Debian Configuration :: Connect To Internet Through Wireless Card?

Jun 9, 2010

I am currently trying to connect to internet through my wireless card, after half day's effort I reached to this point:

/******The following error appears in the dmesg kernel ring buffer output:
ipw2200: ipw2200-bss.fw load failed: Reason -2
ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: -2
ipw2200: failed to register network device
ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:03.0 failed with error -5*********/

I found a solution from Intel website saying that the problem might be: "firmware in wrong location or wrong firmware version". So I proceeded to download the firmware and placed it in /lib/firmware. Also I tried to use menuconfig to enable loading firmware via hot-plug, but I think I have done something wrong when I was configuring the hotplug and firmware.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet: Dell 1397 Wireless Card

Feb 25, 2010

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:

Code: 09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 13) 0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) In Windows 7, everything is just fine. In Ubuntu, my wired connection works like a charm, but is not really accessible. Basically, I have to connect to wireless in Ubuntu or I have no reason for having it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Sharing - Unable To Connect To The Internet If The On-board Card Is Connected To "ubuntuadhoc"

Mar 22, 2011

Heres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.

This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.

Fedora Networking :: 14 Can't Connect To SpeedTouch 585 - Either Wireless Broadcom Card Or The Wired Ethernet Card

Dec 4, 2010

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Card - WEP Encryption For Wireless Router Not Allow Me To Connect

May 5, 2011

wlan0 Authentication capabilities :

WPA
WPA2
CIPHER-TKIP
CIPHER-CCMP

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.

Ubuntu Networking :: Tenda W322P Wireless Card Crashing Wireless Router On Connect

Jun 30, 2011

I installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.

Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Sees Wireless Card / Connect To Net But No Communication

I have just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a new computer which also has Windows XP installed. This computer is connected to the internet via a USB Zonet ZEW2590 802.11N wireless card with the Ralink RT3070 chipset. Ubuntu sees the wireless card and it connected to my wireless router without any problems. When I look at the connection information it says the wireless card is connected at 24mb/s and one time it said it was connected at 54mb/s. The problem is that when I go into Firefox and type in a url (such as www.yahoo.com) I see a message at the bottom of the screen saying "Looking Up Yahoo and then it does nothing for several minutes. Then I get a pop-up box that says "Server Not Found".

Ubuntu :: Can't Connect To Internet Using Wireless On 10.10 Despite?

Dec 26, 2010

I was instructed to repost this question here; so, here it is. I tried to post the previous thread below. I would like some help setting up using a wireless connection. I can connect using wired connection, and I have no trouble browsing. I have a strong wireless connection as well; however, when I try to browse I get a server not found error.

I have done a lot of research but I don't know if any answers really matched my situation.I did download the necessary drivers. Before that, I didn't have a wireless connection. I was able to connect on this pc before the install, and all other devices still connect using wireless. I have a linksys router. The one thing that stands out at me is the ip address that it says the wireless connection is using. It says it is 10.42.43.1 I feel like that might be problematic because I'm pretty sure my router only accepts connections with values that are between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.200.

[Code]...

It is already set to wpa2 and aes. There is no option for ccmp; so, I can't select that. I don't have tkip selected, and the is no field labeled psk, but I am guessing that the field I entered the password in is the same thing.

Ubuntu Networking :: Atheros Wireless Card Can See Networks But Can't Connect

May 30, 2010

I've installed it no problems on my desktop and I really love it. Now I'm trying to install it on my Satellite and I'm having a couple of problems. When trying to connect to my wireless network, I can see my network, but it will just keep asking me for my WEP. I've confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the network or the password I've provided. Sometimes when I boot up, the network manager just says that the wireless networks are disconnected and can't find any. The wired connection always works just fine.

Here are the system specs:

Toshiba Satellite M45 S169
Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS Fresh Install

Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01)
Kernel driver in use: ath5k

Ubuntu :: Gedit / Can't Connect To Wireless Internet

Oct 20, 2010

so after having my Ubuntu 9.04 get all messed up (my fault) really and being to lazy to figure out how to fix my screw-up and figuring I didn't have anything worth saveing that couldn't be easily backed up, I installed karmic on my Lenovo 3000 N100. The problem is that I can't connect to wireless internet which isn't really a problem since I had the same problem when I installed Karmic on my friend's computer, all I need to do is change the file in /etc/modprobe titled blacklist-ath_pci.conf, the only problem is when I open the file with Gedit and change the line to #blacklist ath_pci (to disable the blacklisting) I can't save it, if I try to quit then save as and replace the file I am told "you do not have permission to save the file. please check the location and try again"

I know I'm in an admin user account and the preferences for the account are all enabled so have the authority to change the file, if I remember correctly to edit system files you have to go about it a different way then just opening them up and editing them, but it's been so long I just can't remember.
