Ubuntu :: No Desktop Files Or Right Click On Desktop?

May 7, 2011

I was just playing around with the Unity plugin (adjusting opacity) and now the files on my desktop aren't there (yes i know that those files are in the desktop folder) but they don't show on the desktop. also, when I right click on the desktop, nothing happens. it all changed when I played with the Unity plugin by adjusting opacity... I really liked having files on my desktop and being able to change my background by right clicking...

General :: KDE Stop Virtual Desktop Changing When Click On The Desktop?

Sep 18, 2011

I'm new to KDE and am running KDE 4.7.1 on top of Arch Linux. It's fantastic however I have one problem - virtual desktops. Yeah I know there are those "activities" things which people say replace virtual desktops and I will look into them, but for the moment I want to stick with what I know.

And it's almost set up too. In fact, it is, apart from one issue: Say I'm on desktop 3 and I click on the desktop (as in - the bit with my wallpaper, etc, not the little square in my panel) - it immediately switches to desktop 1. Got no idea why I'd want it to do that and it's bugging me.

Ubuntu :: Desktop Showing Files That Are Not In The Desktop Dir

May 20, 2010

I accidentally deleted a system directory so I had to reinstall. I reinstalled, and setup my users again in the same way. When I tried to copy my user files from a saved source, they now appear on the desktop in mass. What I expect is that only files in the Desktop directory show on the desktop, instead all files in the home directory show on the desktop, less the dot files. I can not figure out how the system controls what files show up on the desktop. Comparing the problem user to a working user failed to disclose the difference.

Hi, here's hoping you can help me with this minor annoyance. If I right-click on the desktop I get no menu. I recently installed Zorin, a form of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. In the course of 'setting up' my install, I lost this ability and, having made so many changes so rapidly, it's nigh on impossible to figure out what I did that broke my right-click.

I upgrade my Kubuntu to 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and I lost taskbar. Besides, I can't right-click on desktop. In fact I can, but nothing happens. Is that some Plasma problem? I red that Kicker is replaced by some Plasma feature. Could it be because of Conky (some desktop layouts)? I tried to prevent it, but I can't. I killed all Conky instances, and removed it from .kde/Autostart, but it still runs on every start-up.

Ubuntu :: Right Click GONE When 'Hide Desktop' Activated / What To Do?

May 3, 2011

I've been into Linux since about 6 months, & I love it. Thanks to everyone....

Anyway, Due to the bad habit of windows habits, I've many Desktop Icons on my Desktop.
I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO HIDE THEM. I know both the ways for hiding them...

BUT, the problem is, whenever I hide Icons, the desktop RIGHT CLICK DROP-DOWN MENU goes too!! There's no right click menu then.
But as soon as I activate SHOW DESKTOP ICONS, the menu comes back... Pretty obvious why. But how can I prevent it???

SO, my dear fellows, please enlighten me. WHAT SHOULD/CAN I DO?

Ubuntu :: Unable To Click Windows On Different Planes Of The Desktop

Jan 22, 2011

know how to explain this, but I'll try to the best I can. I installed from wubi, so I don't know if that matters, but here goes.

When I'm using ubuntu, I'm unable to click on any windows/elements outside of my current window, or use the close/minimize/maximize buttons. For example right now, in firefox, I am unable to use either of the taskbars or minimize the window. I can't click any of the icons on the desktop or anything, either, and if a page triggers a popup, I can't do anything with it. The thing is, though, interestingly, unplugging and replugging my USB mouse fixes it until I click on something again. I have no clue if it's a driver issue, a hardware issue (my mouse works fine on windows, though), or just a misconfiguration in the OS somewhere.

OpenSUSE :: Editing The Desktop's Right Click Menu?

Mar 20, 2011

First things first, I've just moved from Ubuntu with Gnome to openSuse with KDE. So I'm lost as doing some things in this environment. However, I'm loving what I'm seeing with suse/kde combo. I'm planning on making an extensive right-click menu to categorize all my applications. Basically I want to have the "start" menu available to me when I right-click. I've google casually for a couple days and haven't found much that helps, but I think its because I'm not using the correct keywords seeing as I'm new to this environment.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a [Desktop Entry], but I'm not sure how to handle hierarchy and stuff like that.

For now I have a monitor on that machine, but in the future it's gonna be only the box, without any periferal devices. When I try to log in via UltraVNC from Windows XP, on Ubuntu server a little window pops up, asking me to allow or refuse this "invader", so I click Allow and I really have full control on that machine. However, when I dont have any devices I wouldnt be able to click this Allow button, but will have to have full control. So, my question is how to autoclick this Allow button? Or when I try to log in the ubuntu machine, it would automatically give me full control?
