Ubuntu :: Doesn't Recognize Myvideo Card ATI Radeon X1200

May 30, 2010

I have an Acer Aspire 5516 and have been running ubuntu for a while. I couldn't resist the upgrade notice to 10.04 so I did it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to recognize my video card ATI Radeon X1200 and I have to boot in safe graphics mode. I can use my computer but the display is a bit off. I have tried to install the ATI driver but get the following:

ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager
Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version
default:v2: x86_64:lib32::none:2.6.31-14-generic; make sure that the version is being
correctly set by --iscurrentdistro
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.eqUOxU

Ubuntu Installation :: 8.04 Vs 9.10 - ATI Radeon 9000 Graphics Card Doesn't Recognize

Jan 20, 2010

I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Graphics card that Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't seem to recognize no matter what I do. Knowing that its an older card and that ATI stopped support for it a while ago, I was wondering if anyone knows if I would have better luck on Ubuntu 8.04. I can't get 3d or opengl to work, or install the correct ATI Driver.

Ubuntu :: Can't Find Drivers For The ATI Radeon X1200?

Oct 13, 2010

My laptop currently is : [url]

Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding proper driver support for the ATI radeon x1200 as described by another poster:

You should still be able to get full 3D support for your hardware by downloading & installing the drivers manually.

This is where it gets complicated, unfortunately.

ATI dropped support for some "older" 3D devices some time back (actually not all that old in many cases - it made a lot of ATI card owners very upset). So I'm not sure which drivers you'd need to download & install to get your 3D hardware working.

The Radeon x1200 device in your notebook is, confusingly, not the same as a desktop Radeon x1200 card.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Radeon X1200 HDMI Audio?

Apr 5, 2010

I want my computer to be used as a DVD/BD player, and as of recently it has rejected its windows install and refuses to reinstall. Ubuntu 9.10 installed without problem, but when I select the X1200 (hdmi) audio output via the top right icon no sound comes out. I've searched this topic and one theory was that if i ran ALSA mixer the x1200 audio might be muted by default; it was not muted. I've also been told to update my catalyst, but using synaptics packet manager to download the catalyst control center, when I run it I get the message no supported hardware found. Is there any way to get this to work, or am I stuck with my speakers/3.5mm jack?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Drivers ATI Radeon X1200?

Feb 6, 2011

I am trying to install video drivers for the ATI radeon x1200 card on my laptop.

1. Download and install from AMD catalyst = fail. keep getting error 454 Bad Substitution.

2. Try "Additional Drivers" = nothing here.

3. Try "Synaptic Package Manager" search "fglrx" find one that looks right, let it install dependencies = fail. (maybe this is where I should be?)

4. Try this guide, however its a bit outdated. Get stuck on the repositories .deb files.

Hardware :: Karmic Doesn't Recognize Graphics Card

I have recently installed Karmic to a portable hard drive (WD elements 500gb) so that when it is plugged in the grub can boot and i can go into ubuntu 9.10 and when it is out windows 7/vista dual boot screen shows. When in ubuntu, there is no driver for my 'NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS' graphics card available so i am stuck with the no effects mode and the games are poor.

Previously i had this same setup (but with jaunty) and the graphics card worked well, i could have all the wobbly window effects etc, but now i can't have anything. How could i get a driver for this?BTW, it is running through USB 2.0, although it is very fast.

OpenSUSE Network :: System Doesn't Recognize Video Card

Mar 26, 2010

So the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Radeon Card Not Performing Well?

May 12, 2011

I have a Radeon HD 5830 card and it just doesn't seem to be working to it's full potential. I've tried TF2 and SC2 through the latest stable release of Wine, but the frame rates are horrible.

Also, when I run fgl_glxgears, I only get 800fps. (If I reboot the computer and run fgl_glxgears as soon as I log in, I get at least 3000fps for a few seconds. Then it's back to 800)

I've tried reinstalling the driver several times.

Why is the performance so low?

Here's my setup:
XFX Radeon 5830
Ubuntu 11.04 (fresh install and updated)
11.5 ATI driver from AMD's site. Here is fglrxinfo output:

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting To Recognize Wireless Card?

Jan 7, 2010

Moving this to new topic, since it's no longer under wireless connectivity issues. [Noob Warning] I was having trouble getting Ubuntu to recognize my wireless card, as I have changed from the 3965 that came in my computer to the 4965, which added increased range and G band. Anyway, I read one of the threads on here, and this was the advice given:
