Ubuntu :: Postfix / Dovecot Config - Send Mail From Iphone Using An Account On Server Doesn't Work
May 15, 2010
the mail server itself will receive mail, that part works. i'm using dovecot imap to grab my mail, that works. but if i try to send mail from my iphone using an account on that server it doesnt work. this is what i see in syslog: May 15 07:14:52 coax postfix/smtpd: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from mobile-166-137-139-003.mycingular.net[188.8.131.52]: 450 4.1.8 <firstname.lastname@example.org>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found; from=<email@example.com> to=<firstname.lastname@example.org> proto=ESMTP helo=<[10.25.15.47]>
I got a request today from someone on the software development team that reads as follows: Quote: According to RFC 4409 client mail submission to an email server is supposed to use port 587. Server to server SMTP relays are to use port 25. When I am not on site, I can't email via my work account via my iPhone or my residential internet because my ISP(s) filter port 25 to only allow traffic to and from their mail servers. They do however allow 587 anywhere per RFC 4409. Just to send this email I am having to relay off my own server in California. get the proper ports opened on the mail server? [URL] So my question now is I'm wondering if my Postfix server isn't properly configured? Right now it's listening on the following ports:
I'm running a server with Ubuntu 10.04 and I have installed postfix and courier. The server can recieve mail and I can fetch them using POP, but when I try to send mail it doesn't work. Postfix itself can send email if i telnet from localhost and I am using my ISP as a relay because they block port 25. I'm using outlook 2007 on my client computer and it just says that the server rejects the login attempt and tells me to check my username and password. Postfix listens on port 12 as well because the client connection also has outgoing on port 25 blocked. I have tried to use telnet to connect to the server, and I can connect. This is what I get:
Now what? I've tried searching for the answer but all I can come up with is AUTH PLAIN or AUTH LOGIN, but I don't know what to type after that.
i installed a new server ubuntu server 9.10 with lamp, etc.
after which i followed the following tutorial to setup
Postfix, DoveCot, Squirell
It was working fine till here. After which i installed the spamassain which also got configured perfectly.
I can send only 1 or 2 mails after which i get error
here is my confid file of postfix
# See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first # line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default # is /etc/mailname.
nstalled Postfix + Dovecot + Roundcube on a plain CentOS 5.5 box, let say on "site.com".I cant send or receive emails. When I try to telnet from both localhost and from the outside world, it can not reach the mail server.Testing itself on port 25:
I've been trying to send mail to email account even after installing postfix but am not able to do so.My distro is Centos 5.4. I followed the Centos user guide to install and configure postfix into the server,
Code: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix but still didn't receive any email.
When I send an email via TLS I see the following log entries.
Code: Oct 14 11:53:06 ns2 postfix/smtpd: connect from unknown[172.16.1.159] Oct 14 11:53:06 ns2 postfix/smtpd: setting up TLS connection from unknown[172.16.1.159] [Code]....
What I'm really curious about is there is an intial TLS connection with a 256 bit cipher, but then.. The last entry states "sasl_method=PLAIN" - so surely this is not encrypted? Or am I misunderstanding how it works?
I've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.
Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.
I am running Fedora 10, Postfix and Dovecot I recently changed the password of a user using the 'passwd' command. The problem is that the user can no longer receive their email messages in Thunderbird (Authentication Error). However, they can still login using SquirrelMail and get their mail.
I'm running SUSE linux Server version 11. I want to configure mail server with postfix & cyrus-imap. For that, i have read many documents in Internet by i met issues. I'm running DNS in this server & it's ok Now I cannont send mail through command line.
I'm somewhat familiar with Linux and became pretty decent at installing and configuring packages in Ubuntu. One of the things I was able to do with my tinkering was set up a functioning imap and pop3 mail server using dovecot-postfix. Now I'm experimenting with Slackware to get the feel of another distro, and I noticed that the mail server packages were already installed. On my client computer they can pick up that I have users configured and my mx record is working.
However it is failing to send mail saying that it is failing to relay the e-mail message and that the server responded 5.7.1 which was a problem that I was having in Ubuntu when first configuring the mail server. The fix was to edit the postfix.conf file and adding the localhost name of my server. Does anybody know of the file that I need to edit to make it possible to relay my messages with both pop3 and imap.
Having my Diploma Final Project on setting up a virtual mail server within Local Area Network (LAN) only.I had follow this how-to http://www.linuxmail.info/squirrelma...o-in-centos-5/ and complete up to squirrealmail web mail. I added two new user to try on sending and receiving mail. It works.I run CentOS on VMplayer. I using my laptop to do all the stuff, the laptop default OS is windows 7, i install VM player on it and run CentOS inside the VM Player.I want to do testing on Windows 7 side by installing Thunderbird email client program, i want to connect to mail server with SMTP, IMAP/POP3 using the email service. I have problem while setting up user account on Thunderbird, Thunderbird seems like cannot detect my CentOS mail server. How ?
Do i have to do any other configuration on CentOS ? any DNS ? port number for IMAP,POP3 or SMTP ?
I just set up a new email server on Debian Lenny. It's Postfix for MTA and Dovecot for IMAPS server. I use Dovecot for authentication. I have two UNIX users on the system (except root), one was added before the installation of Postfix and Dovecot. I'm not doing any virtual things, just plain UNIX users and one domain on a dynamic IP. The first user, "webadmin" can send and receive emails just fine through the server from my mail client.
Now I just added a new user, "scarleo", and it turns out I'm unable to send and receive emails with this account. If I log in (SSH) with scarleo I can use bash mail to send emails, works fine. scarleo can also receive emails from webadmin and can connect to Dovecot to read emails. However scarleo cannot send or receive to or from anyone outside the server from my mail client. I have restarted both Postfix and Dovecot after adding the user. Do I have to do something else to make this account work like webadmin's?
A few relevant lines from mail.log: (I've modded my real IP) Code: Dec 7 17:44:42 homer dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<scarleo>, method=PLAIN, rip=184.108.40.206, lip=192.168.0.18, TLS Dec 7 17:44:42 homer dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<webadmin>, method=PLAIN, rip=220.127.116.11, lip=192.168.0.18, TLS Dec 7 17:45:16 homer postfix/smtpd: connect from bredband.comhem.se[18.104.22.168] .....
I'm having a problem with Postfix sending email. To be more specific, Postfix sends mail perfect but when my web server running webmail (RoundCube) connects to my mail server to send email, it fails & there is nothing in the logs that explain to me why:
Code: Jan 8 11:53:02 mail dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<carlos>, method=PLAIN, rip=192.168.0.201, lip=192.168.0.200, mpid=2161, TLS Jan 8 11:53:02 mail postfix/smtpd: connect from www.iamghost.org[192.168.0.201] Jan 8 11:53:02 mail postfix/smtpd: setting up TLS connection from www.iamghost.org[192.168.0.201] Jan 8 11:53:02 mail postfix/smtpd: Anonymous TLS connection established from
I have recently installed the ISPCP web hosting control panel. It seems that after a while running and testing I can receive but I cannot send e-mail. basically I get an error which goes
postfix/smtp: connect to alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[22.214.171.124]:25: Connection timed out
I have, in the recent past, been able to send e-mail so I know that there is something that has gone wrong with my configuration, which I cannot. I post here my master.cf and my main.cf files as well as the mail.log file and the mail.warn....
I'm trying to set up my postfix server to relay mail (via a php cms) using Gmail's smtp on my account, but for some reason, Gmail returns an error code that StartTLS must be sent first, my postfix main.cnf file can be found at pastebin, because of this forum's text length I cannot paste my postfix main.cnf file as can be seen I have everything set and configured for Gmail, but postfix (for some unseen reason) can not send StartTLS. what do I need to change in postfix/ dns to send email to one one of the email server hosted by 1and1.
I'm using zenoss to monitor system/ network and devices. I wanted to setup email notification , so I installed postfix. All works fine when I use my private account on yahoo or hotmail. but when I specify email account that is hosted by 1and1 I receive error 421. "

i am trying to set up a mail server that will support users in a LAN in my school. I am using postfix on a Mandrakelinux distro.
I can send mail when I am root to the other user on my (same) machine both when in command line (mail command) and on Graphical mail client (Kmail ) but the user (sam) cannot send mail to the root account on either interfaces.
I followed the postfix configuration settings on John_Wiley_-_Redhat_Linux_Networking_and_System_Administration_3rd_Edition.
We are using postfix for relaying our internal system generated mail to other domain through google apps. All client servers able to send mail through the postfix server, only user of local postfix server(root, etc) unable to send mail with command like mutt, mail.My detail configuration given below:
I'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.
my server is Redhat as 5 + postfix +Dovecot .when i use smtp to send mailï¼it can't to send, the system return "relay access denied" ? This is my maini.cf

i have a website, there is a button that u click fill out a form and sends u a link to download a trial version of our software, the message gets sent with out html.. i copied a sample below (edited out some personal info)
I do not know why I could send email outside but not receive. I use relay to my ISP that port 25 is blocked by my ISP. What can I doing with configuration when it should be works to receive mail? Okay, I have sent a test e-mail between localhost and it works. I can send from mailserver to my gmail without problem. So why I cannot receive email from gmail?
I have a server with a domain running and im trying to resolve the mail server but i can't see where to start. I use OpenSuse 11.2. Basically, for starting, i want postfix to send incoming emails to a php script or perl. for outgoing emails i guess that i could use php mail function and i will see what else to have. I configured the dns. I do a dig.mydomain.tld MX and i get the following:
