Did this before but cannot seem to remember how I fixed it. Anything under Places drop down menu you cannot right click on and select to open so opens in movie player.

Fedora :: Gnome 3 Open File Dialog Not Talking To Browser?

Aug 25, 2011

I suspect this is a Gnome 3 problem and not a Fedora problem, but I have no way to separate the two here. I cannot upload an image from my computer to Weebly or to Google Plus, but strangely enough, I can upload one to Picasa. The sequence of actions goes something like this:

1. Open Weebly editing interface, add a picture element, click on the element to edit/add a picture. It then gives you a choice: from your local computer, from the web, etc.

2. Click on 'from local computer' and my computer opens the Open File Dialog Window.I am guessing that is its name, it is the same window you get when opening a file in any other application, like Gedit or LibreOffice.

3. Navigate to the image I want to upload and double click on it or select 'Open'.

4. Nothing happens.

I am able to upload images from my laptop, running Linux Mint 11 with Gnome 2.

It sounds to me like the Open File Window is not passing on the necessary information to the browser. I have no idea why it works in Picasa and not in Google+ or Weebly.

I don't really expect anyone to have a solution just yet, but I wanted to mention it somewhere, and I didn't see any Gnome.org forums. On the other hand, if someone does have a solution, great.

This is by no means a knock on Gnome 3, it is fine with me and I Iike it a lot more than I thought I would.

Debian :: KDE4 Clicking On A Link Never Opens A Web Browser?

Sep 13, 2010

I could use some input. I have just recently installed Squeeze and KDE4 as I had hoped that the kinks had been worked out. Anyway, here is the situation: If I click on a link in kmail or kopete (haven't tried other apps yet) the default web browser never opens. Okay, can deal with that but instead what happens is my screen is filled with notifications literally by the hundreds, that konqueror is being started. No window ever opens but the task-bar is then filled with tabs for konqueror. I could not get this to stop and had to kill X (as my settings are to save the state of running apps when logging off. Thus if I just log off over 100 instances of konqueror will be saved and restarted when I log back in). Some things that may be relevant: The box has a 2.3GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. According to mem there is only 12MB of free physical RAM when the system has been booted and logged into. Other things still work, other applications still start and close although be it slowly. Once X restarts and I log back in, if I manually run konqueror it starts but with an error message that a previous session has crashed and would I like to restore that session. I tell it no as I don't want the whole thing starting over. I can drag and drop links in to konqueror and things work as expected. Starting konqueror from a terminal works fine as does using the run box and any link directly to the program. I am not sure how to simulate me clicking on a link to have the program run from a terminal so I can look for error messages. I have tried to search the web for info but I have recieved absolutely ZERO useful hits in nearly 10 pages. If this is not due to my system running out of resources I am thinking it is a bug I need to report. However, at the moment, I have described to you all things the best I could and I doubt with out something more it won't do much good to report it as my other Squeeze installs on an 800MHz system with only 512MB of RAM don't have this problem even though they run slower than molasses in January left outside in Alaska.

In the mean time I have made it so the system messages don't keep filling my screen by disabling the pop-up notifications. This hasn't changed the fact that hundreds of instances of konqueror are trying to be opened though when I forget to first open konqueror and then drag a link into it. At the moment, this is a completely stock install using only the first DVD that is only a week old. Here is the DVD info: "Official Snapshot i386 DVD Binary-1 20100823-05:10"

Programming :: Programmatically Getting Standard File Dialog

Jul 14, 2010

Is it possible to do the following in C/C++ in Linux:Without direct linking (my program should NOT depend on Qt or GTK), display a GTK or Qt based file dialog. The behaviour should be something like this when my program runs, when you want to open a file:The program scans whether you have Qt installed. If so, it somehow manages to link itself to Qt (e.g. dynamically loading the .so file) and display its file dialog and get the path from it. If Qt wasn't found, it tries the same with GTK. If that also wasn't found, it displays a less powerful replacement dialog instead (better than nothing).

Or is there any other simple way in Linux to get a standard file dialog somehow (similar to when compiling for Windows you can very easily get its standard file dialog, no matter what version of Windows, in your code, even if your program doesn't use any other Windows GUI at all).

I know the existence of download managers like d4x, wget, jdownloader, etc... but some downloads can only be done by browser. I know trickle too but if I want to change the speed limit I have to 'restart' the command (interrupting the current download). Then I didn't find an extension for Chromium.

Fedora :: 12 Browser Download Slower Than XP

Apr 28, 2010

I have a dual boot machine with Fedora 12 and XP SP2.

Recently I tested download performance using www.speedtest.net. Using seamonkey on XP, i got 22 Mbps on my Comcast ISP. Not bad! However I then tried the same test on Fedora 12 with F12 seamonkey and got 16 Mbps. Thinking it must just be seamonkey, I tried the F12 Firefox and got 12 Mbps

This seems like a pretty big difference. I checked around on google and found several threads decying slower mozilla performance on Linux. I tried the suggestions to turn off ipv6 support, but there was not much improvement.

Ubuntu :: Gnumeric Argues \ Opened It And Then Get A Dialog Warning Me The File Already Exists?

Dec 22, 2010

Whenever I edit a spreadsheet in Gnumeric, I have to have an argument about saving the edited version. First, it says it wants to save it in Gnumeric's XML format instead of whatever format I opened it in, and then I get a dialog warning me the file already exists,is it OK to overwrite it? All my spreadsheets are either .odt or .csv. I just want to be able to open, edit and save without an argument every time. It's like telling a child that it's bed time and having the same argument every night, and it's getting on my nerves. Is there a setting where I can get gnumeric to obediently save the edited version, or do I just have to put up with the slower opening times of LibreOffice instead?

Ubuntu Servers :: Browser Tries To Download PHP Files In User Directory?

Mar 29, 2011

I was having trouble getting php files to display properly on my ubuntu 10.10 LAMP setup. Everything was installed with defaults and working properly. testphp.php worked as long as it was in the sites parent directory, but any php files in user directories did not work. All browsers tried to download the php files located in /home/user/public_html instead. I tried to use the help documents here, [URL]..

Finally I was browsing around in the /etc/apache2/mods-available directory and looked at the php5.conf file. Here is the relevant information from the file:

Code:

# To re-enable php in user directories comment the following lines
# (from <IfModule ...> to </IfModule>.) Do NOT set it to On as it
# prevents .htaccess files from disabling it.
# <IfModule mod_userdir.c> #Comment out this line

[Code]...

I tried to edit the help document linked above but it says not to do so! I couldn't find a reference for this fix anywhere else, so I decided to post it here.
