I am having some problems uninstalling wubi. Its not in the uninstall programs or coming up and a boot option when i boot my computer anymore. So i went out and downloaded the newest version, and tried to install it. Cause i thought that it had been removed maybe by anti-virus or something. When i clicked on it to install it said i had a previous version that i had to uninstall. So i clicked OK. It started to uninstall and then i got an error message. I tried it again and got the some error message.
I am having a strange problem whenever I copy something from a webpage I see content more than required copied and I then have to manually go and delete all the content. This has been quite frustrating. I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop. What should I check?
I am facing an amazing problem with GCC compiler. When I copy any C code from any documents or texts and paste at gedit and try to compile it with using GCC compiler, it gives error. But when I typed the same code, it executes.
just installed ubuntu couple of days back on my netbook. I am still a beginner, enjoying my adventure exploring ubuntu. I have another desktop which runs on XP. I am able to access XP shared folders through my netbook(linux). However, i wanted to copy files from XP infact folders using TERMINAL in my netbook, not copy and paste using my mouse. Are there any commands for it?
I tried to install last Ubuntu distribution (11.04) in a laptop that fits setup requirements. I downloaded de Iso, burnt on cd and restart the laptop with the cd inside it.The hard disk does not have any partition, it's empty, I suppose installation gives that opcion. At the begining of the installation, before any interactivity, I get this error:
Code: Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher self.dispatch_command(args, args[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 657, in dispatch_command self.update_packages(only_trusted, package_ids) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1948, in update_packages signed = self._is_package_repo_signed(pkg) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1437, in _is_package_repo_signed repo = self.yumbase.repos.getRepo(pkg.repoid) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/repos.py, line 121, in getRepo 'Error getting repository data for $s, repository not found' $ (repoid) I cant update my system what can I do?

I just installed Fedora 12 and while I was trying to install Skype, there was a system crash and since then I cannot install any other software or cannot even access 'add/remove software'. Whenever I try to install a software or try to open the 'add/remove software' or, 'Software Updates' I get the message 'An internal system error has occured'. and inside it contains this-
Code: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py", line 2956, in __init__ self.repos.confirm_func = self._repo_gpg_confirm File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 717, in <lambda> repos = property(fget=lambda self: self._getRepos(), File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 496, in _getRepos self.conf # touch the config class first .....
I tried these using the terminal- yum clean all yum metadata sudo yum clean all yum clean metadata and all of these gave me the same result-
Code: Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Config Error: File contains no section headers. file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/skype.repo, line: 1 "su -c 'yum -y install skype' " Everything else is working fine, but I just can not install or update any more software.
I switched from Ubuntu to Fedora and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding why I cannot update my system. Fedora seems to be a little bit more complicated than Ubuntu to update and to do other things... I'm still willing to try it because it has a good reputation and good reviews so I will go ahead and give it a shot but before I do that I need to update it. I have an HP pavilion notebook dv2000. Just installed Fedora 15 and my system is telling me that I have over 700 updates! when I click on install updates I get an error:
Transaction error An unspecified transaction error has occurred. More information is available on the detailed report. Then on the details this is what I get:
Started slackpkg upgrade-up and went to bed. Woke up to find the power had gone out during the night. The computer booted up, but displayed a message that said something to the effect of, "Error occurred during root file system check. You will be given the option of doing maintenance......"I can get to a command prompt, but regardless of what I do a message pops saying it can't find libblkid.so.1
Code: Mounting local filesystems: WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/. ... Starting system message bus: [FAILED]
You have to define PLUGINS in /etc/sysconfig/sipwitch before running sipwitch Then the system froze there. Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 can enter command line mode.
I have two graphic cards on my laptop, one is Intel and the other is Nvidia. There seems to be something wrong with the Intel card and I changed into the Nvidia card to boot. Then the errors occurred. The driver of the Nvidia card has not been installed. How can I start my network in command line mode? I cannot enter graphic mode now.
System was fine with :Ubuntu 9.04 (had also installed kde )then....I wanted to try some change to gdm so i downloaded gdm while building it , it asked "PAM" libraries to be installed so i installed PAM ... but ignored the instruction to reinstall SHADOW (library i guess..),Now :on booting system i get login menu but i am not able to login , it says some critical error occured
1) install new copy of UBUNTU and remove old
ps :1) i can log into system through live cd
2) i can use recovery mode boot and log into terminal as root(startx is not working from this terminal..
Anyone know why, my copy & paste in the terminal doesn't work....it's there, just not highlighted, I need to install Sun Java and can copy the command lines from the forum I just can't paste them into the terminal. Also is there a way to check that my Ubuntu download to my USB stick is error free?
I was finally able to successfully install debian Squeeze on my Netra X1. Upon bootup, however, I get a scrolling message saying:[ 206.790092] eth0: (71) System Error occurred (2)Not really sure what this is about. I never received this when I had it running Solaris or FreeBSD or even Ubuntu's older SPARC versions.I also know that it's unlikely to be a bad ethernet card, since Debian was network-installed, and I never came across this error before.
Fedora 15 software update "unspecified transaction error occurred" at system info before installing updated list. After unchecking every (no arch) update, all the rest (i686) were installed. now all (no arch)updates remain on the list to be installed.
I can't Copy, paste, select all, or find with my keyboard... pretty much all the commands that involve the Control key don't work. in firefox... the edit> copy, paste , etc commands are actually grayed out too.
I can't copy & paste text from an Evolution email message without first pasting the text into an editor like gedit or a word processor and recopying it a second time... Then it works fine... I thought the problem may have been a Delphi forum specific problem, but it also does the same thing on this board...
I running 10.04 with the default Evolution mail program.
BTW on Delphi I can turn off the wysiwyg editor and paste as "source" and it works just fine without the paste and recopy step...
I am experiencing an issue where the first time I copy and paste it works fine. But after that it just pastes garble. I've installed glipper and if I clear the clipboard after every copy/paste its fine.
At first I upgraded from 10.04 and this came up so I thought I would just do a clean install of 10.10. It was still happening.
In Ubuntu, why does copy and past not work for most applications. I can't tell you how many times I have copied some text and went to a new application and Past is greyed out. For example, in Firefox I can highlight some text like "Belmont Diner", then right click and choose "Copy". Then go up to the Google search bar and right click and Paste is not an option. I have tried doing this using Crtl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste. It does not work...most of the time. Every once in a while it will but most of the time it does not. I can repeat the action to make sure I really copied the data and still no luck. Sometimes it works but many times it does not.
