this seems silly but I am changing ISPs and need to change my notification email address (for here). Under User Menu -> Edit account it shows my email but does not allow me to change my email. Since I am able to post I assume I am logged in correctly. So what did I miss?

DNS is working fine so there isn't a problem.
[root@hn1 /]# host -t mx iol.co.za

Yet when I try to use mail it fails:

i have a small issue, to make our network more secure, i now require outgoing email to require authentication. Now the problem..i have a automated mailer that does not have the option to authenticate. is there a way to allow a certain email address or the local network to send out without authentication? If i cannot do this for a single email user to allow them through with authentication, how would i remove the authentication paramaters in the postfix smtp..

The issue is if any one send email to abc@ourdomain.com (abc@ourdomain.com the email address which is not exist) it should send failure notification i.e."email does not exist" to the sender. I've not been having any luck at all finding the answer to this, so thought I'd ask here: is there any way to get my servers to send an email when someone logs in through SFTP? I was able to get that to work with SSH using a simple bit of script in /etc/profile, but I can't find anything on Google about doing that with SFTP at all.
The OpenSSH version on my server is 5.2p1 running on FreeBSD 8.0. Any way to get the server to execute any command on SFTP login will be enough for me to get this set up.
I have a fresh installation of Fedora 14 and Evolution email notification plugin don't work. Someone else have this problem?

There's been no problem with this for ages; but today I got an email 'Delivery Status Notification (Failure)' - because of a failed job, Anacron had tried to send a message to 'root@machine'. I've checked /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname, and in both locations the computer's name is correctly configured as 'deimos'. Where else should I look?

I have a setup with Centos 5.5, Nagios 3.2.3, sendmail 8.13.8. When a insident is happening Nagios notify-by-mail is triggered and Nagios sends via sendmail. Unfortunately there is a trailing $-sign added to the $CONTACTEMAIL. Sendmail cannot mail to xxx@mail.address$
A hack is to insert mailaddress in misccommands.cfg but I would like to have a more clean way.
Nagios has been up and running for quite sometime now and no issues till this month. For some reason, Nagios kept failing to send notifications out to our department. Out of curiosity I've sent the email out manually and tailed the mail.log then found out that every email being sent is getting a "Connection Refused." Can this be a permission issue? If so where and why all of the sudden it just stopped working as none has changed in the OS (Ubuntu Core).

After I put a virtual machine named VM01.Initially it worked properly, I tried everything and it worked.When rebooted, I had problems with the network.I have two network cards eth0 and eth1, but eth1 does not have any ip and I use only eth0.The error that appears is:

Changing the brightness and keyboard brightness does not give a notification, though the brightness changes. In addition, ejecting a cd, plugging in a usb device, and seeking/playing music gives no notification (though Rhythmbox tells me what track I've skipped to/played). Again, the cd does eject, the usb device can be accessed, etc. I'm not sure if this last one is a problem, but every notification except for the volume one appears about 80 pixels down from the top panel. This 80 pixels below the panel is only ever occupied by the volume notification. Ubuntu 10.04, gnome-power-manager 2.30.0 ubuntu1, notify-osd 0.9.29-0ubuntu2. I'm using a Dell Studio 1555 notebook.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've gotten myself involved in the Nagios monitoring tools and somewhat managed to configure the Nagios host, but I'm still having some issues with the email notifications.
From what I've read/researched, one of the favourite methods to get the email notification up is by using sendmail/postfix. I've went through it and learned that they are MTAs. What I actually needed is just a basic email client, and I would email the notices directly to an email address over the internet. Thus, I wont be needing something as complex like sendmail/postfix.
I gotten my hands on "Nail mail". I've successfully configured it to be able to send emails from my linux machine over the internet. However, when I copied the same command lines to nagios's contact.cfg, it did not work.
This is the command line that I'm using. Let me explain what I'm trying to achieve below. Firstly, I would save all the text notifications into a text file(green), and then email it out. The problem is NailMail command (red) does not work on Nagios,but the command line works in the terminal command on my Nagios account. Has anyone attempted using Nail mail with Nagios?
Is there some kind of Ubuntu desktop application that notifies you when your WAN ip address has changed? I don't care about my LAN ip address. I need some kind of popup on the desktop when my ISP assigns the next dynamic WAN ip address.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I need to adjust my network settings (rc.inet1.conf) on the fly, like if I need to be in the local network of a router I just bought (192.168.1.x), in order to change the subnet to the rest of my network (192.168.0.x), then I need to adjust the ip address of my slackware box. Up till now I have rewritten the rc.inet.conf file and then restarted the computer. I am almost positive that restarting is unneccesary, but I have not been successful in finding any other method. Maybe I am using the tool wrong, but I have tried using wicd to disconnect and then connect again once I change the rc.inet1.conf. I don't think it worked. I think I have also tried issuing a rc.inet1 restart. But I don't think that this changed my ip address either. How do you change your ip address on the quick without restarting your box?

I want to share 3 email addresses and an address book among 2 users on a small network with 3 computers. Emails come from 3 different POP email accounts. There are 2 users.Each user may use any of 3 computers on the network (2 computers are linux, one is Windows XP). The 2 users have separate userids on the linux machines, but share an account on the Windows machine.
Each user should be able to view, reply to, delete, and otherwise deal with emails from any of the 3 POP sources, regardless of which computer the user is logged on to. Also, each user should be able to view and update entries in the address book, regardless of which computer the user is logged on to. What about using a system like courier or egroupware to retrieve and store the email from the 3 POP sources? Then courier or egroupware could make its mail store (maildir?) available via IMAP to the 2 users via email clients on each of the 3 computers.
The mail would be stored in the single, unique, courier or egroupware maildir store, not in the email clients. So if any user deletes a message or replies to a message, the action is visible to the other user from any computer. Also, emails only need be deleted once, not multiple times from each email client. I have looked at the courier and egroupware documentation, but I can't figure out whether either of them can be set up to retrieve email from 3 POP sources? If they can, how do you do it?
They appear to be email servers that collect emails sent to the domain they are configured to serve? could email clients be setup to share a single mailbox and address book (at least on the linux machines. forget about Windows). I guess the mailbox would lock when any client opened it, so only one client at a time could be active.
My Ubuntu One account. I had intended to change my email address, but after entering the second address, I find I cannot delete the original. I have the second one set to my primary, but I can still log in with either. I'd like to be able to permanently delete the first.
