Evolution is presenting many incoming email messages as double-spaced when they weren't written that way. The unwanted double-spacing is also retained in replies, which show the original messages as having repeated carriage returns.How can this be prevented so that Evolution renders the messages as they were written?

Within the last few days, Evolution barely opens, and every message has a duplicate message. The duplicate shows as unread, whether I read the original message or not. All duplicates occur only for messages received prior to Wednesday late PM (about four days ago). My in-box was already large, and the program now takes forever to open. In its attempt to get all the messages, it shows:

Fetching mail (...)
Generating message list (...)
Storing folder (...)

I've watched the system monitor, and I'm open to suggestions if looking for something specific could help. When I first attempt to open the program, it grabs a substantial portion of the CPU as status "running" or "uninterruptible." If I let it grind away for a while (15 or more minutes), the program opens, and has the double entries and continues to labor to get the new e-mail. In the most recent try, the program opens, and eventually is able to get mail.

This recent problem MIGHT be related to traveling, when I switched to working off-line for a while, and was usually hibernating the machine in between uses, rather than shutting down. Also, I resorted to checking mail via a web mail program at one point.

Could I have hit the wrong option about synchronizing folders? Default is "do not synchronize." When off-line, I only want to read and answer messages from the inbox, and have them sent from the outbox when I again have access. What is the proper way to do this? I don't have any messages in folders except a few draft e-mails.

I'm running Evolution 2.26 on Jaunty. What did I do wrong, and how do I fix it! PS: Is there a more specific forum for Evolution?

My laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.

Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.

As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.

Running Ubuntu 9.04 here and having some frequent problems in the terminal. The characters have "smooshed" together so some strings are unreadable. This happened randomly when I opened terminal and has been happening ever since. I don't know what the problem is.

It is mentioned in bugs and other posts, but they are old and don't provide an answer. On my small screen, the extra horizontal spacing/padding between the icons in the notification area takes up far, far too much space.Is there a way to reduce the spacing/padding. Preferably, I would put it back to what it was in Karmic which I think was about half the current spacing/padding.

I tried to summarize the this as best as possible in the title. I am writing an initial value problem solver in the most general way possible. I start with an arbitrary number of initial values at arbitrary locations (inside a boundary.) The first part of my program creates a mesh/grid (I am not sure which is the correct nuance), with N points total, that contains all the initial values. My goal is to optimize the mesh such that the spacing is as uniform as possible. My solver seems to work half decently (it needs some more obscure debugging that is not relevant here.)

I am starting with one dimension. I intend to generalize the algorithm to an arbitrary number of dimensions once I get it working consistently. I am writing my code in fortran, but feel free to reply with pseudocode or the language of your choice.Allow me to elaborate with an example:Say I am working on a closed interval [1,10]

xmin=1
xmax=10

Say I have 3 initial points: xmin, 5 and xmax

num_ivc=3
known(num_ivc)=[xmin,5,xmax] //my arrays start at 1. Assume "known" starts sorted

I store my mesh/grid points in an array called coord. Say I want 10 points total in my mesh/grid.

Remember, all this is arbitrary--except the variable names of course. The algorithm should set coord to {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10} Now for a less trivial example:

num_ivc=3
known(num_ivc)=[xmin,5.5,xmax
or just
num_ivc=1
known(num_ivc)=[5.5]

Now, would you have 5 evenly spaced points on the interval [1, 5.5] and 5 evenly spaced points on the interval (5.5, 10]? But there is more space between 1 and 5.5 than between 5.5 and 10. So would you have 6 points on [1, 5.5] followed by 4 on (5.5 to 10]. The key is to minimize the difference in spacing.I have been working on this for 2 days straight and I can assure you it is a lot trickier than it sounds. I have written code that

only works if N is large
only works if N is small
only works if it the known points are close together

So as you can see, I have coded the gamut of almost-solutions. I cannot figure out a way to get it to perform equally well in all possible scenarios (that is, create the optimum spacing.)

URl...how wide are the spaces between these entries. A quick research shows that this affects only certain apps such as gnome-terminal or Anjuta, but doesn't affect for example Synaptic - my first thought was that it's related to these using GTK3, but now I can see it's not that. This is not theme-related as it appears no matter what theme I choose. No results by googling.

I have Ubuntu 10.10 and Open Office 3.2.1. I guess that this problem may affect Libre Office too, but I will be happy to be proved wrong about that. I am editing a document that was originally produced in Microsoft Word (the standard .doc format). It is a form produced by a national organisation and it has to be sent back to them, and when submitted it has to be no longer than two A4 pages. It contains a series of headings and (expanding) text boxes for content.

In order to be sure about the length, I did most of the editing with Microsoft Word on my wife's laptop. On that machine, and on a PC that has a different version of Word, the document fits exactly within the two-page limit. But on my laptop, using Open Office, it appears considerably longer, taking up two-and-a-half pages. Why is this, and can anything be done to correct it? Open Office appears to be using the same fonts as Microsoft Word - the font names are the same, anyway - and the font sizes are the same, yet the text appears to take up more of the page display.

In bash I need to use some equivalent of double quotes inside double quotes (or the other way around.)I need to run the following statement to get the output of foo and store it in a variable while passing foo the $file which probably contains spaces.

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.

It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution

Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

Because the exchange plugin didn't work i uninstalled evolution and removed the ppa. Now when i try to install evolution from the software centre i get this: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.
it asks me if I want to repair the catalog, i say yes.

When i log into to a non root(user) mode, i am always greeted by a small terminal window before the desktop starts up. Also, after desktop starts a new window opens which displays the contents of my windows desktop.

Lucid was working okay for a few weeks. I believe this issue came up anew in the past few days after a recent system update. The (desktop) system when idle for x amount of time (likely > 1 hour) just shuts down while I am off doing something else. That is bad when downloading a large file that has to be started from scratch again (826 Mb of an 875 Mb file).

I have had to revert back to Hardy (kept in a separate partition) in order to get these wanted downloads. But I do a lot of downloading of film files, so this will be an ongoing issue until I can somehow correct it. I went through the screen-saver options/power management settings, found nothing unusual there, though I am not real certain of all the terminology there.

OpenSUSE :: Restoring Evolution 2.32.1.2 Settings Into Evolution 2.30

I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.

An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.

I'm new to Ubuntu so bear with me. I installed 9.10 from a CD and it looks fine and works OK wired. However, my wireless keeps picking up a connection at home via my Linksys router that is not mine and I can't get around it, blacklist it or delete it. No matter what I do it keeps showing back up as an AutoConnection. It is the same type of router as mine but the security is different (I use WPA-Personal and the offender is WEP). How can I permanently blockdisableetc the extra connection? I can't get on my home network until the bad autoconnection is gone. More info: I use an IBM R40 into which I installed a Toshiba mini-PC wireless card. I know it works as I have used it to connect to other wireless networks other than my own. I prefer to leave my router configured as it is due to other users at home and the configs I use for them. I read about WICD if that is a possibility, but actually connecting wirelessly is not the issue.
