Fedora :: Connecting USB Drive Results In "Unable To Mount X" "Not Authorized"

Jun 30, 2010

Fedora Core 13 updated just this morning and still having a problem when connecting drives to the system. I believe drives are supposed to be automatically mounted under /media/Vol-Name where Vol-Name is the label on the drive/partition. I, and everyone else logged in, get the following message: Is there some settings that controls this?

Ubuntu :: Unable To Mount - Not Authorized Error With CDs And USB Drives?

May 13, 2010

I am running 10.04 Lucid Lynx 64 bit. Whenever I insert a CD or USB flash drive, I get the error "Unable to mount - Not Authorized". I can, however, mount these things by using the mount command from the console as root. I suspect that either the component of Lucid which is responsible for automounting has a bug, or there is some kind of permissions bug with the way Ubuntu sets up the primary user. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a workaround? Should I file a bug report?

Fedora :: 14 Not Authorized To Mount USB Flash

Nov 9, 2010

New install of Fedora 14, all updates applied. If a USB flash drive is plugged in, get a Not Authorized message when Nautilus tries to mount the drive. The drive does show up in Places in Nautilus. From a terminal window, if you 'su' to 'root', then:

mkdir /mnt/usb
fdisk -lu
mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb

WILL mount the device, can 'cd' into directories, 'ls' to list files, 'cat' the files -- all OK -- so the device itself is fine. But from a regular user account, it will not mount the drive. Did 'chown' on /mnt/usb and /dev/sdb1 so that the user owns everything. The same 'mount' command as above gives the message "mount: only root can do that". Disabled SELinux as a test -- same result. Searched around but only similar problem was in this thread (buried in the middle): [URL] That's where the sequence above was suggested, which does work as 'root'. Where else would permissions need to be set? And what changed? This worked automatically in previous versions of Fedora

General :: Fdisk Displays No Results - Unable To Mount Location

Mar 5, 2011

I've just installed Debian 6 on an old pc so i can use it as a file server. As far as i know installation went fine but it didn't detect my Edimax wireless network card. The problem I'm having is using FDISK. I tried to explore my CD drive and i got an error message "Unable to mount location". I wanted to see if there was an installer to install my network card becuase the manufacturer says it's supported by Linux. When i use the su - command and try using fdisk -l it just displays the command prompt and no hdd info. I tried it the other day becuase I want to mount all the physical drives and one logical volume. This is only the first step for me configuring this computer as a server and i'm suck already and ready to give up and try Windows server (whcih i don't really want to do).Has anyone got any ideas how i can mount my cdrom and why FDISK isn't working?

It mounts from a live CD and all the data is perfectly safe. General :: Unable To Ssh To Server After Key Changes In Authorized Keys

Jan 17, 2011

Facing this issue where I need to ssh from a solaris server to Linux server. The flow is as below:
-Oracle Webserver on solaris server (oracle user) initiates a cgi script
-The CGI script then executes a shell on the solaris server that tries to ssh to linux server

Have already tried the below:
-Checked the permissions for the .ssh and related folder/files
-authorized keys updated correctly
-tried alternative ssh login from another user which works fine

Issue could be-
-I must try the first login manually, where I'll need to enter password and then the solaris server will get registered in the known_hosts of the linux server
-Cant do this because I donot have the oracle user access.

Please suggest a work-around to the issue that can be done from my end.
Or is it that I must simply ask the DBA to execute an ssh from their ends?

Debian :: Unable To Mount Internal Drive And Others

Sep 24, 2015

I can't mount it, and also since apparently debian doesn't care about the nasty systemd but I had to deal with that but I digress.

I cannot mount my itnernal drive, and even memory cards are listed as "permission denied" even though I am part of the disks group. I know that before systemd I could just edit a udisks config file but I cannot find out where it'd even be.

I've included my /etc/fstab.

Code: Select all# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
# device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
# that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).

[Code] ...

I am part of the disks group, and am 90% sure that I edited the udisks file that says something about mount internal disk to allow active from allow_admin

The only udev rules that i've changed was the one to change the mount point for external drives to /media/drive_label instead of /media/$username/drive_label

Basically I'm trying to automount the partition after clicking on it in the file manager.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Mount External Drive?

Jul 29, 2011

Having issues while mounting my 1TB passport USB drive. When running this command....

Code:
sudo mount /dev/sdc /mnt/WD/

I got this error: mount: you must specify the filesystem type I even tried adding the filesystem, which was or is ext4

Code:
sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/sdc /mnt/WD/
Getting a different error instead:
Code:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

I should mention that this was working just a few hours ago. There was a power glitch and my Ubuntu headless server lost power. I turned it on and since then, I am getting this error. I would prefer not to format via GUI .... 1st because I have data there , 2nd, because I don't want to rely on a graphical interface but being able to fix this via terminal.

it says it works fine, but if I add files to it,remove the disk and put it in another machine nothing is on the disk. The files I add to the disk just get added to /media/floppy0 as a normal directory. If I try to umount /dev/fd0 it says the device is not mounted, even directly after I mount it.

# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
# devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#

The above fstab configuration works for me flawlessly on my fedora. I dunno what's the issue here. I don't see any error in the dmesg either.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Mount Volume - Drive Not Found

Feb 18, 2010

I am not well versed in using Ubuntu. I was using Win XP Pro SP3 on my old machine. I decided to make the move to Ubuntu. No problem since all files on the primary drive of the old machine were just OS related. I kept all of the important stuff (music, documents, reg codes, etc.) The computer had no problem importing the songs on the external drive to the music library. I am playing songs and loving it. Now the problem... when I am starting with ubuntu I don't find the drive and I can't mount it.

I get a box stating:
