Apr 20, 2011I tried playing some rmvb videos. I can hear the audio but there is no audio. I followed a few theads related to this but it still hasn't fixed my problem.
One thread says all related packages must be from packman. I have this currently

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: 11.3 - Cannot Play Files With External Subtitles In Kaffeine
Jul 22, 2010I'm using openSUSE 11.3 for my laptop and Kaffeine built in as my player. But when I tried to play any files with external subtitles, there is nothing happened. The drop-down list of subtitles is just gray and cannot be used.
So I have two questions:
(1) Can Kaffeine built in openSUSE 11.3 load subtitles automatically?
(2) If it cannot, how to load subtitles manually?
OpenSUSE :: How To Get Kaffeine To Play Wmv
May 7, 2010I'm running Kaffeine on openSUSE 11.2. (The version of Kaffeine is whatever was included in that distribution.)
I noticed Kaffeine does not play wmv files. An "error" message appears with no details when I try to play one.
So I followed the instructions in the Kaffeine FAQ on how to add support for wmv: It's supposed to be a simple matter of downloading the win32 codecs and extracting to /usr/lib/win32 (see FAQ | Kaffeine - KDE Media Player).
Still doesn't work. I tried extracting the codecs to usr/local/lib/win32 (this folder is mentioned in codecs README as another possible location).

Fedora :: Kaffeine DVB Will Not Play Display / Resolve This?
Jun 30, 2010I had a fully working fc12 using Kaffeine to get DVB-T using a Nova T-500.
After installing and updating latest fc13 (and Kaffeine) I cannot get it to see the TV. It has scanned Ok and the TV card is detected OK in warm state.
As I also had no sound I looked at the differences in the sound GUI between my fc12 and 13.
Kaffeine is detected in fc12 but not shown in fc13.
Just tried Totem Movie Player and tried to tune the DVB-T but it gives a gnome DVB failure, so my problem is in fc13/Gnome.
Could someone advise me as wht I can try so that I can continue using Fedora?

Nov 26, 2009I have recently installed 11.2. I am having some sound woes. Vlc plays CDs and DVDs but Kaffeine won't. KsCD won't play CDs. When I try to use Kaffeine to play a CD I get:
Cannot find input plugin for MRL [cdda:/]
Opening kaffeine in the terminal gives:
user@linux-kxg1:~> kaffeine
user@linux-kxg1:~> CDROMREADTOCHDR: No medium found
CDROMREADTOCHDR: No medium found
When I try to use Kaffeine to play a DVD I get:
Cannot find input plugin for MRL [dvd:/]
Do I have to add anything to /etc/fstab? /dev/cdrom and /dev/dvd are pointing to /dev/sr0, but these apps are not seeing the device.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Playing Audio Cd's In Kaffeine But It Does Not Play Properly - No Sound
May 8, 2011I have just installed 11.4 64bit and duly followed the sticky guide for getting the required multimedia files installed. I find I have a problem with playing audio cd's the only program which will play an audio cd is Kaffeine but it does not play properly - it plays a few bars then silence, plays a few bars then silence and I can find no way of getting it to play without interruption. There are no sound problems with Kaffene when using it to play digital tv or dvd films. I have tried KsCD, Amarok, Mplayer, SMPlayer, and GNOME MPlayer none of which can I get to play a CD. With Amarok there does not appear to be a setting to play a CD as soon as it is put in the drive it would appear that you have to generate a playlist first, I can show the list of tunes on the CD but that's a far as it goes they will not add to a playlist or play.
Have just found the player Clementine which apparently is based on Amarok. Although not providing a direct play facility I was able to load the cd to the playlist then play the tunes. This may be a clue to my problems in that I noticed that it had to mount the player first. Is there a setting for auto mounting?Ideally I would like to put an audio cd in my player and have it play automatically without me having to do anything. Is this facility available in 11.4 and if so which program do I need to install?

I have installed all libsox packages I could find, including libsox-fmt-mp3 and libmad0.

The reason I try to play mp3 files with sox is that I wanted to play a playlist with different formats and feed it to ices2 through a pipe, ie :

May 20, 2011I've just installed a nas on my system. All is ok apart from Kaffeine. It will play the file from the home dir, a usb disc but not for some reason the same file over the network located on a nas. It come up with the following error message:
The connection was configured as a MS Windoze network drive.via dolphin. No problems with compressed,pdf or doc files or copying etc just playing an avi with kaffeine.

Sep 25, 2010but after a forum search I only found one similar thread, but seemingly the issue was not totally solved. I just would like to suggest a solution (well, most likely a workaround) for .rmvb Real Player movies which don't work well on Kaffeine, without need to install other players or applications.I first saw many people had similar problems as me: Real Player movies just played sound but not video, or viceversa. I first tried installing w32 codecs, but this seems to be the good solution for 32 bit users, I use 11.3 x64 and didn't work for me. After some Google search I came to this page:Index of /pool/non-free/w/w64codecs/
Seems to be a Medibuntu repository, and I looked for a .tar file, since I was looking for a "w64" version of the codecs. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file found on the page, the 20071007 one and uncompressed it. It has some codec files and a Readme which tells where to put the files. After that done, without rebooting Suse, I tried again to play the movie, and Kaffeine finally played it well, although now it pops a message saying Kaffeine closed unproperly whenever I close it after having played a .rmvb movie. I think that can be solved by updating Kaffeine, but haven't tried that yet

It seems I can play at least an mpeg movie, and mp3. But I find the quality of sound of the mp3 in kaffeine very poor. Yes, it plays, but some mp3's are struggling the first 10 seconds or so,, eg, Shivers - Armin van Buuren. When I play the same mp3 in xmms, it plays like a charm. That's not what I want, I want an all-round multimedia player. Xine does the job very well,, like xmms,, and plays also the mpeg, but unfortunately, xine shows an error message about a segmentation fault, upon exiting xine. Any hint to play mp3 files in kaffeine like xmms does?

Dec 29, 2009I have just installed openSuse 11.2 (64bit), and I installed the avi codecs as described in Restricted Formats/11.2 - openSUSE-Community with the 1-click installation for KDE. But kaffeine and xine are crashing when I try to play avi files.One thing I found out is that all packages are 64 bit packages only the w32codec-all version is 20071007-0.pm.1.1-i586 and I don't get offered a _64 package. Is this OK? What else could be the problem

Debian Multimedia :: FLV Flash Files Won't Play In VMware Workstation
Dec 15, 2014I created a vmware workstation Debian 7 virtual machine from a debian-7.7.0-amd64-CD-1.iso.
I can play flash video streams from within the browser, i.e. YouTube plays fine. However, if I download a YouTube video, then try to play the flv file, it will not play from a media player.
I either get an "error cannot decode" or just a green screen during playback when using Totem or VLC. I've tried installing about every package out there, yet flv files will not play in any media players.
I also tried running the VM with and without 3d support. It won't play flv's either way.
Is this an issue between a vmware vm and Debian 7? Any success story playing flv files from within a Debian vmware virtual machine?

Oct 21, 2010Recently upgraded to Squeeze, and have a problem with Devede I haven`t seen before. When I try to convert three avi files to play on a standard dvd player, the finished ISO is still only 2,2 GB. It turns out only the first file gets included in the ISO, even though I can see Devede processing all files during conversion.

Jun 29, 2010When I put a DVD in my DVD drive I cannot get Ubuntu to play it, not with VLC, Enna, Boxee or Movie Player, with movie player I get "An Error Occurred Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file."
With VLC I get some very slow jerky playback that crashes when I go full screen.

May 16, 2010I am unable to play audio CDs. I have 2 CD drives and upon insertion of of a CD into the top drive, it notices the CD and asks what I want to do... Play with Kaffeine results in it opening, but then nothing happens. When I do the same thing with the CD in the bottom drive, it plays the first track of the CD but nothing else. Every time. With different CDs.

One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
