on menu under" Sytem-->-Shutdown", which I'm fine with on this machine.

I read the bug reports it stated that on live-cd there was only suspend and hibernate. There is no shutdown or reboot. I tried: "#start acpi", it closed with errors. It said that Ubuntu uses upstart. Is there a script which you can add to power button to add the shutdown.? Really I don't necessarily need powerbutton, I think the work around would be adding the command to "System-->-Menu.
