I'm curious if anyone know how to plot stem-and-leaf plot using perl? Basically, what I was wanting to do is read a bunch of numbers from a text file into an array, sort from smallest to biggest, and plot the following (last digit serves as the "leaf", so for example, for the following graph, going down from top to bottom is 7, 7, 12, 13, 18, 18, 23, 25, 27, 27, 27, 27, 27, 27, 28, 28, 29, 59, 30, 31, 31 etc.):

It's been a while since I did any kind of graphics programming, but I would like to start learning how to do graphics stuff in *nix. I started reading the GTK+ 2.0 Tutorial, but a) I've only been able to write a small "Hello World" program, and that tested my patience, and b) I'm not seeing anything which allows you to plot a pixel directly. Back before I migrated to Linux, I used the Windows GDI SetPixel() function for plotting pixels sequentially (this was for a small fractal generator). Mostly what I'm asking is if there's any kind of equivalent function in *nix graphics APIs? GTK+? Would I have to deal with SDL/OpenGL?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to gnuplot linux based plotting tool. I am trying to plot data from multiple data files and I want each plot to be open in a separate window. This is not happening in gnuplot script I have written, it holds the current window and plots the next data on the same window.A way I found to see separate plots was to use multiplot, but this plots multiple plots in the same window. Can someone tell me how to plot multiple plots in separate window in gnuplot? I could not find the answer in documentation/man pages.

I'm running Maverick on an HP dv6 laptop. I tried recording a video via VLC with the machine's 'TrueVision' webcam. The result seemed to lack audio, so I had a look in preferences > sound. The input tab had the mute button ticked, so I unticked it and tried adjusting the level (while realising I was probably just configuring the mic port and not the webcam's inbuilt mics).
Then things turned bad: pointer became sluggish, and changes I made to the level slider took ages to be reflected visually on screen. I queued up a pile of clicks on the 'close' button and went away for a while. On return, I was met with a box inviting me to stop a script with some screen-width-long incomprehensible name, which of course I did.
Now the system's in a state which sees windows missing title bars (tho' not menu bars) and (more problematically) the upper and lower bars on the desktop absent. I issued a hibernate command from the terminal in the hope that on waking the system would be 'fixed', but nothing changed. I tried alt-tabbing to access my open applications and close them gracefully but this command is ignored. I have 'zillions' of apps going with unsaved data and am not sure what to try next. I'd be happy just to be able to task switch to each open prog and exit it gracefully then restart. But my knowledge of the command line is such that your help is required =) .
The current Octave 3.4.0 on Fedora 15 is giving me an "out of memory" message when I plot certain data. See example below. It depends on the range, and the particular function. Anyone else get this behaviour?

I use udhcp with some of my minimal installs. I've messed around with the code a bit when it wasn't working correctly - a few years ago. I will find time - I hope soonish - to figure out how to do a few other things with it.
For now though, I'm using this string to grab my ip after startup
Code: Select allsu -c 'ifconfig eth0&&ifdown -a&&ifup lo&&ifup eth0'&&/sbin/ifconfig eth0
I realize I could substitute ifup -a but I'm more interested in figuring out how to make ifup wait for the ip to become available if it is not available yet.
Never mind that one, just typing out the question answered it for me, when I find it in the scripting man ' ; : " & =
Or if there are any other suggestions for better construction of the string.
Running under Debian oldstable:

#include <GL/glut.h>
void init(){
const GLubyte* version = glGetString(GL_VERSION); // line 2338
printf("version = %s
", version);

The gcc compiler gives me:
code.c: In function ‘init’:

I want to make a little script/program/something that can organize my TV show collection. I'm italian, so I store for each episode the .mkv file and the .srt file. To let VLC automatic recognize the .srt file, I use the same name for the .mkv and the .srt.
That solution is quite optimal, but we can do better: a program that watches a directory and it's subdirectories and automatically runs mkvmerge if it detects files with the same name in the same folder.
I'm a Java programmer, so I can easily make a program that finds files with the same name and runs mkvmerge.... My problem is the directory listener. I found incron, but the problem is that it don't add the listeners to the subfolders of a folder.

I am trying to cross-compile my Qt application for armhf on Jessie, so what I did was install qt5-default:armhf, but when I tried running qmake I found out that it contains also an armhf version of qmake so I was not able to run it.Then I installed the amd64 version to have at least a runnable version of qmake, but it was only to find out that qmake contains only hardcoded paths, so I could not use it for the armhf libraries, well I could but I had to run qmake (amd64 version) and afterwards open the makefile and change all paths from amd64 to armhf.
But as this is not so convenient I was wondering if there is a normal way to do this, I know you can compile the source yourself but I had quite a lot of problems with dependencies there. Is it possible with the standard repository binaries or should I just go back to compiling the source myself? Maybe I can compile only the building tools without building all the libraries I already got from the repository.
I am trying to build a socket to retrieve the ethernet packets from ECU(I do not know much about the ECU). When i run my code on windows there is no problem and the code runs correctly. But when i run my code on Debian it gets stuck at s.recv(1024).
I have already set static ip in /etc/network/interfaces as follows:
Code: Select alliface eth0 inet static
address 160.48.199.91
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 160.48.199.254
The simple code is as below:
Code: Select all import socket
import sys
HOST = "160.48.199.91"
port = 30490
s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_RAW, socket.IPPROTO_UDP)
s.bind((HOST, 30490))
while True:
data = s.recvfrom(1024)
print(data)
There is no LAN or Router. When i check netstat -s i see that there are 0 UDP and 0 TCP messages received. But when i check in Wireshark on Debian i could see the displayed UDP packets. Does it mean that the UDP packets are reaching the Raspberry Pi but not received by Debian ? Or are these packets being dropped?
I’m new to C programming so I wrote the following program to see if everything I needed to write programs with GCC and the standard C library was already installed. I am having issues in OS 10.10.5, where I am unable to build and compile some simple code, either using Xcode or Sublime text. I decided to install Linux Mint in Virtual Box to see if it would work.
Code: Select all#include <stdio.h>
void main()
{
printf("Hello! This is my first C program with Linux Mint
");
}
For some reason, I'm getting the following error:
mint@mint-VirtualBox ~/Desktop $ gcc hello.c -o hello1
hello.c:2:19: fatal error: stdio.h: No such file or directory
#include <stdio.h>

I'm trying to package a Qt application using debuild. However, I can't figure out how to make qmake generate a correct Makefile.
The main problem is that the binary doesn't get put into ./usr/bin inside the .deb.
So dh_shlibdeps always fails and I get the following:
Code: Select alldpkg-gencontrol: warning: unknown substitution variable ${shlibs:Depends}
dpkg-gencontrol: warning: unknown substitution variable ${misc:Depends}
The resulting debian package then has an empty "depends" field and no binary.
I used the Qt Hello World example application to start.
I changed debian/rules (generated by dh_make) so that it runs qmake as follows:
Code: Select all#!/usr/bin/make -f
# -*- makefile -*-
# Sample debian/rules that uses debhelper.
# This file was originally written by Joey Hess and Craig Small.
# As a special exception, when this file is copied by dh-make into a
# dh-make output file, you may use that output file without restriction.
# This special exception was added by Craig Small in version 0.37 of dh-make.
# Uncomment this to turn on verbose mode.
#export DH_VERBOSE=1

I'm guessing, Python didn't come with the Distutils that I need. I'm new to Linux and I got some Problems with Eclipse. In my Code im trying to include <sys/stat.h> and <sys/types.h>, but Eclipse can't resolve the inclusion. I added the following Paths under Projcet > Properties > Settings > Includes :
/usr/include
/usr/include/c++/4.7
/usr/include/c++/backward
/usr/include/c++/4.7/x86-64-linux-gnu
/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/sys
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.7/include
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.7/include-fixed
/usr/local/include
I googled much, before i opened this thread. There was a post, which said i should look for the paths with this comand: echo "#include <sys/types.h>" | gcc -E -x c - | grep types
The resolution was this Path: /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/sys which i included, like you can see above.
Some Background Informations: The code, which doesn't work is from a team mate of my group. We have to write a Compiler, and he wrote the buffer. And there he is using functions like fread, fopen and fclose. These funcitons are marked as errors, i think it's because the Headerfiles aren't found.
