If I recall correctly, my Squeeze desktop is working whereas my Squeeze laptop isn't.

The VirtualBox website have a 64 bit deb for installation available for AMD64 Lenny but not for Squeeze. Is it okay to install the Lenny package on Squeeze or would this cause a problem?

Added the Repository and installed it (virtualbox-4.0) and dkms.

virtualbox is still not running. I use experimental branch flash is not working now. flashplugin was installed, I restarted my browsers, not working. I tested it with opera, chromium and iceweasel.
My questions are:
How I ever can go back to stable?
How can I make virtualbox run?
How can I make flash run?
I'm using debian squeeze with gnome 2.30.5. When you need more infos or results of commands I give it to you. 2 days of work and nothing is running.
Why are applets not working on Squeeze? They were working in Lenny and work in Windows 7.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am moving over to debian from ubuntu, and the latest install is to an acer aspire one netbook, the wireless card seems to be working and I can see available networks and even connect to mine (with WPA encryption) via the gnome network manager, however opening a browser or pinging both local and external machines all fail. its as if the OS does not not know to use the card. The wired works fine.
If memory serves the card is identified by lspci as Atheros AR5007.
There is no reference to wlan0 in etc/network/interfaces.
I do not have that system on now and have to leave for work, but I can post any further info from conf files etc as required when i get home tonight... Just thought I'd post a quick description in case I'm missing something obvious...
My audio is working, but when i put my usb speaker in it, it doesnt redirect sound to the speaker, just continues to play from the laptop.
In gnome, System->Prefernence->Sound shows the following:

my usb speaker has volume control-up/down, mute, that seems to work, just no sound coming out of it. I am running Squeeze 6.01, kernel 2.6.32-5-686 Also I have 2 computers with squeeze 6.01 installed, both doesnt output usb sound, but the speaker works fine with winXp and ubuntu.

This morning i installed Debian Squeeze and I'm sure it that was a good choice! I got my wireless stick to work (Linksys: Wusb600n v2), installed Chromium, VLC and some other stuff... and ye. I want to get Compiz working on my system! I'm not sure that my current drivers can deal with it, thought. I'm not good at Linux and I don't know what should I install (if there is something) so that I can have get better performance from my video-card. I made HardInfo report of my system. What are my options? How can I make the performance better and, maybe, run Compiz?
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy setup is an HP OfficeJet 4315 All-in-one on a Debian box with the clients using XSANE on Windows boxes.
After upgrading to Squeeze, none of the clients could see the scanner.root could see the scanner from the Debian box.non-root users could not see the scanner from the Debian box.
Obviously, something was wrong with the permissions. After a lot of digging, I found that the /dev entry for the 4315 was owned by root.lp with no world write access.
My solution was to add the saned account to the lp group. I figured that was the most security-conscious way to fix it.
The remote clients can now see the scanner, so everyone is happy.
This may not work for every installation, but for all-in-ones, it probably will.
I have a Fujitsu Siemans Amilo A1630 installed with squeeze and am having problems making the headphone jack work with ALSA, there is no sound from this port and jack auto-detect does not work. All drivers are present and correct and necessary modules for my sound device appear to be loading properly, the device seems fully functional except for headphones.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have debian with kde on a laptop with a built in ps/2 keyboard and touch pad mouse which have been working without problem since i bought the computer. However, recently i booted the computer up and all of a sudden the mouse and keyboard are not functioning. I know it is not a hardware problem because i can type in the BIOS password, make the selection between normal and recovery mode in grub, and can type in all of my passwords to unencrypt my hard drive.
Also, it recognizes the keyboard all the way up until the point where kde starts, at which point it loads a login screen with the mouse and cursor on the screen, but no ability to type, not even caps lock or ctrl+alt+f1 to switch to console mode. does anyone know why this is? I have performed not updates and have not changed the configuration of my computer so i am not sure why this would happen.
P.S.1 out 15 times when i load the part where i need to type in the passwords to unencrypt the hard drive the keyboard will stop working then instaed of with kde.

Also, doing /etc/init.d/start/ gdm3 says Starting GNOME display manager: gdm3 but it doesn't do anything. I tried pressing ctrl+f1 all the way to ctrl+f12 and nothing. What does work however is sudo gdm3 (with the "ati"/"radeon" driver --- nothing works at all with fglrx).

I need help in getting Skype to work with Debian Squeeze.The problem is that there's no 64 bit version of Skype for Debian Squeeze and the other versions (Skype static and Skype Ubuntu 64 bit) makes Skype crash after login. View 5 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to get my WLan working, i do have a Broadcom BCM4312 lpphy WLan-Adapter (pci-id according to lspci -vnn is 14e4:4315) in my Lenove ideapad S12. My System is Debian Lenny, but in order for the WLan-Adapter to work I installed the 2.6.32-3-686 Kernel from debian squeeze (using apt-pinning). I than installed the b43-firmware as described in the debian wiki [URL]. I updated the init-ramfs, everything is working as expected, except for WLan.
It shows up using iwconfig, i can get it up and down using ifconfig (or ifup, ifdown). I can't do a scan using iwlist - it says: % iwlist wlan0 scan > Failed to read scan data : Resource temporarily unavailable
It always fails, but not with the same error message. Sometimes it also comes up with > device or resource busy
Using dmesg I see reports about a fatal DMA error, resulting in a controller RESET. It says it's loading firmware 478.104 .
I recently updated to squeeze following the Debian release note steps, and most everything went smoothly. However, I'm now unable to get into the Nagios web interface. The service is still running and sends email notifications of issues as usual, but logging into the web interface gives me a 403 Forbidden error.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been using my system for couple of weeks, and normally update software when the icon is displayed on top bar (gnome). Last couple of days there were updates for X, and I am not sure whether that is the cause of my problem. Once bootup, I get the login screen. When enter the password the login screen keep coming back. there is no error about any password issue, or anything. It keeps prompt me to enter the password.
I could login back the following way.
1. ctrl + alt + F1 , and login with the same username/pwd as for X
2.change to root
3.pkill gdm3
4.exit from root to user privilege
5. startx
The system starts X correctly and no login screen is displayed. I could use the system as usual.
The only thing I did custom to my system was upgrading to the latest kernel (2.6.38) using the source. This was to get support for my hardware, but that was about a month ago. I do not see anything in /var/log (X, demesg etc).
I'm at the tail end of my upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and I think this sound issue is the last one I have.
As usual I've tried hunting for some answers but it gets very confusing when people are using KDE or PulseAudio or Ubuntu or slightly different configuration to what I have.
My config:
Debian Squeeze 2.6.32
Alsa (just because I was using that in Lenny and it was working, no other reason)
Gnome
Rhythmbox
Skype
Skype is pretty good - it has the sound configuration built in, so I say ring the speakers and it does. I say talk to the headset and it does. Rhythmbox is my music player (again just because I was using it under Lenny) however it only wants to play through the headset. I can't seem to get it to play to the speakers attached to the rear port.
Summary of some settings (transposed manually)

I am trying to get my Behringer UCA202 USB sound card working on Debian Squeeze. Under lenny I can get the card working perfectly using modprobe snd-usb-audio then alsaconf. On squeeze however, I did the same thing and followed the debian wiki instructions, but while I can view the card to pull up in alsamixer no sound will play and under "item" both dB gains are stuck on 0.0 despite the channels being unmuted and the volume being up.

[EDIT]: I solved this problem by changing the line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf "options snd-usb-audio index=-2" to index=1. I am not sure why that made it work though since I thought that line only changed the priority of using the card.

I have XP and win 7. I want to triple boot with Debian.When I install, grub finds win 7 and XP and says everything should be fine, but then when I boot, only debian appears.This was fixed by doing update-grub2 after logging in.Now, I have win 7 bootloader as an option. However, when I boot into XP, and then reboot, grub disappers. he screen just says welcome to grub and then a blinking cursor.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI finally installed Squeeze on my laptop and found out that the XF86Audio multimedia keys do not work.
When I press them, they're correctly identified by xev but they do not produce the desired effect (raise/lower/mute volume, play/pause/stop/prev/next song in media players like Sonata).
Funnily enough though, they do work in Audacious, which has its own plugin to manage XF86Audio media keys.
So it's like the action of pressing these keys is not intercepted by the system and no event is triggered.
I think this might be due to a missing package or configuration but I have no idea where to look...
