The new 11.04 has Banshee in the sound adjustment icon... even if it was uninstalled. Is there any way to go back to having rhythmbox controller in the sound applet?

I managed to delete the Volume Applet that appears by default on the task bar. I'm sure it used to be listed in 'Add to Panel' in other version of Ubuntu however I can't see it there in 10.04.
Can someone explain to me how I get it back?
I started using Banshee. Having Rhythmbox always in the sound menu is redundant. Is it possible to remove it from there? I would like to keep the applet, not the Rhythbox launcher/controller.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is some ind of way of removing the rhythmbox link in the volume menu in the indicator applet..It's just that I hardly use it and it's pretty annoying and redundant as well having it there. I don't want to get rid of the volume menu completely nor of rhythmbox. I just want the link gone from there. Actually it never was there until I decided to open it once. After that day, it wouldn't go, no matter how I would exit the program. I didn't have this problem in 10.04. It's just in 10.10.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLucid has this (opinion: stupid) notification applet in the top right that contains links and notifications for the default evolution etc setup. I do not want that applet and would prefer to run what I want via alltray. The problem is that removing the notification applet removes the sound applet! Firstly, how do I "unmarry" the two? secondly, who could have possibly thought that was a good idea? Ubuntu has been great, but c'mon! Why is a default email program married to the sound applet!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a machine running Ubuntu 10.04 and I accidentally removed the Rhythmbox icon in the notification area by right clicking it and I think I must have selected remove or something.
The problem is I cannot seem to get it back and it is enabled under the Plugins section of Rhythmbox.
I was trying to get suspend and hibernate on my shutdown menu and I removed it from the panel with the intention of adding it back, hopefully with the suspend and hibernate choices on it.
How do I get the shutdown menu back on the panel?
If I don';t get it back then how do I shut down?

I just came from the library and was unable to connect to their wi-fi because the computer wasn't trying to detect it. View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday while trying (unsuccessfully) to get a new Bluetooth dongle set up I lost the network manager applet. When I rebooted, after giving up on Bluetooth in Ubuntu, I had no way of connecting to my wireless network. In command line (iwconfig & iwlist scan) I was able to see the wireless router. So the wireless card is working correctly. How do I reinstall the network manager applet? Oh even when use a wired connection to the router there is no connection.

I accidentally clicked yes not realizing what it was, and now ubuntu does not list the windows open on a workspace at the bottom of the screen - terribly annoying! how to get this back? I can't really do anything with the speaker as it is hidden in the case.
I installed Mangler and one of its requirements was pulse-audio. I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. (lol) My Sound card is according to sound configuration SBx00 Azalia(Intel HDA) - Driver snd-hda-intel.Opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new to Linux and ran into a problem with no sound after a fresh install of Debian 6.0.
Here is what I get from my I/Os. (yes speakers are on, plugged in and all volume controls have been toggled and tweaked in every which way.)

For some reason, Rhythmbox will show itself playing a song (the notification in the top right corner) but I hear no sound. I can go to the application itself and see the play slider moving. I can't pause it or anything. if it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself. If I browse to the directory, and right click > Open with Rhythmbox, it works perfectly (although I still can't pause it)
Also, if I jump to another song, and then play the song it was playing silently, it works. Not sure why it does this.
I doubt it's the files themselves because I've been downloading all my songs from one site, and never had an issue in iTunes on a windows PC. It only does this to about 3 songs out of 164. It used to do this to only 2, but now it's doing it to 3 since the past few days when adding more songs.
I have accidently removed the sound icon along with the rhythmbox controller from my panel. Could someone tell me how to get it back please?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm a fairly new Ununtu user who has just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One D260, to get rid of my virus-ridden Windows and have mostly been happy with the results so far.
After a little experimentation, I decided that I preferred xfce over gnome and KDE as my window manager, but have encountered a little problem (actually it's a medium size problem) I don't get any sound from Rhythmbox It worked before perfectly with gnome but since I installed xfce, big silence when I try to play music.
Other applicatons such as Firefox and VLC produce sound perfectly, but when I try to play music in Rhythmbox, nothing comes out of the speakers. It appears to be playing normally with the progress bar moving normally.
I'm willing to use another music player if necessary but rhythmbox seems to be the most recommended one for linux and I liked it when it worked with gnome.
i accidentally deleted the shortcut for rhythmbox from sound & video.and cant restore it i don't know where the location and etc is.i tried uninstalling it properly from the software centre and synaptic manager and reinstalling it didnt restore the shortcuts.

I don't really use Rhythmbox to play music so I leave it on mute, butI do use it to manage my iPod and it not closing has caused me nothing but problems. I've looked and looked and cannot find a way to turn it off. Is there any solution to this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday I decided to remove pulse (mainly because Skype was unable to work with it) but suddenly the sound icon is gone. After some searching on the net I understood that it was part of pulseaudio, but now I feel a bit lost. Alsa works like a charm instead, but since I also want to use ubuntu to record sound I'm not sure if it will work, and also I have a sound source for my HDMI interface and don't know how switch if I want to.

Basically i want it so that the analogue stick on my PS2 controller, which connects via a USB adaptor and is recognized, correctly controls in game characters. It seems to work fine enough in platformers, at least it does with Banjo Kazooie, but with games like perfect Dark it seem to be trying to move forward and look down at the same time, also backward and look up simultaneously and look sideways and move sideways simultaneously , rendering the game all but unplayable.
I have tried running jscal and, apart from the fact that it seems a bit beyond me, it reports "jscal: missing devicename" when i try to run "jscal -c". Do others out there have there analogue sticks working correctly with games like Perfect Dark, or the James Bond games, for example?
I have some seemingly interrelated issues with music CDs that I can't find threads about. Music CDs don't mount, they just spin for a bit then sit there. While a music CD is in the tray, sound juicer (Audio CD extractor) dies with a Segmentation fault. Rhythmbox dies too with this fault:

This only happens while a music CD is in the tray. All other times, the programs run fine.
Whenever I start rhythmbox, it starts scanning my external HDD for sound files. There are 450,000+ sound files at least, and it won't import my music collection while it's doing this. Is there a way to stop this? Disconnecting or hiding the drive isn't an option as my music collection is in a folder on that drive, and there isn't enough space on my local HDD to store it.

Every time I open "sound preferences" from either the sound applet or the preferences menu pulseaudio CPU usage goes right up to 100% and proceeds to lock up the entire computer. pavucontrol, paman, and all the other pulseaudio utils work fine, except for ubuntu's sound preferences. It affects a new account.This is my 10.04 desktop that is affected. I have just the default pulseaudio config.
